ARCHIVED Fell Off The Wagon And Don't Want Back On...
Cath724 replied to Cath724's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thank you all very much, for taking your time to respond to my post. My family still thinks I AM being loyal to the gluten-free diet, and I haven't even told most of friends about the Celiac diagnosis, so you all are my only support system at the moment! I truly thank you for "waking" me up again to the importance of maintaing a strick gluten-free diet... -
ARCHIVED Fell Off The Wagon And Don't Want Back On...
Cath724 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been AWOL from this site for awhile, but I'm reaching out for some support and hope... I was diagnosed with Celiac last summer, and immediately went gluten-free and was pretty upbeat and optimistic about the whole ordeal. I remember tuning into this site regularly, reading posts from fellow Celiacs who were having trouble committing to gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Swollen Tonsils- Related?
Cath724 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi all- I've only been gluten-free about 2 months and began having swollen tonsils/throat often the past month, now constant. Can anyone relate? I am one of the "symptomless" celiacs- do you think this is a result of unknowingly ingesting gluten, or do you think this is unrelated? My concern is whether I should get my throat checked out, since it's... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Grocery List
Cath724 replied to Dustda18's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ah, the oats topic! Ref. the Nature Valley bars, I spoke to 2 separate representatives this week, and both assured me that their oats were "gluten-free" and if there were any possible contamination that they would list it for CYA. So I'm confused still--- do you think I should ask to speak to someone higher-up there who knows more, or just assume they're... -
ARCHIVED Not Satisfied On My New Diet
Cath724 replied to MLB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I felt really unfulfilled the first couple of weeks, after stocking up on gluten-free foods from the health store. I spent 3 times as much money on my grocery bill, but nothing seemed to satisfy me. I finally found relief when I re-discovered rice---it was filling, easy to fix, and "normal," I ate it ravenously the first week. I thought I would put on... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Grocery List
Cath724 replied to Dustda18's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here are some of my easy-to-find (and easy-to-fix!) favorites: -Yoplait yogurts (they label if "gluten-free") -Nature Valley bars--Fruit & Nut, Roasted Nut Crunch, Trail Mix (the company advised me that they list allergen info. if any ingredient contains, or may come in contact with, gluten) -Green Giant Simply Steam Frozen veggies-- Garden Vegetable... -
ARCHIVED Advice For My Little Nephew?! Neg. Bloodwork
Cath724 replied to Cath724's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you! I will ask them this week to get the bloodwork. -
Hi! I live in Washington, PA, about 45 minutes south of Pittsburgh and 45 minutes north of Morgantown, WV. I'd love to find some folks to try out some new restaurants if anyone's interested! The choices in my area are definately limited, to say the least (I'm a vegetarian too). Does anyone know, are Thai restaurants good places for Celiacs?

ARCHIVED Advice For My Little Nephew?! Neg. Bloodwork
Cath724 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi everyone, When I found out that celiac is hereditary I immediately thought of my 5-year old nephew. He's had health issues since birth (he was born with a herniated diaphragm). He's like 30lbs. at 5 years old, has always had acid reflux and stomach issues, etc., and now may have asthma. It's just one thing after another for the little guy. Long... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free @ Walmart Super Center
Cath724 replied to SacGFGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ah, Walmart, my first true love:) When I recently learned I had to go Gluten-free I was so relieved that Walmart is one of the few places that provides gluten info. for every item in their brand. For a beginner especially, it's helped me learn which types of food items may likely contain gluten and which ones are naturally gluten-free. A good idea... -
ARCHIVED Post-gluten Free And Feeling Terrible

ARCHIVED Asymptomatic, Recently Diagnosed
Cath724 replied to Hummingbird4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Hummingbird! I'm new here as well, and glad to be finding some others on here who were primarily asymptomatic before. Like you, my celiac was found when I had an endo--I thought I had a bleeding ulcer. I can completely relate to your feelings of disbelief that you even have the disease, because you don't feel ill like so many others with celiac. ... -
ARCHIVED Gastroparesis And Raynaud's Syndrome
Cath724 replied to beachbel's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Does anyone know of any reading material or links to the possible Raynaud-Celiac connection? I've had Raynaud's since I was a teenager, and just diagnosed with Celiac at 33. One book, Celiac Disease, dedicated less than half of a page to it, but that's the first time I've even heard of a connection. There are two kinds of Raynaud's, primary (meaning... -
I used to love Taco Bell-- as a vegetarian, I could get lots of things with beans instead of the beef. BUT as for gluten-free, it's much more limited-- Taco Bell's Food Allergies and Sensitivies list was last updated 6/08: Open Original Shared Link Their ingredient list was updated 1/08: Open Original Shared Link (clearly lists any item containg...

ARCHIVED Low Gfr- Is This From Celiac?
Cath724 replied to Cath724's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry, I could've spelled it out:) ... "GFR - glomerular filtration rate is the best test to measure your level of kidney function and determine your stage of kidney disease..." Everywhere I read, it says low GFR indicates renal failure, but I'm inclined to not believe everything I "Google"... -
ARCHIVED Celiac But No Horrible Symptoms
Cath724 replied to pnltbox27's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so glad to see this post! I'm also the "silent" celiac type, diagnosed 3 weeks ago (thought I had a bleeding ulcer--black stools, sour stomach, etc., so I had an endo, which showed celiac--and no ulcer, go figure:). As for keeping motivated, ShayFL certainly sums it up well-- to read the stats on our increased risk of certain cancers is what does... -
ARCHIVED Low Gfr- Is This From Celiac?
Cath724 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi folks, My initial bloodwork shows my "GFR" to be very low (I just now figured out how to tell it was even low:)-- is this likely due to the Celiac? Should I be concerned? My GI doc never pointed it out or mentioned it. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Thanks All Who Are Helping Me. This Week: A Mighty Wind!
Cath724 replied to Nancy Lake's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Nancy- How long have you been gluten-free? I am one of the ones who was primarily asymptomatic prior to my diagnosis, and I can very much relate to the gluten "withdrawal." I felt terrible the first few days, then I leveled out but have not yet felt well and continue to have various symptoms-- I have many symptoms now, gluten-free, that most complain... -
ARCHIVED Do You Recommend Clan Thompson For Pda?
Cath724 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've heard mixed reviews on Clan Thompson's gluten guide. Anyone feel like offering their personal experience/advice on this? Is it just for grocery stores, or restaurants too? (I'd have to buy a PDA for it, so don't want to make an impulsive buy:). Open Original Shared Link Thanks! -
ARCHIVED gluten-free A Cruel Joke On Me?!
Cath724 replied to Cath724's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the advice. And I certainly don't take the questions on gluten as an insult, because I'm about as amateur as they come right now! Rather than get completely overwhelmed all at once, I've been trying to have a positive attitude about the whole situation and do a little research everyday (I'm on my second book, and reading these forums). To answer... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free A Cruel Joke On Me?!
Cath724 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi all, It's only been a week and a half that I've been gluten-free, but I'm really finding my symptoms very ironic--I was one of the "lucky ones" who was largely symptom-free before, but as soon I stopped ingesting gluten, I've gotten every symptom on the list! GI "issues," limbs keep falling asleep, fatigue, irritability, edema, ataxia, lactose intolerance... -

ARCHIVED Should I Get More Blood Tests?
Cath724 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi everyone, I've noticed many folks talking about their lab results (blood), so I got a copy of mine to check them out... The first page shows the calcium, potatssium, etc., all of which were normal (except low Albumin), then the second page just says "IGA" of 249.9, which is listed as "unusually high abnormal," which I'm sure is what shows the likelihood... -
