  1. I'm not an expert by any means so hopefully someone else will answer!! I'll tell you our situation. My DD was diagnosed with a wheat allergy. Her reaction though to all gluten is vomiting and diarrhea (we're talking she eats 5 cheerios and has diarrhea for 12 hours!). Her GI wants to see if it's Celiacs or just a plain old allergy but since she has...
  2. Violet's GI Dr. tested her for this yesterday at her appt. She's allergic to wheat so she's been on a gluten free diet for 9 months or so now so the regular test wouldn't be accurate (and she's only 19 months old) so he ran the gene test. But I forgot to ask how long it takes to get the results! Is it the standard few days or b/c it's a gene test does...
  3. My daughter is suspected Celiacs (she reacts so violently to gluten she's been off it since she basically first had it so we can't test for it) allergic to wheat, eggs, rice, soy, peanuts, lima beans, seaood, pears and sweet potatoes. we have NO family history of food allergies (other than seafood). She had probably the least traumatic birth ever!! You...
  4. I'm sorry, I know I'm new to all this and I know I'm more sensitive b/c Violet is a BABY and not a grown up so I feel bad when I gluten her, but does anyone else find it absurd that they can SAY on their website "Does NOT contain gluten" yet the teeny tiny astrix means that oh wait they can't garuntee it!? I mean if a food is listed as NOT containing gluten...
  5. I think we'll just stick with the Kettle products now or the Lays Stax you all recommended! Thanks! You know, I thought it said "gluten free" on the bag, but maybe I was mistaken...maybe I read the ingredients and THOUGHT it was gluten free - EITHER way if you go to their website it lists Cheetos as a gluten free food!! So maybe that's not "advertising...
  6. We were at my husbands company picnic where of course nothing was gluten free. They did have Cheetos so I gave them to my daughter. For the next 2 days she had diarrhea and was up at night. UGH. I called and Cheetos said they couldn't garuntee no cross contamination for EXTREMELY sensitive individuals! Um, that means they're not gluten FREE then right...
  7. Thanks guys! My ped. actually knows a TON about Celiacs because both her husband and son have it!! So when she saw what was happeneing with Violet it reminded her exactly of her son (her son is only a year older than Violet). So I think she is a great ped, but also it helps that she has personal experience. VERY interesting about the insurance. Maybe...
  8. Yes, that's what her Ped. said, that's why I was looking for some easy assumption, you know? I'm interested in the gene test though! That would be very interesting since one of my other DD's had suspceted Celiacs as well! (her blood test came out negative but she was only 18 months when it was done, if one DD had the gene I would get my other DD retested...
  9. Shoot, I forgot to answer one of the questions - it's all gluten, not just wheat. She can't eat barley either. Same thing. Haven't tried rye b/c she's only 16 months old and I don't know what I'd feed her with rye, LOL!
  10. Crud. I guess I was hoping they could say it without doing all the testing. I can't imagine putting her back on gluten for testing - I don't even know how she wouldn't, quite literally, get sick and die on gluten. Seriously she was SO SICK with vomiting and diarrhea it was a a stomach bug for 2 days each time she ate it. And she should be on it for 6...
  11. Hi everyone! I've been on periodically... My DD is now 16 months and they suspect Celiac's. She followed a typical course, when I was nursing her she was super fussy if I ate anything with wheat, introduced solids and she had constant diarrhea and vomiting (aka, "reflux"), anyway, she lost weight, got FTT, was horribly sick her first year. Once we cut...
  12. Ok, I'm going to go off on a tangent here. Antibiotics are NOT bad in this situation. My now 3 year old DD has/had UTI issues. UTI's are very, very, VERY dangerous in young children. VERY. They can cause permanant kidney damage. Not to scare you but the Dr.'s really do know best in this case. Emma's urologist said any of those natural UTI prevention...
  13. Was she checked for VUR? (Kidney reflux?) Did she have a VCUG? (The test where the catherize her and put the dye up to see if it refluxes in her kidneys?)
  14. Hi everyone! I'm the one with the baby Violet (15 months) and we dont' know if she does or doesn't have Celiacs. She tested positive on a scratch test for a wheat allergy but her symptoms are ONLY GI so the Dr. thinks it may have been a false positive. She also can't eat anything else with gluten though she's not allergic to those. Anyway! Today...
  15. Someone told me that if you have Celiacs and they only do the scratch test you can actually get a false positive b/c the skin reacts to gluten. Is this true? Did any allergists bring that up to you all?
  16. I usually use California babies for Violet but that sunscreen is SO darn hard to rub in and leaves her looking like a mime I can't stand it! I accidnetally bought some Water Babies spray (not lotion the kind that goes on clear) but I can't figure out if that contains gluten or not! Does anyone know?? Thanks! Linda
  17. Thanks everyone! It's funny, even being allergic her symptoms are all GI related. She gets bad diarrhea and a horrid butt rash. So either way, it's the same diet! I'll have to try the plain barely cereal and see what happens... I'm having trouble now that everything that is gluten free seems to have SOME sort of soy in it!!! And she's allergic to...
  18. Hi everyone! Remember me, I have the 11 month old that couldn't have gluten (it originally seemed) or she'd get horrid diarrhea, instant butt rash, she had Failure to Thrive and wasn't gaining weight. So we cut out gluten and she started gaining etc. BUT in the meantime they sent us to an allergist. We found out she's allergic to wheat, rice and eggs...
  19. Hi everyone! I'm the one with Violet, the 11 month old who seems to maybe have Celiacs, they haven't tested her but she can't have gluten had FTT, etc. now off gluten she's gaining weight, less fussy etc. Anyway we have to go see an allergist b/c she is apparently allergic to amoxiccillian. I was wondering, when I was there, is there anything I could...
  20. Ok, the IgA says it was Anti-Human Tissue Transglutaminase IgA ELSIA, that was 0.4 U/ml All the IgE says is IgE, I can't find and IgG value anywhere! Originally she had FTT but then this was negative so they just had me pack her with calories, etc. She never has diarrhea, but she does have chronic constipation, which we always thought was related to...
  21. Well, crud! So her GI ran the wrong tests??? I was wondering where the IGG was. There is no mention of any of that.
  22. My 3 year old DD was tested for Celiacs awhile ago, her Dr. said it was negative. Because of some other health issues we had to get her ENTIRE Children's Hospital file and I'm looking at her Celiacs results and I don't get it. I'm particularly curious b/c now her little sister seems to have a total classic gluten intolerance and can't have it at all. Since...
  23. I'm confused how you test a baby for Celiacs. From what I read if you are on a gluten free diet you won't test positive for it. However, if I give Violet gluten - even a few bites she reacts horribly! Not sleeping through the night, instant diarrhea, etc. There is NO WAY ON EARTH I would put her through that for 6 months to get the test correctly. So...
  24. My 10 month old has been gluten free for over a month now. The results are CRAZY! She now eats a TON, she sleeps through the night for the first time ever too! However, I gave her some Earths Best "Brown rice banana and plum" babyfood and wow, it said "Wheat free" but not gluten free but rice isn't supposed to have gluten is it? Well I'm thinking it MUST...
  25. I dont' know if this is what you're looking for, but I give my baby Mi-Del Arrowroot cookies. They are basically like Animal Crackers! She's 10 months and LOVES them! But I've never found anything like the teething biscuits that are thicker. Linda
