  1. Welll.....I'm pretty sure it's not gas. That's just not something I've really struggled with through all of this. When I could eat beans (I can't now, because of my stomach condition that requires a low fiber diet), I could eat a whole bowl full of them and not get gas.

I've tried the probiotic thing. That doesn't agree with me at ALL. Feels like I just drank a bottle of acid. I guess it could be just that I'm not able to digest all the types of food I'm eating right now. Maybe I should be more basic with my diet (although I'm not sure how much more basic I could get), and eliminate a few things.

  2. Hi all,

In my quest to go sugar free, I picked up some Hershey's miniatures (plain chocolate) and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (mini's) - both sugar free. Hershey's ingredients are: Lacticol (Milk); Chocolate; Cocoa butter; polydexrose; cream (milk); milkfat; contains 2% or less of : soy lecithin; PGPR (Emulsifier); Artificial Flavor; and sucralose. The PB Cups are: Lacticol (Milk); peauts; chocolate; cocoa butter; cornstarch; peanut oil; milkfat; contains 2% or less of: polydextrose; partially hydorgenated soybean and cottonseed oils; salt; cream (milk); soy lecithin and PGPR, emulsifiers; natural and artificial flavor; TBHQ (Preservative); and sucralose.

What do you think? Are they gluten-free? I know the regular ones are. Or should I just contact the company? I thought I'd give the board a try, just in case someone had already contacted them.

    Thanks!

  3. I a 5'3" and weigh between 111 and 115, depending on the day I guess. But what I've noticed, is that the scale never tips over that 115, and yet clothes are getting tighter, and I definitely look like I've gained. I just don't get it!! It's weird! A lot of it is in my hips and tummy, which I hate (who wouldn't?).

Does anyone else have this problem, or am I the Lone Ranger here?? :(

  4. On the recommendation of someone (?) on this list, I went and bought some Emergen-C vitamin packets. They're powder, that dissolves in water, so I thought they would be easy to assimilate. They did give me more energy, but I felt like it nearly burned my stomach lining out. I admit, I'm sensitive in the tummy. So....I will give them to the kids, who think they're great!! :-) My question is....does anyone know of a similar product that is a powder, but maybe isn't so acidic? I like the powder idea, because I have problems breaking down the pills.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  5. Wow! That's cool that you caught it before she actually started having symptoms though! That's what I'd like to do with Andrew too....and maybe my girls now!! I homeschool Andrew, but the girls go to school. So Andrew and I could eat the same things here at home....the girls would be more challenging. I'll let you know if I need help.

    Thanks so much!!

  6. This is a little bit of an old thread, but wanted to add that I had incredible thirst. After being gluten-free for two weeks, I cut my water consumption in about half. Now I've stayed there. I think a lot of water is good, but you can drink too much which dilutes your minerals. I was advised not to drink so much because I had low calcium/potassium but I just couldn't do it. Gee.....wonder why the c/p was low!!!!??? DUH! :D

  7. Yeah, I'm thinking I just got some crumbs. I usually am very careful, but sometimes when I get in a hurry (because of low blood sugar) I do get careless. Sometimes I'm just so darn hungry!! But....I'm not complaining. I spent years not every having a single tummy growl. I welcome them now. Heehee...

P.S. I am feeling somewhat better today. Thanks!!

  8. Well...if I had gone on the prescription meds, I would have made sure. But since I didn't, I don't know for positive. The herb I take is gluten free, although not every manufacturer of that herb is necessarily gluten-free. You'd just have to check. The one I take says right on the bottle that's it is gluten-free.

  9. I would definitely ask him! There's some info on the web too, although I don't have the exact addresses. Just punch in polycystic ovary disease, and it should bring something up. I am on a natural blood sugar med....called gymnema sylvestre (I think that's the right spelling). The prescription meds are called metformin, and glucophage. I would go with the herb first, of course. But it's an individual choice.

Good luck. Let me know how it turns out!!

  10. My son, Andrew, is eight years old. He doesn't have a lot of GI symptoms, other than he is allergic to milk. I've had him on Rice Milk since he was a baby because of recurrent ear infections. Once I stopped the milk, the infections went away TOTALLY.

The only other symptoms he has had are moodiness, and an inability to concentrate for long periods of time. He also has problems learning to read. Does great in Math though.

Is that enough to really get him tested (other than the fact that he's my son)? I'd like to catch it early so that he doesn't have unnecessary problems.

    Thanks!!

  11. When I was bedridden because of celiac and gastroparesis (among other things, but I won't bore you).....my hair started falling out, and now it's really not growing. If you saw me, you wouldn't think I had any hair problems....it's pretty thick (although not as much as before), and below my shoulders. But....it use to grow like CRAZY, and now it takes me a year to get three or four inches. It's frustrating, especially since I'm trying to grow it out. I am assuming this is due to lack of nutrition. Has anyone else had minimal hair growth? Any supplements that would help it grow quicker?

Hope that doesn't sound too vain, but I really just want it to grow so that I can have long hair again. I should have never cut it. :(

  12. 1. It makes me feel better!!!!!! (That's #1 for a reason!) :D

    2. I learned how to make rice bread, and it's fun to have everyone taste it and get the "oohs" and "ahhs".

    3. It makes me feel better.

    4. I discovered Pamela's chocolate cocholate chip cookies.

    5. I now have a legitmate diagnosis, instead of telling people I'm sicker than a dog, and them not believing a word of it (due to not knowing what is wrong).

    6. I'm in a good mood, for the first time in at least a decade.

    7. I get to read celiac3270's posts. (celiac3270, I thought you were at least 35 years old by all that wisdom revealed in your posts!!) ;)

    8. It makes me feel better.

    9. I am no longer a slave to breads and pastas.

    10. Did I mention it makes me feel better?

  13. Oh yummy....I love chocolate covered cherries! I wonder what they use instead of sugar though, because I'm not that crazy about ingesting a bunch of artificial sweeteners either. Thank you for the website, I'll definitely check it out. My doc actually put me on the blood sugar stabilizer because of polycystic ovary syndrome. Seems as though they're having great results with the insulin meds curing the ovarian cysts (odd, huh?). Well...when he put me on that, my stomach started getting better - MUCH better. I'm not even on my acid reducer anymore, which is something I thought would NEVER happen. Guess all this stuff is intertwined somehow. I have diabetes in my family, and wouldn't doubt that I'm borderline, although I've never been tested. I don't see a reason to test myself.....if going sugar free takes care of the problem, that's as good as a positive test result to me.

I'm with you.....hopefully it will be short term. ;)

  14. I am thinking about going sugar free. Why? Well, it's certainly not because I want to!!!!! But....seems like I do really awful on it. My doc has me on some meds for insulin resistance, and it does help stabalize my blood sugar, but....well....I get a yucky acid feeling in my tummy when I eat it. Problem is....I NEED CHOCOLATE!!! Anyway, how many of your are sugar free in addition to gluten free? Did you feel it made any difference in your health? And....what kind of things do you eat when you have a sweet tooth? Is there such a thing as sugar free chocolate (that actually tastes GOOD)? Any suggestions on what to eat that is sugar free are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Brenda :)

  15. BURDEE,

Yes, he know's I'm celiac. He's the one that diagnosed me. My guess is that he told the nurse that I was, and the nurse is who goofed....or maybe she just doesn't understand celiac well enough. I will definitely have them check it out before I pop a single pill in my mouth. :o

They're not a prescription....they are a supplement that he often uses for women. It's like a multi-vitamin. But only doctors can get their hands on them. My doc is an M.D. but focuses a lot on the natural treatments. He's got a lot of training in naturopathic medicine. Kind of an odd combination.....but he's extremely helpful. And I can get naturopathic advice, while my insurance still pays for it. :D

THanks for the response. I'll check it out!
