    I'm O+, brown-brown Polish/English.

So, why would all the other blood types need shots? For what?

Only females with Rh Negative blood need be concerned.

If you have the RH Negative factor and you are female and you get pregnant by a male who has Postitive blood then your child will have positive blood. You will build up anti-bodies during your first pregnancy and if you get pregnant again those anti-bodies will attack the fetus and kill it. You can get a shot of Rh immunoglobulin and it will desensitize the Mothers blood so that it will not build up anti-bodies.

My Husband was A- and I was O- so I never had to have the shot because of my kids were negative.

    Hi RissaRoo,

I thought I read somewhere in this forum that Honey Baked had re-formulated their glaze and that it was now gluten-free? This would be as of 2007....

    JoAnn

I just called them last week (12/22/08 to be exact) and was assured that all of their hams and turkey breasts are now gluten free. IT is also stated on their web site under Frequently asked Questions.

  3. I've had DH all of my 47 years but only found out what it was 2 months ago. The DH is a direct result of what you have been consuming but YES, climate can affect your skin drastically. I have lived in various regions in the U.S. From the humid south to the dry frigid north. I always had blisters in varying severity but in the winter my skin would become unbearable. The blisters were not any worse but the dryness of my skin was terrible. I always figured it was because I was wearing more clothes (i.e. socks, long sleeves, scarves, heavy jackets bundled around my wrists and neck) that zapped the moisture out of my skin as well as experiencing low humidity.

When I lived in Florida I had DH outbreaks but I didn't seem to have such dry skin and the blisters seemed to heal quicker. I was also wearing suntan oil all the time.

I would really recommend you switch to a moisturizing soap like Pure Olive Oil or Pure Coconut Oil Soap. I also have found that pure coconut oil, olive oil or baby oil or baby lotion works best for me and sometimes when my skin was really cracking I used petroleum jelly and covered with white cotton. Try adding some humidity to the air around you especially at night when your sleeping (a humidifier is a must in my house)

I avoid any lotion that contain any type of alcohol (almost all do) because it will dry your skin and cause cracking.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.

P.S. I've only been gluten free 2 months and I already see a great differance in how my DH is reacting. Also make sure you are consuming healthy skin foods like olive oil, avocados and olives to help moisturize from the inside out.

  4. I have DH which of course leaves me with very dry patches on my arms and leggs and face. I recently found Pure Olive Oil Soap by Kiss My Face and I have fallen in love! I use it all over but really concentrate on the dry patches and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing off. I've only been using it a week but I can already tell a hugh difference. The dry patches are becoming soft and supple again and at 47 I see a significant differance on the fine lines on my face.

It's working for me so I thought I would pass the info on.

  5. Last Tuesday I snagged 2 french fries off my husbands plate that he had brought home from the local burger joint. Now I knew they used the same fryer to fry their onion rings and french fries but I figured 2 fries would have such a small amount it couldn't hurt. <_< Yeah Right! I was sick for 3 days and the French Fries were the only thing I had ingested that could have had any gluten.

My DH said "that will teach you to steal my french fries" :P

  6. 24 years ago when I first became pregnant with my Son my OBGYN told me to cut out all Aspartame. When I asked him why he said he felt it was legal poison and there was no data on how it affected the nervous system of a developing fetus. I never touched the stuff again and never allowed my children to have any.

Now if I happen to accidently ingest some I develope a migrane within the hour.

I avoid all artifical sweetners and that includes high frutose corn syrup. If I want a soda I make sure it is made with pure cane sugar.

  7. I'm almost 2 months into the gluten-free diet. I have been lactose intollerent for as long as I can remember, probably my first Celiac sign but never knew it. I have no problem with butter, hard cheese or Lactose free milk (Lactaid) but cannot touch ice cream, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, expensive milk chocolate (dark is fine) etc......

I noticed I seem to have a problem with soy so I have cut it from my diet for the past month. It was giving me the same problem as the lactose milk. The other thing I am having a problem with is larger amounts of frutose (more than 10 grapes at a time). I seem to be OK with a smaller serving. I have to avoid HFCS all together.

  8. My first thought was dehydration too but I drink pleanty of water and I've been very aware of my intake since this has started. I've avoided MSG but I suppose I could have missed some somewhere.

I'm thinking allergic reaction also but I haven't started consuming anything new, more like I've eleminated alot from my diet.

Hadn't realized a Hypothyroid could cause tongue swelling.

  9. Recently I have been experiencing a slightly swollen tongue. Not all the time but every couple of days for a few hours. It seems to get puffy and ruffled along the edges. It does not hurt and is not sensative but does feel slightly numb near the tip on top. I can't seem to figure out what might be causing it. I've been gluten free for 6 weeks with just a few mishaps.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

  10. I think it is possible but you really have to be very careful about the type of resturant you choose.

I have had no luck what so ever with the big chain resturants that say they offer gluten free items. I have tried on 3 occasions, 3 different chains and have been glutened each time.

But I have had great success with 4 of our local privately owned resturants. Each time I asked to speak with the Manager or Owner before we sat down and explained my problem and was assured each time they would see personally that I was taken care of. They each spoke to the server and the kitchen themselves and I had a wonderful experience each time and was able to order pretty much off the regular menu with some discussion of a few alterations. I haven't been glutened yet :)

I think the bigger chains have a set menu with most of their recipes pre-made so alterations are harder for them to handle. The smaller privately owned resturants cook more made-to-order.

Now of course I haven't tried eating at an Italian resturant but my choices so far have been two different seafood resturants, a steak house and Mexican. All have been wonderful and very understanding and surprisingly knowledgeable of what Gluten is.

At one of the big chains that even had a Gluten Free menu, none of the people there had an understanding of what was acceptable.

  11. funny you should mention the diet. I too went on a carb-free diet that was by nature pretty much gluten free about 6 years ago. I lost over 30 lbs in 8 weeks and felt fantastic. The best I had ever remembered feeling my entire life. Alas it was a diet and did not account for healthy carbs so I decided not to try it again. I've been Gluten free now for about 6 weeks and I'm finally sarting to feel so much better. Weight is not melting off but I am noticing a differance.

  12. Trying the diet can't harm you but it may give you all the answers you will need.

I too gained weight over the past 8 years (65 lbs.) with no explanation. I eat healthy (or so I thought) exercised but continued to gain weight. This was a hard thing to swallow being I have never weighed more than 125lbs my whole life.

I have had a multitude of problems all my life including diarrhea but no Dr. had ever suspected Celiac. Back in August I started having unbelievable cramping (lying on the bathroom floor for hours till I could stand up) and explosive diarrhea, pure water with the force of a fire hose (sorry for the graphic). Dr, finally stated that she thought I might be Gluten intollerent. I went Gluten free that day and noticed immediate relief. Within 3 days I suddenly had no heartburn, no muscle cramping and I had started to lose the bloat. Within 2 weeks I lost 10 lbs and was feeling great. Then I decided to get tested. So I started eating gluten again and started getting all the terrible symptoms again. I must not have been eating enough gluten because all my tests came back negative or weak postitive. I have opted not to have the biopsy. My GI doesn't fee it is necessary due to my tremendous response to the diet he has diagnosed me as Gluten Intollerent. Since then I have had the test for DH and it has come back positive.

Like I said before, the diet can't hurt you but it can change your life.

  13. Hypokalemia might be a factor.

I have suffered from Hypokalemia off and on for over 24 years. First diagnosed with my first pregnancy. Fainting and dizziness for no reason.

Hypokalemia is a condition of below normal levels of potassium in the blood serum. Potassium, a necessary electrolyte, facilitates nerve impulse conduction and the contraction of skeletal and smooth muscles, including the heart.

I had to have weekly blood tests to watch the level of Potassium, Magnesium and Sodium in my body while taking supplements to ensure proper heart function. No Doctor ever found or actually activally sought a reason why I do not retain electrolytes. Now it all makes so much sense to me. Obviously I wasn't absorbing enough to maintain the necessary levels. When I mentioned this to my new GI he just shook his head and asked "And no one ever thought to test you for Celiac Sprue?"

  14. You should have no problem. When most people think Italian food the first thing that comes to mind is Pizza and Pasta. Truth is when I was there I found very little of either. You had to actually go to a Pizza place for pizza and pasta is considered kind of a side dish. Every where I ate had wonderful fresh meats, vegetable and fruits. I would be more concerned if you can't eat dairy. Cheese and cream are everywhere.

  15. Your Dr. tells you that you are getting older and therefore probably becoming intollerent to Gluten. So go lactose free and cut back whole grain foods and you should probably take a daily stool softener so that when you don't have diarrhea you won't have to strain.
