  1. Fiddle-Faddle~ I have NOT heard this; that even mild seizures can cause brain damage. In fact, I have heard that denied. I read a stack of books on epilepsy and gobs of time on the Internet and have not run into this. I will be asking the doc about that! And, how would she be at risk of stroke? Think I will take this very cautiously. I was going...
  2. Ravenwood glass, & Ursa Major, Thank you for your concern, I have struggled and struggled with this myself. I want to asure you that the seizures are mild, coming and going quickly. The doc is concerned about what is seizure and what is migraine. Since they are mild, the two can look the same. (However, having 5-7 a day is nothing but mild). He...
  3. We are with you Gerri! (Meaning, me and my daughter because we are getting ready to do the same). Next week I start reintroducing gluten back into my 11 yr old daughter's diet. I know how you feel! I absolutely am NOT looking forward to it. When eating gluten she has 5-7 seizures and migraines a day and her Asthma gets out of control. (Not to mention...
  4. Hello to Closure, Wow! Sounds like you have really been dealing quiet some time...I am so sorry you have had so much trouble. I don't feel much able to advise you but want to share something small with you that I found to help me with multiple health issues. I recommend you to seek medical care from both a N.D. (naturopath) and M.D. Three times I have...
  5. dbmamaz, I thought that leaky gut and allergies are connected; that because the intestinal walls have been comprimised (holes), that food particles, namely the proteins, are able to travel through and make it into the blood stream. Then, this calls the immune system into action, it seeing the food as a foreign substance which then causing it to release...
  6. kbtoyssni, My daughter had a negative blood test after being off gluten for 2 or so weeks. I don't if I am trying to self-diagnosis as much as I'm trying to figure out my next step. I want to know if she is Celiac yet do have her symptoms mostly under control. (I want to know how to face the next 8 or so years with her and prepare her to care for herself...
  7. Ursa Major I know I have read about this but still don't know. What is Gliadin again? I have heard that seizures result from the build up of glutamate and asparate in the brain. That normally, healthy intestines produce the necessary enzymes to break them down. So many thoughts out there. Thank you Ursa.
  8. The Science behind it? Have you heard of seizures as a Celiac Disease symptom???
  9. gfpaperdoll, What is DQ1 genes? Are you saying that you are gluten intolerant yet have Celiac genes? If a person has Celiac gene(s), does that mean that person is Celiac? (Can a person have the gene but not be Celiac)? Guess I didn't quiet understand your post. You didn't specifically say you are celaic or not. I'm considering gene testing for...
  10. To Sealiac and Everyone Else, Thank you for your replies. With the combo of each one, they all help. I appreciate all the wonderful people who take the time to respond to questions on this forum. They have been a significant help here in my home in taking care of my daughter! Know that you are making a differnce in people's lives that are dealing with...
  11. This really does seem to be the most common question on this forum, "am I celiac or gluten intolerant"? I struggle with the same question for my daughter. She did, however, have skin testing done by an allergist and had HUGE welts on her back for wheat, trees, grasses, cats, dogs, and dust mites. These indicate allergy and are what induces her Asthma....
  12. Ok - that makes so much more sense! As for what can be gained from Enterolab, there is a full panel that includes more than the gluten-sensativity test but a malabsorption test, antibody test, gene test (for Celiac? Anyone know?), milk sensativity and more. Guess I still don't if any well be helpful, except that I feel the gluten-sensative one is unnecessary...
  13. Does this lab actually dx Celiac Disease? Or does it merely tell you if you are gluten sensative? I read discussion after discussion about biopsys. Can you find out you have Celiac Disease before your intestines are damaged? Is gluten sensativity merely a precursor Celiac? Ok, I know that is a string of questions but I really am confused about this....
  14. If eating gluten-free makes you feel better, than do it. Do anything that makes you healthier. You are your best health advocate. Don't wait and depend on doctors or testing when you know what your body tells you. My daugter just tested negative to Celiac but when she eats gluten she has seizures and migraines. I don't need a doctor or a test to tell me...
  15. Is the rash surrounded with redness? My daughter has had rosy rashy cheeks for years. We just learned she cannot have gluten and she has been gluten-free for about a month. No improvement though! She also has a chronic case of psorasis all over her body. Poor kid.
  16. Did your doctor order the lab from EnteroLab or did you do this personally for yourself? My daughter had a negative blood test too and I am trying to decide if I need to take the panel as well. My ND suggested it. What are you looking for? Can EnteroLab diagnosed Celiac or does it just "gluten sensativity"? Guess I am trying to figure out if it will be...
  17. I itch unmercifully when I eat oats. I am not a diagnosed celiac but react to them in the same way I react to gluten and eggs. I am puzzled by it all. (never been tested either). I only eat them if I am up to itching, which isn't very often. I'd rather eat eggs if I want to battle with symptoms. It's a tough one because they make such a healthful breakfast...
  18. Wow! Thanks everyone. I'm so glad to be reading on this site... I would have never thought to check ice cream, eggs, or corn tortillas. So glad others are here to share with us rookies. Know that your time on the forum is a significant help to others! Much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I've been having health issues with my 11 yr. daughter. She had 2 definite seizures and is having smaller "episodes" that I thought was some form of a seizure. Then we went to the neurologist and he asked questions about family history of migraines but never really diagnosed anything. (We are scheduled for further testing in a month). I am stuck here at...
  20. Does anyone have a super moist, flavorful, works-everytime recipe? We will be practicing our baking skills in the kitchen this week. I wonder how this year's judge will respond to gluten-free bread? Thanks!
  21. My 11 yr old daughter started having seizures in May. We have had health issues since birth. At age 6 Asthma started after 6 years of chronic ear infections, diarrhea, and stomach cramps in her first year. At 6 years old we changed her diet to treat her Asthma and allergies. Little did we know that switching from wheat to spelt was doing nothing for her...
  22. Hello to the Experts... My daughter has been having seizures for about 4 weeks now. For 5 years we've been dealing with food allergies and environmental allergies that causes her Asthma (amongst other allergic symptoms). I had her on a very strict diet in the beginning but gradually introduced her back to diary and then to spelt. All along she has been...
