  1. Google Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth. Sounds very much like your symptoms, and is very common for people with Celiacs. I am recovering from it now - good luck! Kelly
  2. You might want to consider fat intolerance. Celiac's can and often does destroy the gallbladder - it did mine! You need a certain amount of dietary fats to absorb the fat soluable vitamins (so don't eliminate fats completely). However, if you notice more GI discomfort in the late afternoon/evening, a lot of smelly gas, a pain under your first right side...
  3. Cici, I too have Gallbladder problems (just diagnosed) - they are very common with Celiacs. There is a lot of information on the Web about flushes, but I am very interested in your experience. I have had an Ultra Sound and a HIDA scan (28% function) done for my gallbladder, and my doctor never mentioned a flush. Has your M.D. made the recommendation...
  4. Doctors work for us, and since you are a Celiac, you can have the expectation that the doctor will indeed test your children for the disease. So don't go in all apologetic with a list of "reasons" for your doctor to do the tests. Tell him/her that you want the testing done as soon as possible due to the genetic risk, and that you appreciate their efforts...
  5. See if your doctor can perscribe a different Thyroid medication that is dairy (lactose and casien free) as well as gluten free. Try that and see if all goes well before you start looking for other grains - it's worth the investigation! Good Luck! Kelly quote name='Martyg' date='Jul 9 2008, 12:05 PM' post='445582'] I do not normally do milk, yogurt...
  6. I was going to tell you that your new medication contains lactose (I am lactose intolerant). Do you normally use cows milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. (lactose) in your diet without problems? I am sure you noticed that your old thyroid medication does not contain lactose. The Lamotil you are taking also contains corn starch - do corn products normally bother...
  7. I am negative for DQ2 and DQ8, and female. I have 1/2 of the DQ2 gene, and have Celiacs, "Mine was highly unlikely, but still possible (like less than 1% chance, but still a chance - I seem to always fall into that category )." Science still knows very little about all the factors that result in Celiacs. One member here told me that countries other than...
  8. I have always heard that first degree relatives should always be tested. The chances are so much higher!! Now, for my opinion on a possibly "touchy" subject - I don't think I like the doctor you discussed very much at all. Your family doctor knows that you cannot tolerate gluten, then tells you that he or she thinks a gluten-free lifestyle is "rather unhealthy...
  9. Thanks for your reply. Do you know anything more about the "HLA DQA1*0201 Alleles." I've tried to look it up on the Internet, but have not found anything definitive. Kelly
  10. I'm sorry, to clarify the test said I was DQ2- and DQ8- (negative after each meant negative for each), but that I had the presence of the "HLA DQA1*0201 Alleles." So I'm negative for the two major genes, but have this "HLA DQA1*0201 Alleles," and I do not know what that means. Kelly
  11. Hello, my name is Kelly, and I am new to the group. Throughout my life I have experienced a lot of GI issues, that have coincided with increased consumption of Gluten (I really did not make that connection until this January). I'd feel reasonable great in the summer (times when I rarely if ever ate things that contained Gluten), and then would become progressively...
