  1. I specifically asked her and she said she would give me every test?? Which tests should they be then? TracyB
  2. Hi everyone, Doctor appt. went well - it went better than I expected. I think she is skeptical that I have celiac but was not at all unwilling to have me checked for it. The test she has requisitioned is: Immunoglobulins Quantitative (IgG, IgA, IgM). She has also requested TSH for thyroid, ALT (liver), Creatinine, Ferritin, Iron and TIBC along with...
  3. Hi Sue - funny you're in Calgary too! I did see my doctor yesterday and she was great - I think she feels I may not be celiac (which is fine by me!) but was willing to have me tested all the same. From what I found out, even if the bloods come back negative, a biopsy can still be done based on clinical evidence. I had a feeling I'd be waiting a...
  4. Hi Angela - I'm new here too and have just obtained blood reqs yesterday. It took me a while to get my nerve up to ask to be tested for celiac but it went o.k. I think she doesn't think I have it, and that would be great if I don't but I needed to know for my children more than anything. I too am more on the overweight than underweight side. This...
  5. Hi Mom2Twins, I'm in Calgary - I hope to be seeing my Dr. today - can phone at 9:00 for same day appts. - I posted earlier regarding this appt. today and how to go about asking for the testing. I've had IBS (apparently) since 3 years old - and this is probably the 3rd time I've revisited the celiac possibility. I've also poo-poo'ed it because I'm not...
  6. Hi everyone, I've read a bit here that the blood panel is not very reliable. So what do I do should my Dr. agree to a blood panel but it comes back negative for celiac? I wonder, will she be aware that it can be a false negative? Is the biopsy pretty invasive? I've also read that when the biopsy is done it is preferable to take 5-6 samples due to...
  7. Shay and Missy's Mom - thanks for your replies. I will make a call this afternoon to my doctor. I did find some reputable sites for medical documentation so I'll print those out to show her should I meet with any opposition. She is an excellent doctor and has never poo-poo'ed me before - but I do have this faint memory of a past conversation with her about...
  8. I agree with ShayFL - it sounds like the doctors are doing things for you but not hitting the target yet. After the biopsy you may want to go gluten-free as you have nothing to lose. Good luck to you and I hope you find out what's going on - some of your symptoms sound like Fibromyalgia - I work with somebody who had similar to you and she couldn't get...
  9. I was talking to my DH last night regarding the possibility of celiac. He has told me many times that I ought to get checked and he can't for the life of him understand why I haven't/won't. The only way I could explain it to him is this: I was hospitalized at age 3 with extreme abdominal pain - they didn't find the cause and so diagnosed "nervous stomach...
  10. I'm only going to comment based on my own fears - if you can call it that! I'm a mom and have 3 kids. For me, a proper diagnosis would be easier because it would alleviate any doubt about whether any of my kids have gotten a bad gene from me (in this case the celiac gene). That's my main drive right now - I'm extremely worried about my son at the moment...
  11. I've added this link for you - it's an article by a teacher living in my city who has written some great articles on celiac and it's impact on a person that exhibit different sorts of symptoms - like ADD/ADHD. My son was diagnosed with ADD/Inattentive Type about a year or so ago. He is on meds and due to my angst over this, I am trying to make sure there...
  12. Any idea why? TracyB
  13. Hi all - first of all - thanks to everyone for helping me with my 1st post - it really helped! I posted this "somewhere"??? I'm not sure what happened - LOL - but this article may be floating around elsewhere on the site....! I found this article among others by the same author - he happens to live and teach in my city which was kind of cool to find...
  14. Hi everyone, Firstly, I really appreciate everybody's help - you've all given me a new will to investigate how I feel. I believe I have lived this way all my life and so am used to it. But at times, it gets really bad and I end up looking further into it. I found this article, among others this man writes, and it so happens he lives and teaches...
  15. I looked up a lab locally and the range they state is .2-6.0 TSH - still not even close to what was in the article you sent!
  16. I checked the site - interesting. You mentioned the "new" TSH ranges - where do I find those and who sets the ranges? Thanks!
  17. Thanks CathyM - I have heard of the book Eat Right 4 your Type - I will pick it up. I have had my thyroid tested before - everything is fine there thank goodness. What you said about storing fat from foods you are intolerant too makes sense. It goes against normal thinking though doesn't it? It would certainly support the way celiac is known to work now...
  18. Hi everybody - I've only read a few topics here but am a bit stunned by some of the information. I was diagnosed with IBS at age 3 (hospitalized). Of course, at the time they called it "nervous stomach", then "spastic colon" and now IBS. What amazed me was that after a lifetime of feeling unwell, and chronic diarrhea as well as years of constipation...
