  1. I want to see if any one here can help me. I was diagnosed last November by a positive biopsy with the upper endoscopy. Then the blood work followed. My sister has been having some bad health issues since her husband of 40 years died last year and I suggested she get a celiac panel run. Her results are: Trans glu was 28.6 with <4 as normal. My...
  2. Actually my doctor told me I may have the sjogrens syndrom as well. I am a mouth breather anyway with major sinus issues so that doesn't help. I have my root planning scheduled for the 9th and the 16th of July. I had it done once about 6 years ago and hated it then. So I am not looking forward to it. I guess it can't hurt to at least get the gums...
  3. Just a question for anyone who has had issues with bleeding gums. I am middle aged and diagnosed November of 2008 with Celiac Disease (biopsy and blood work both). For the past year I have had issues with my gold crowns in the back of my mouth. I have five of them, three on one side and two on the other. Last year they started to bleed whenever I floss...
  4. Thanks, I appreciate the information on the eyedrops. I will check into it.
  5. My doc gave me a bone density test about four years ago (because of my age) and after I was diagnosed last year, she gave me another one....everything appeared to be okay at the time. Then the blood work on the vit D came back low. She told me to sit in the sun at least 15 minutes a day if I can and take the 50,000 units of vit D once a week. Then I...
  6. Took me a minute on that one.....thanks, I needed a laugh....
  7. Thanks for that information. My doctor had also mentioned that a couple of months back but I had forgotten about it until you wrote that. I have had dry eyes like crazy for about 6 months as well as dry mouth. I drink about 6, 17 ounce bottles of water a day, plus coffee and ice tea and juices. I go back to see her in another month and a half and I...
  8. I was diagnosed in Nov of 2008 with the endoscopy and the blood work. In the past six months I have been having bleeding gums with my gold crowns are on my teeth. The dentist has done x-rays and such and can see no problems except that I am having bleeding and irritated gums. But only where the gold crowns are. Also, upon my last visit to the eye...
  9. In regards to your son, I would take him elsewhere to get tested. I have only the DQ2 gene but they did the endoscopy on me in November of last year and I have no villi in my small intestines and all the blood work came back positive for celiac disease. So, I really think I would have him checked elsewhere. And you can make a really good pizza. There...
  10. Just so you don't feel alone, this is the place to come. I was diagnosed with Celiac in November of 2008. Seems like a life time ago. What I did to get over the frustration is just go to a restaurant and explain to the manager/chef/waitperson what my issues are as far as not being able to eat gluten. I have even called places like Red Lobster,...
  11. My doctor told me that the more you get stung, the less your body disposes of the toxins and you can have a really bad reaction to the poison in the "sting". So now I keep benadryl handy at all times.
  12. No, they appeared within the past couple of years and I am in my late fifties. I could not tolerate dairy but now I have no issues with that. It just seems like everybody is different in their reactions to all this.
  13. My husband has a persistent dry cough. His doctor told him it is the blood pressure meds he is on. Do you take any meds that may have a cough listed as a side-effect? It could be exacerbated by the gluten as well. Just a thought.
  14. Now all of a sudden this past year I became allergic to: Hair color products, bee and wasp stings, a variety of anti-biotics (tetras in particular) and now nutmeg and red dye food coloring. I was diagnosed (blood work) in November with Celiac, I have the DQ2 gene and the biopsy came back with the diagnosis of Celiac. Has this happened to anyone else...
  15. I too follow a lot of the same rules as most of the people above. I have a seperate toaster for my husband (he is NOT gluten free) and I use the toaster oven. I do not bake any items in my regular oven that has gluten in it. I have labeled all my jars of food with big "gluten-free" stickers on them. I do not want to get sick from gluten ever again...
  16. My biggest problem with my mother is her stubborness. As we speak she is home afraid to leave the house again. She has had another flare up. She takes Immodium one day and a softner the next. She insists she is not a Celiac. I keep telling her she could just be gluten sensitive. I also tell her to try to go about a week with no gluten. She won't...
  17. Hi, I did not self diagnose but I did know something major was going on with me. Every time I ate, my stomach would extend to the point I could not even sit comfortably. And be as hard as a rock. And the gas issues, OMG!!! don't even want to go there. My doctor thought it was gall bladder and sent me in for tests. Sure enough they found the GB was...
  18. I know, I have tried but she won't hear of it. She says she is too old to worry about that stuff. Sounds like a typical Mom, huh? She is in her eighties, but very fit and very healthy (except for her IBS issues). I keep telling her to try to go a week with no gluten but she still says no. My daughter will be tested soon though. She has the same...
  19. Thank you for the information. I was diagosed with Celiac Disease by two different doctors. One was a surgeon who was fixing to take my gall bladder out but wanted to do the upper GI/Endoscopy to verify and the other was my GP who did the blood work. (No gall bladder surgery) They in turn sent me to a nutrionist. After they successfully scared the beejesus...
  20. I am fairly new to being a "silly" but I have found that in the beginning here, I just buy only one or two new things each week. I continually read the labels. I have bought mostly gluten free products but then add a "regular" ketchup or mayo to my purchase. I printed out the list of safe and un-safe things and use it every time I shop.
  21. Let's just say you goofed and ate something with gluten in it. Aside from the fact that you have been doctor diagnosed with Celiac Disease and you KNOW the gastro problems, I am curious about the damage that is done to the villi? I know it begins to heal as soon as you stop eating gluten, but how long does it take to completely heal and if you should...
  22. Thanks for the help, I found a number and called them. They said all their flavored teas are gluten free. And they have some excellent teas. Still a newbie when it comes to this disease. Was diagnosed two months ago. Was done with an upper GI and the blood tests.
  23. can contain gluten. I received a box of Ashbys' teas of London for a gift. Most are flavored. How can you tell if any have gluten in them. I know flavored coffees can.
  24. I am newly diagnosed...about two months now. I am not "feeling better" or "used to it" or liking it at all. But I have a strong mindset that says I CAN and WILL do this. I do not feeling like I did before my diagnosis. I had an upper GI followed by the blood tests and was given the wonderful diagnosis of being a celiac. I went to a nutrionist and...
