  1. I don't know if I'm happy or sad. My biopsy came back negative. Combined with the fact that I do not have either of the genes, I'm assuming I do not have celiac. Still confused because when I went gluten-free, I felt sooo good the first week, then moderatly good for 2 more weeks with the pain creeping back in. Also in that time my cholesterol finally went...
  2. I had the biopsy done Friday afternoon and ever since I get these odd pains in my upper abdomen - like right between and just under my ribs. It occurs mostly when I eat a normal sized meal - small snacks do not trigger it. I also get pretty bad nausea and I'm not prone to nausea normally. The pain feels like something is stuck in there. I do not have reflux...
  3. While I hope you get some answers and some relief I sure hope you don't have celiac disease! Good luck.
  4. I went ahead and stuck with this guy. They put me on a cancellation list and I had it done this AM. He was actually really nice and reassuring when he saw I was scared. It went fine despite my fears - I remember nothing!! So at least its over.
  5. Doc had a cancellation and so I didn't have to wait till Feb - yay!! I was scared but the Doc was good at reassuring me and I don't remember a thing about the procedure. Now my question - is it normal for them to not see anything if you have celiac? The waiting for pathology is gonna drive me nuts :-( He said if it's negative, I will know by Wed or so if...
  6. Finally had my appointment with the GI today and have an upper GI with biopsy scheduled for Feb4th at 5:30 P.M. I'm not feeling this place and just wanted to get a feel for how "normal" this is. I didn't see the Doc at all, didn't even meet him. We watched a video (from 1980) and when it was over I asked questions to the lady behind the desk. 1) how many...
  7. I always have questioned the scratch tests. My son has sever allergies when he was young and we had the scratch test done maybe 15 years ago. He tested highly positive to birds. I had an African Grey Parrot I had raised from a chick, hand fed and it was my baby. The Doc told me the bird had to go. I re-homed my bird and my son was still sick. In fact, he...
  8. I saw an "allergist" today who specializes in and HAS celiac. She says best case scenario I have a bad gluten sensitivity, maybe even celiac. She said my genes alone cannot rule out celiac. So - she has ordered a biopsy and a full celiac panel.I will know Monday when it is. Fedora - my symptoms are - PAIN (LOTS of it) in mostly back and left hip but...
  9. It does help but now I'm even more confused. I was *SURE* I had celiac disease but the genetics say otherwise. So why would a non-celiac's LOW cholesterol finally go up after going gluten-free? I just don't understand......
  10. I just got my genetic test in and I am very confused. Can somone explain this to me in English? HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0501 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0604 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 1,1 (Subtype 5,6) So if hubby is reading this right, I do not possess the gene for celiac. Am I in the clear then and just...
  11. Just kinda learning still but I have a question - it is suggested you get children tested if you are positive yes? How did you guys go about? Were the pediatricians helpful? It seems so many Doc's are clueless on this disease, just wondering what the experiences are like of getting kids screened with a positive family member? Thanks Amy
  12. Maybe I am misunderstanding things or I wasn't clear in my post. One of the main reasons I even suspected celiac disease was because of my freakishly LOW cholesterol. No Doc could explain it and I don't lead the lifestyle to support such low numbers. In the few weeks I was gluten-free, that was the only thing that changed in my lifestyle and it brought my...
  13. Long story short I went gluten-free about 4 weeks ago with some improvements right away then symptoms returned a tad. I began to think the week of no pain was a fluke but toughed it out and had my cholesterol tested after being gluten-free for 3 weeks and 3 days. Heres the results - WAS IS Total cholesterol...
  14. I also have Hasi, DX about 4 years ago. I am on Armour - synthroid did nothing for me at all. I didn't experience side effects, I didn't experience anything! LOL! I would suggest you poke around these sites - www.realthyroidhelp.com www.stopthethyroidmadness.com It's a long process so try not to expect instant results. Hang in there! Amy
  15. So I tried this recipe and it was a good cookie but soo not like my Mom's. I tried it when the board was down and tried to do it by memory and was off on the butter amount. I used too much and saw what you said about the flattening. The problem is - the original recipe was light, buttery and you really taste the cream cheese despite the small amount. So any...
  16. Thanks for all the ideas everyone. So is it possible some symptoms were gone and then just showed up with me CC myself? I mean my pain was totally GONE, as were my GI issues. I still have symptoms left like fatigue and my fingers still feel funny. I haven't used the jars in the fridge yet as I have yet to try a gluten-free bread, so no PB or Jelly or...
  17. I don't think it's what I ate so much as what I used to make what I ate :-( I am still using the same pans, mixer, etc..... I wasn't sure gluten was my issue since I don't have an actual dx but now I'm closer to sure. I felt *SO* good :-(
  18. I don't have an official diagnosis but after tonight I may think I do for sure. Been gluten-free for 8 days - felt a massive difference already, no more D, gas, bloating, belly pain and the joint pain was GONE. BUT I seem to have CC myself. I'm not certain exactly where it came from but I was not super strict about CC since I wasn't sure gluten was my problem...
  19. Thanks for the great ideas but I'm thinking I'm not going anywhere after tonight's experience. I got glutened - by ME :-(
  20. THANKS I will have to try that. Almost sounds too easy but then again i thought the Pam's mix for pancakes was too easy till I made them tonight :-) YUMMM!!!
  21. I can give up most of my traditional Christmas cookies, except two. Well, if I can't make them gluten-free I won't make them but I will be VERY unhappy :-( I found a gluten-free recipe for what we call exploding nut balls (mexican wedding cakes) but I can't seem to find a substitute for my cream cheese cookies. They are sooo yummy!! They are made in a cookie...
  22. Today marks one week gluten-free for me. I am AMAZED by how I feel and this morning did one of two things - it confirmed just how good I feel. We have a women's coffee group that meets at the Pastors house. Every week I have had to stand up or leave early because of pain. This week, I stayed the whole time - PAIN FREE!! Praise God is all I can say..... We...
  23. I did make the chocolate chip cookies using Pamela's mix and they were yummy! I still wanna try bread but am scared to. I have some staples now that are cheap enough (since I am not working and 8 mouths to feed its tough) and with the exception of bread and the ease of which I ate before, gluten-free isn't bad yet :-) I will be glad once the money situation...
  24. I ordered the gene test today. I have had only the EMA ordered by my Doctor and it was negative but decided to try gluten-free to see if it helped. Well, 6 days later I notice a difference. So, I ordered the test to have some back-up if I get weak and want to cheat and also as more confirmation other than the positive diet response. I am also concered with...
