I have a question for the people writing about having swollen intestines. For about 5 months I have a part of my intestine that rises up out of my stomach, only when I lay down at night. I went to the dr thinking it was a hernia but they said it wouldn't come out when you lay down, it would fall back into place if it was a hernia. They sent me for a CAT scan and it came back that they could see it happening and that it may be due to no inner-abdominal fat. They told me to do sit-ups to make the muscles in that area stronger and maybe it wouldn't keep happening. I'm wondering now if it's a swollen intestine which I had never heard of before. It happens almost every night. It's about 3 inches long and rises up about an inch. It's really weird but doesn't hurt or anything. I went to the Celiac Disease Center in Manhattan and mentioned it there and they asked Dr. Green but he had never heard of it. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm newly diagnosed and I know they say Celiacs don't absorb vitamins from food, but I'm wondering if that doesn't also apply to actual vitamins? I see a lot of people on the forum saying which vitamins they take so I assume we don't absorb the vitamins from foods but we do from actual vitamins? This forum has been so helpful since I found out. I'm still in the process of finding out everything that's wrong, just had the bone density test and was told my results were low and that I had to contact my doctor to fing out what to do now. But I was thinking if she says to take a calcium supplement or some medication, will I absorb it? Thanks in advance.

I was just reading a list of gluten-free medicines and my pill was on it, Aviane. Like the previous posters said, you should ask your doctor. Good Luck!

Hello, My daughter has recently had positive blood tests for coeliacs. But we havent started the gluten-free diet yet as we have to wait to have the gastroscopy. Do we need to look into gluten free makeup as well? Does it get absorbed through the skin? I wouldn't have thought it would have mattered? Please advise?
Thanks
Jacqui
I am also new to all this, having just been diagnosed last week. I was wondering the same thing about makeup and shampoo as I see on the forums a lot of people talking about using special products. Is it because it is absorbed or do some celiac's have a skin reaction? Thanks!

Stress can DEFINITELY cause symptoms to flare up. I hadn't eaten anything containing gluten but my stomach was KILLING me. Then I realized it was because the boss of my company was coming in for a visit and I was nervous. The whole week before he showed up my stomach was killing me. Once he was gone I was back to normal.
