  1. Yes, we went to a reception there and it was dressy casual (?) I wore black pants, black button down shirt and heels, some of the guys had on suits and others were in khakis and button downs. If you were to just go for dinner, I would say business casual and you wouldnt have to worry.

It is on Virginia Dare Rd - right on the ocean. It is actually in the Sea Ranch Hotel.

Hope you get to try it.

  2. Thanks! I appreciate your responses. I will try the dairy and see what happens. The further along I get, the better I feel for longer periods of time. I know it has only been 2 weeks.

I have tried *fingers crossed* to keep out as much processed foods as I can. They must dont even taste good and having the thought constantly running through my head of the consequences, it hasnt been that hard LOL.

Thanks again - and bye bye for now to dairy :)

  3. Just wanted to let anyone that vacations there or is on their way, that the Pearl in Kill Devil Hills, will be more than happy to accommodate your diet.

We were at a wedding reception there this past weekend and they had no problem making my meal "special". My wonderful husband, with out me knowing, went in to speak with them the morning of the reception. They told him to come back once we arrived and to let them know where I will be seated. We did that and they prepared my food, fish, rice and asparagus on a totally separate, clean part of their grill. It was delicious. I was so happy to be served at the same time as everyone else, without having to worry. PHEW! I felt great!

I thanked the chef/owners wife and she told me that she has a regular that comes in that is highly allergic to black pepper. She will call ahead and let them know that she is coming and they will clean the grill and make sure she is not CC. She also told me that I (we :) "Should be able to go into any restaurant and not have a problem - if they care about their food and the customers, they should be able to accommodate." I agreed, but ya'know.........

Well, if any of you travel to the Outer Banks, please try to stop in. The food is great, but the people are even better.

    Amanda :)

    Totally satisfied customer. :):):)

  4. Good morning!

I started the gluten-free diet about 2 weeks ago and trying to be as careful as possible, I still get bad back pains and the occasional slight stomach bloat.

I have read about cutting other foods out of your diet, but how do you know where to start? How long do you give it to rule it out either that it is bad for you or causing no problems?

I know that everyone is different but is there a "general"way to start?

Also, does the gluten linger in your system?

    Thanks

    Amanda :)

  5. My husband and I went to PF Changs in Knoxville for lunch today and it was so good and I feel great! We shared the lettuce wraps - very delicious and I had the shrimp and lobster sauce. I think I could just have the lettuce wraps as a meal.

Thanks to whoever first suggested Changs!

  6. OK - so I read somwhere else on the boards that starting out with basics such as fruit, veggies, meat etc. is maybe the way to go in the beginning - basically leaving out even the gluten free breads.

I was told by my Dr before going through a bunch of tests to try changing my diet and see if there is any improvement - this was last week and I am feeling sooooo much better, but still get some back pain around the same time every day. I am assuming this is "normal" maybe just getting all the leftovers out of my system.

I have been reading the boards for a few days now and there is a lot of help and it is very appreciated.

Hope everyone has a feel good day! :)
