Here is what I received from the local support group...
October is Celiac Awareness Month through the CSA (Celiac Sprue Association) with whom our support group is affiliated.
We have some media opportunities to make you aware of:
On Wednesday, Oct. 15th, Susan Roberts will be on WBIR in the morning. It is my understanding that she will be on at 6:35 AM!
Tammi Ford will be on the Phil Williams show later in the month.....we will let you know when it has been confirmed.

Here is a response from Regal Entertainment regarding movie popcorn.
Nutritional Ingredients - Popcorn
Per your request, below are the nutritional ingredients of our popcorn components:
Popcorn Seed
Contents: Natural product. Unpopped popcorn seeds.
Coconut Oil
Contents: Coconut Oil, Beta Carotene. This is a refined, bleached and deodorized coconut oil.
Seasoning Salt
Contents: Salt, Certified food color (including FD&C Yellow #5 & #6), imitation butter flavor, Tri-calcium Phosphate added as an anti-caking agent
The typical batch of popcorn contains 4 parts seed to 1 part oil, and 2 to 5 teaspoons of salt depending on the size of the popcorn kettle and the make/model of the popper. For example, a 32 oz kettle would require 32 oz of popcorn seed, 8 oz of coconut oil, and 3 Tsp. of seasoning salt.
Voluntary addition to the popcorn

Is movie popcorn OK to eat?

Haven't really found any prepackaged breads that I like yet, but Gillian's cinnamon rolls and french bread rolls are pretty good.
I also prefer the rice pasta.
I bought "Gluten Free and Easy" cookbook by Robyn Russell and made a couple of recipies from it that were delicious. The Pork w/OJ and Soy Sauce and Chicken Souvlaki w/tzatziki (sp) Both were soooo good.

So we were hungry and I was so tired of cooking from scratch, so..... off we go to a new restaurant.
A new sushi place opened and we thought, OK sushi, knowing that Teriyaki and soy sauce were a big fat no-no but, whatever, I'll find something. Well, they didnt have gluten-free and the whole menu, almost, EVERYTHING had teriyaki in it, on it, around it *you get the idea* so I stuck with a salad with citrus dressing. Food comes, take a bite, OH NO totally smells either soy saucy or teriyaki- like, Took a bite and was SO SUPER SCARED! Put downj the fork and waited to go.
It has been hours, usually I get hit within about 3, so I guess it was OK.
*fingers crossed* No Contamiatinon. I know I have said on another topic that I was curious, however, I want it to be on my own doing, if I choose.
So, all in all, Tomo in Knoxville is not a restauranT i would recommend. Yes, I did ask for gluten-free.

I went gluten-free in Feb of 08, did great until 3/15/08 lol. The last day I will ever consume gluten. I went to my friends daughters b-day party. They had my favorite cupcakes and frosting, along with pasta and garlic bread all of my used to be favs. Well I was already feeling a bit ill from antibiotics I was taking and it was my first social outing since being dx. Well I caved and decided, why not? I ate so much gluten it was unreal! I went on a binge. Never ever again! I didnt have digestive problems until the next day and that lasted for a week. I had a horrible migraine that night, I couldnt sleep I had to lay there in the dark my head hurt so bad. I never got a migraine before finding out about celiac, just digestive problems, crazy how the body reacts differently now.
My mom used to tell me, I am sure you can cheat every now and then. I thought about it before I knew how much damage it did to my body.
Been gluten-free since 3/15/08, will not ever consume gluten on purpose ever again. If you need to prove it to yourself, I say try it. You will learn from it trust me lol.
Please no one get upset from the above comment, you never know until you try.
Totally not upset about that comment
I think the whole thing is that since I was advised by mr dr. to "try" it and see how is goes is what is bringing on the idea.
I remember the pain and very unhappy, uncomfortable, however you want to describe it feeling and DO NOT want to go there (at least not on purpose)
Basically, the thought just keeps popping into my head, or more like the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other.
Thanks so much for all the replies. Reassurance is definitely needed.

So it's been about a month now and I feel great! But...... since I wasn't actually diagnosed as Celiac, I am so tempted to just try a piece of bread or whatever, to see if that is/was the case.
I know that by default, me feeling better, that it most likely was gluten, but that not actually "knowing thing", is driving me CRAZY!! *pulling out hair* I just want to take a piece of bread, eat it, wait and see what happens, but I am so scared to. Knowing the feeling of the pain, is enough to get over it real quick.
Has anyone else felt like this? What did you do? Did you take the test?
I really am interested in knowing everything
Thanks all!

Not sure if I posted in the right spot...
I was wondering if there was any kind of walk or any kind of awareness being promoted. I would be very interested in being part of getting one together.
Maybe to restaurants, grocery stores, etc.....

Th pain, the pain, the PAIN!!
Since going gluten free - almost/only 1 month now I feel better than ever!
Starting to see slight weightloss
Able to make it through the whole day w/o being couched
Finding that there is delicious food
Not being in a fog
Getting back into cooking like I used to be
Just making each day a little better - I think THAT is the best thing since changing my diet
Best to all!

If a turkey is stuffed with "regular" stuffing, will that contaminate the whole turkey?
Also, does anyone have a good stuffing recipie to share?
Thanks

This is the reply that I received this morning.
Dear Amanda,
I had to go to the source in order to answer questions related to gluten free products from Trophy Nut Company, as my records show that is what nut company GSC Tanasai is using. Please see Bob Wilke's answer below-it looks like there are two products you need to steer clear of. However, if you are really sensitive (as are folks with peanut allergies), we can not guarantee that you will not have problems. But that is true for anything manufactured in the same place as other products. I hope this helps.

Chris,
Any of our mixes that have sesame stix would contain wheat which is a form of gluten. Our Honey Peanuts have Maltodextrin which is made from wheat and therefore is a form of Gluten. So our Honey Peanuts and our Cajun Mix are the only two products that contain a form of gluten, however, saying that our products are Gluten Free would kind of be like saying our Cashews are Peanut Free. The fact is that all of our products are produced in a facility that handles products that contain a form of Gluten. Therefore, I would never claim that we are Gluten Free even though you are correct in that most standard nut products would not contain any form of Gluten.

I think you are right - at least as far as their website is concerned.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Bonefish Grill on Kingston Pike in Knoxville is gluten-free.
Alot of you might have already known this but figured I would post anyway.
As I was kindly reminding our server about the gluten-free, she said that alot of things on their menu were created gluten-free due to the fact that the creator of Bonefish and the menu, has sons that have Celiac.
Thought that was interesting and wanted to share.

I am new too! Feeling SOOOOO much better and learning so much!
Having the support of my family makes this alot easier.

OK - so a little further digging - I found this
Open Original Shared Link
Does this cover the chocolate coverings?

I was wondering if anyone new about the annual nut sale the girl scouts do every year, if anything is gluten free?
I have emailed the GSA directly, but no response... yet.
They have chocolate covered peanuts and raisins, turtles, mint chocolates and mixed nuts among other things.
If anyone knows, that would be great before ordering.
Thanks

That sounds sooo good!!
What is nightshade?
Thanks

Almost every season for the past 5 years, i've had chronic constipation, where all bowel movement stopped and a week's worth of food would build up. Just recently I realized that before every incident I had eaten pizza dough or bagels.
A few days ago I removed gluten from my diet and a week's worth of food came out with all symptoms gone: frozen bowel, bloated food buildup, unable to pass gas, aching joints, high body temperature, dehydration, clogged sinuses, lethargy, constantly tired, and scaly red rash on face.
How long would I have to go back on gluten for it to show up on a blood test, and should I get an official diagnosis if the only official treatment is to classify me as high risk on future insurance applications?
Hey woken!
I am not to far into this gluten-free diet, but I had some of the same symptoms as you, except for the sinuses and rash. I always felt that way especially after a pasta or pizza meal ( of course, now my old favorites
and pretty much BREAD
I went to my Dr. because I couldnt take the pain another second and didnt have a clue how to get rid of it. He told me that instead of $$$ spent on testing to try a gluten-free diet and see what happens. I did and feel wonderful. Of course, there are still days (quite a few) that I feel bad, but that will pass. It has been almost 3 weeks now...
I think that a doctor visit may/should be done because of anything else that may be present. Just a thought.
I hope that you are feeling better.
Oh and SlayFL - I have heeded your advice and ruled out dairy for now - and I havent had any stomach or back issues for 2 days !! WOOHOO

My kids were with grandma in Greenville, SC over the weekend and when they were at Bloom's, they found a computer towards the front of the store to play with.
They decided that they would look up gluten free recipies for me. They were able to print them out too. How sweet of them.
Now, some of the recipies had regular ol' flour in them, but maybe it can be substituted. Not sure yet as I am new to this.
Some of them also looked pretty tasty.
So, if you have a Blooms by you, you may want to give it a try for something different.

Thanks everyone for sharing.
I do think about it pretty much everyday, but at the end of that day, decide not to. I am too scared to try, especially after reading the replies. I feel to good now to go backwards.
Thanks again for your input and help.
You guys rock!!!
