  1. It seems so common to have to deal with that arrogance. Que lastima. I wonder if my slips count as eating gluten. Probably not enough I am considering finding a new doc, though I'm not sure I want to go the "gluten-eating" route again.
  2. Wow, thank you! I will pass them along to my doctor. I also checked out the Prometheus website, which is the lab that the GI group sends the blood work out to. It turns out that they do the genetic testing for the major autoimmune disorders - Crohn's, Celiac, IBS, IBD, and UC. I think I'll call them and ask them, then I know my doc will be more responsive...
  3. Awww. I was hoping this would be EASY!! LOL ; ) I feel like it's a hard thing to ask a doctor if they are informed about this... of course they will say, "Yes!" because they are "supposed" to. He said that the tests through Prometheus labs are accurate even without consuming gluten. I wonder if they are different kinds of blood tests? This is what...
  4. I get those tiny red bumps too. Exactly how you described. I am convinced they have to do with gluten intolerance because when I am accidentally glutened and all my typical symptoms reappear, the rash is soon to follow. I can't even really call it a rash, the bumps cluster together but not all over my hands, just the joints of my fingers and the top of my...
  5. Thanks for the replies! Yes I've heard that you have to eat gluten in order for the test to be accurate. I'm not sure why this doctor told me otherwise, but I figured if he's a GI then he should know... I've heard you have to eat about 4 slices of bread a day for at least three months (this would KILL my stomach). What I'm afraid of is having a false...
  6. I just saw a GI who scoffed at my Enterolab results. I'm fine with that since Enterolab pointed me in the right direction, and I understand that the GI wants to start from scratch. My question is, do I need to be ingesting gluten in order to test accurately for celiac? I expressed my concern that I thought I had to be on a gluten diet so that I won't get...
  7. I have similar issues. I noticed being gluten-free for about a month, maybe more, and finding significant improvements in my mood. I had a slip-up and within minutes my mood shifted to complete rage. The following few days I was depressed... the negative self-talk, the thought distortions, the anger and despair, it was all back. I was frightened that something...
  8. I just read the post on the Vivanno frozen drinks, and the comments in that post about cross-contamination from protein powder. Wouldn't it be possible for any steamed drink to be CC because of this powder? Can anyone comment? I LOVE my caramel macciato's and soy vanilla lattes. Now I'm not so sure....
  9. Has anyone read "The Gluten Connection"? The author talks about gluten and the myriad of health issues that are associated with an intolerance, plus she talks about the medical establishment's attitude toward the whole issue. She offers many cases of people who were misdiagnosed for years but felt better after weeks off gluten. Great read. I often struggle...
  10. I just spoke with my mom about this last night. I had a similar experience quitting smoking - dreaming of taking a drag and waking up with hurting lungs and guilt. (Thank God I quit). I have a feeling it's similar with the gluten-free dreams. Body going through a kind of detox, perhaps? I've had 2 gluten dreams in the past week. In both I woke up feeling...
  11. Hi Texas, Mother's Cafe is really good. The owner has celiac's and they provide a gluten free menu. They are #1 on my list. Z'Tejas is good.... there is a Pei Wei also if you are looking for something quick, I've never had a problem there. Check out www.glutenfreeregistry.com/ - this is a wonderful resource and all the information is there - address...
  12. I just went to a flying star (ABQ, NM location) and I should have taken the hint when I saw a disclaimer sign hanging on their wall. Something to the effect of "If you have a specific allergy, please be aware that specific ingredients in our products is not available." I spoke to the manager, made sure that he knew to have the staff clean the grill, made...
  13. Thank you, this is a great resource!
  14. This is such a great thread, all questions I've been asking myself. I'm not celiac but I have double DQ1 genes, DQ5 and DQ7 which I've been told make up one celiac gene. For all us "non-celiac" but gluten sensitive people, does this information still apply? Does gluten still do damage to our insides and put us at risk for other illnesses even without the...

  16. Ahhhh there's the confusion. I didn't know about alpha chains. I looked up some stuff on wikipedia but couldn't understand it. I'll just keep reading, the forums are helping a lot. Thanks again.
  17. How does one find out if they have half of the celiac gene? I just got my gene test back and my results were: HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0301 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0502 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 3,1 (Subtype 7,5) I guess that would be DQ2? But then again, there is something about having both DQ7...
  18. Hi Sonya. Yes it is overwhelming. In fact, I came home from work after 2 days of not feeling all that great, and realized I ate fries the other day and after some research I found they are not gluten free as I thought. On my way home I just burst into tears. I'm going home for the holidays, and I see my family once a year. We are Italian and the whole culture...
  19. Hi Nora, Thank you for sharing the info - I'm not sure what it means but I will look up all that you suggested. When you say that you have not seen any patients reporting on labs telling them they have this trans form of DQ2, do you mean on this forum or do you work in a healthcare setting? (You sound professional : ) )
  20. Hi all, I took the full panel gluten sensitivity test a few week ago from Enterolab. The results were: Fecal Antigliadin IgA
  21. Thank you so much for this post!!! I used to live in New Haven but relocated to Santa Fe... every year I go back to CT for the holidays (the only Italian who can't have pasta... criminall!) and I miss my baked goods. Greatly appreciated!! -Rachel
  22. What a great response!! I'm so happy for you, good luck - Have you heard anything back yet? Keep us posted!
  23. That is how I'm operating at the moment, not going back just yet. I also considered my family history. 5 out of 8 of my great-grandmother's siblings had colon cancer, as did my grandmother, and now my mother has all of the same symptoms I do. I'd rather not set the stage for that, especially if I have an inkling that something is wrong.
  24. Yes I thought that same thing... if 10 is the cutoff, then what does 8 mean? In a few years it will be higher? Interpreting test results is difficult in the sense that it is a "snapshot" of what is happening in a moment in time. Not sure what the 8 means being so close to 10. I'm a budding therapist, not doctor... I never deal with numbers!
  25. Hi Fedora, No I did not have the bloodwork done in the traditional sense. I took the Biocard Home Celiac Test just to screen it at first, but there were two problems with this: 1. I was on a gluten free diet for a few weeks, and 2. I'm not sure which it tested for - IGA or IGG. I am a student with all of my money going to my naturopath and gluten free...
