I should add that hookworms aren't a cure for celiac disease. Some people, and I couldn't tell you how many, stop evincing the symptoms of celiac disease while their hookworm colonies are healthy. Others have a reduction in the severity of their reactions to gluten, but should still stay well away from it. And other people don't seem to be helped much at...

I was lucky (!) in that I would very quickly get sick after ingestion with something contaminated with gluten so it was easy to figure out the offender. I also had a very restricted diet and only ever introduced one new food item per day for this very reason. One memory that sticks out was pistachios. They put flour in the bag to stop the nuts sticking...

Took about 20 minutes and 1/2 of that was clean-up. As per what has become my usual process, I prepared five small jars with the expectation of only using the one jar with the greatest population of larvae. Today is August 29th, so given that a week appears to be sufficient time for the eggs to hatch and the larvae to do their thing of migrating down to the...

Probably the best Helminthic Therapy video I've seen
dixonpete commented on dixonpete's blog entry in Pete Dixon
I definitely fall into the category of being a celiac who hated being celiac and very much wanted that beer and sandwich. In fact, I just had a couple of regular bread ham sandwiches. Sadly no beer though. Trying to cut down. I can relate though to those celiacs who said that they would never touch gluten again, hookworms or no. Those memories of past... -

There is a discussion of celiac disease at 42:56. -
A couple of therapists who use hookworms in their practice and a Crohn's patient talk about their use of hookworms and other helminths. Hookworm treatment is the same for celiacs as it is for Crohn's or any other Inflammatory Bowel Disease condition.

Not much going on to report. My last inoculation of 25 Necator americanus hookworm larvae occurred April 11 2025, and I'm due to start incubating Aug 27 2026 and inoculate again with 25 larvae Sep 3 2025. Over the years I've seen my celiac/ulcerative colitis symptoms return six month-ish after inoculation, so I've settled on a frequency of a little less than...

Father, it's been some time since my last hookworm larvae innoculation
dixonpete commented on dixonpete's blog entry in Pete Dixon
I read a research article today about how hookworms are being considered as a standard of care of colitis. Dunno about them used for obesity treatment though. The first thing I did once I figured out I wasn't reacting to gluten anymore was to head for the bakery isle. It had been 13 years.. -
Followers of my blog probably watched Kyla's interview with William Porter from a few months ago. What might have slipped notice is that Kyla has her own YouTube channel where she posts videos about her experiences with Helminthic Therapy and Crohn's Disease. Spoilers, she's about 90% better because of HT. Kyla is very active on Instagram where her page is...

Takes about about a week to heal up. Surprisingly painless. -

Another concern I had with my cockup with the bandage was with the larvae sitting in the gauze potentially drying out and dying while I futzed around. Seems things are ok. I've been having tingles under the stretch bandage I used to secure placement. I'll know for sure in a couple of days when I see the entry wounds. -

I did a 5-day fast in March that really messed up my stools making faecal sample collection problematic. Apparently I'm one of the few people that really need fiber always going through my system to prevent things going to hell, so next time I fast I'll be doing that even though it does break the spirit of fasting. Seven days ago I set up 5 small jars... -

A video with researcher William Parker about Helminthic Therapy

My perspective on this topic will always be informed by my personal experience. I had had four GI related surgeries and was poised to have another big surgery, a colectomy, all because of my Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Hookworms put a stop to all that, including my reactions to gluten. I've had six years experience now doing hookworms, including 3X where... -

Necator americanus is particularly well adapted to humans. Personally I don't know of any cases outside of accidental overdoses where Helminthic Therapy self-treaters have suffered harm from NA. Sometimes the treatment doesn't help, and very occasionally side effects are intolerable. In those cases, if desired the worms can be killed off. Regular medical... -

I don't buy it either. I think a much better explanation is that humans evolved with hookworms just as hookworms evolved with us. The immunoregulatory activities that hookworms conduct to avoid expulsion from the gut have over time been incorporated into how the gut immune system works as a whole, and without hookworms present the gut immune system is incomplete... -

At this point I am free of colitis unless I ingest alcohol, peanuts/pistachios, and as I discovered just this week, red meat. I prefer pork and chicken over red meat anyway, and since alcoholism runs in my family losing alcohol I probably shouldn't regard as a great loss. Losing out on peanut butter sandwiches does suck though. In all, these three sensitivies... -

Parker didn't exactly go out of his way to sell Helminthic Therapy in this video, did he? In other videos online he's very much positive towards HT, especially Inflammatory Bowel Disease and MS. Acetaminophen is on the list of World Health Organization's Essential Medicines, yet according to Wikipedia it also is responsible for thousands of emergency... -

I have another doctor apt set in late January, I'll address it with him then. One thing hookworms do not protect me from is colitis induced by alcohol. It's a serious enough thing that even one drink can cause me regret. Nothing to do with gluten so far as I know, but a curious chink in the armor of hookworm protection.
-
When unprotected by hookworms I strongly associate any gluten exposure with wanting to pass out, wanting to throw up/actually throwing up, and total bowel evacuation, but I'm actually seeing my doctor in an hour or so, so I'll put the endoscopy question to him. What other blood tests do you recommend?
-
I forgot to add a status update on my health. I've had no issues. Been staying away from the foods I know cause GI problems: alcohol, peanuts and mayo. Stools are well-formed and of normal frequency. Consumption of gluten continues to have no effect.

I did another test incubation that turned out to be successful. Though it was a month early, I didn't see any harm in inoculating early with 25 larvae. This time I used 5 jars. Three had zero larvae, one had an ok yield, and the last had good/very good population. The included pic is from that last jar. With that kind of density, collecting the needed...

Published 12 September 2024: Health-promoting worms? Prospects and pitfalls of helminth therapy A good summary of the topic with the low-down that more research is needed. In regard to celiac disease, the article says that while clinical studies haven't shown substantial results, self-treaters show consistent success (like me). I've mentioned this...

John Scott pointed me to Wiki entry about the effect of diet on hookworm egg production: https://www.helminthictherapywiki.org/wiki/NA_incubation:_very_detailed_method_by_Alana#Promotion_of_egg_viability_by_dietary_manipulation Nothing presently in my diet was mentioned in the article, but it does bring up the obvious point that my diet would naturally...
