  1. I'm looking for a good animal cracker substitute for my daughter...something that tastes similar to Barnum's (Nabisco) animal crackers. Any suggestions??
  2. Thanks...I'll have to try the tortillas. Would the rice almond bread be good for grilled cheese for my DD, or does the almond flavor make it more of a breakfast bread? Thanks again!
  3. Our local Safeway/Genuardi's carries Food for Life bread products. How are they? Anything you recommend? Thank you!
  4. Just wondering what brands you enjoy: -Pudding (either pre-made or mix) -Salsa (the Hormel website isn't clear if Chi-Chi's is gluten-free, so looking to see what some of you use) -Hot dogs (I tried to call about Ball Park regular and lite, but they're closed on the weekend) -Soy sauce Thank you!
  5. I have applesauce snack cups in our pantry, but I had taken them out of the original cardboard packaging with the ingredients a while back. A few are Musselman's and I'm not sure of the other brand. Do applesauce cups ever have additives that contain gluten, or should I assume (i know, never a good thing) that they're gluten free. Thanks!
  6. Once you verify with a company that a particular product is gluten free, are you ok to assume it remains gluten free unless the ingredients on the label change? Just wondering if a product says "natural flavors" or something ambiguous like that, then you confirm it's gluten free...do you call back periodically to make sure the natural flavors are still gluten...
  7. I realized I have the Albertson's brand food list, and they note that syrups are "gluten safe" defined as "could contain corn or rice." I assume that is gluten free then, correct?
  8. Ok, I just made my first call (just starting DD on gluten-free diet). Call Kelloggs about their Eggo syrup b/c it's what we happen to have right now. The prerecorded message said in general, Kelloggs products with malt is made from barley, therefore has gluten. But then said their syrup is not made with gluten containing ingredients. I don't see malt listed...
  9. Mrs. Buttersworth original? butter flavor? I know I can (and should) call the companies to verifiy, but I thought I'd help speed up the process by asking here. Thank you!
  10. I've heard that Log Cabin Country Kitchen is gluten free, but I haven't seen it. We really don't like the taste of pure maple syrup. Do any of the major brands have gluten free syrup? Aunt Jemima, Eggo, Hungry Jack, etc? Or store brands...Safeway, Albertsons'/Acme, Wegmans? Thank you!
  11. My daughter's pedi GI said they never order AGA IgG (but they do send AGA IgA)...he said the AGA IgG is worthless. I know from these forums it isn't worthless, but why? How does that value help with the diagnosis of celiac? I'd like to be informed for the next time I speak with him. Thanks!
  12. Our 2.5 yr old daughter had an elevated TTG, but biopsy was not definitive for celiac. She has a complicated case due to arthritis and immune suppressive medications that could skew the biopsy (actually both ways, the medication could have caused villi shortening classic with celiac, but it could have decreased the lymphocyte respponse normally seen with...
  13. Thank you all for your responses and support. We're still waiting to hear back from the the GI doc, but we really don't want to do another biopsy, and don't have a problem challenging his recommendations. As for the gluten free diet helping with her poly JRA, that makes sense that it could take a while to help (she is also on methotrexate, which has...
  14. These cookies are so good! Kind of like a chewy brownie cookie. The sign says they're gluten free, but they are manufactured in a plant with wheat products. They seem fairly healthy for a cookie. I would love to recreate them at home. I'm trying to remember the ingredients...egg whites, cocoa powder, walnuts (or pecans?), and I can't remember what else...
  15. Our 2.5 y old daughter has seen a pediatric gastroenterologist, but we're not thrilled with his bedside manner and we're also questioning his knowledge of celiac disease. Is there anyone you can recommend?
  16. Thank you! It was the natural and artificial flavors that was throwing me off. I am so excited when I can confirm things we can keep the same for my daughter. She loves her milk with CIB (although hopefully she won't have a problem with the milk).
  17. My daughter likes Carnation Instant Breakfast in her milk (Rich Milk Chocolate flavor). We started it for calorie boosting, and now she doesn't like milk without it. Is CIB gluten free? I'm trying to check the label and just feeling overwhelmed with all of this right now, so I thought I'd ask in case anyone happens to know. Thank you! ps--I will continue...
  18. Thank you for all of your thoughts. Her favorites are Cheerios, Raisin Bran, graham crackers (plain, won't eat cinnamon), goldfish (but she won't eat cheez-its or other shapes, at least not yet), mac n cheese, pizza, waffles, and pancakes. Just a note that we often offer her the choice between two things, but she'll want a third thing we didn't offer...
  19. Thank you for all of your suggestions. I really appreciate it. This forum has been so helpful the past few weeks.
  20. We're new to this and wondering what are the best multipurpose flours and binders (gums?) to buy when just starting the gluten free diet? What about baking soda and baking powder...are they gluten free? If not, where can we find gluten free versions? Thank you!
  21. Just spoke with DD's (2.5) doc. The bx was equivocal...there is damage to the villi, but the changes were not classic celiac disease. He's waiting to hear back from their expert pathologist for his input. With her celiac panel, her TTG was elevated, but she also has rheumatoid arthritis, which can also increase the TTG (however, I am aware that she is...
  22. My 2.5 yr old daughter's biopsy results should be back by tomorrow (but the more I read online, I'm thinking we will try gluten free even if biopsy is negative). Anyway, if definitely positive for celiac disease, I want to get her gluten free as soon as possible. Any suggestions for how to make the switch to a gluten free diet as easy as possible? Did...
  23. My 2.5 yr old daughter just had her bx, and I just have a feeling that she has celiac...results back on Tuesday. Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions of a good book to learn about celiac...specifically for my mom who watches my daughter a few days a week. I spend time online, but my mom doesn't go online. I need something that explains the basics of celiac...
  24. What is Enterolab testing? What is the difference between that and a celiac panel? Our DD is having a bx this week, just wondering what type of testing my husband and I should have done. Thanks!
  25. My daughter is 2.5, celiac screen was positive and biopsy is next week. I also realize that even if the biopsy is negative, she might still have celiac. My son is 3 months, and while we're obviously not starting him on baby food yet, we probably will be starting cereal/fruits/veggies sometime in the next few months. Just wondering...what should I feed...
