  1. Very frustrated. Went for a long awaited appointment at the endrocrinologist's office. I have a postitive antibody test for Hashimoto's and most of the symptoms, but because my TSH level is only 4.31, she won't treat me! Why is it that endocrinologists are not following the reference ranges that their own organization set back in 2002? I don't understand...
  2. I'm not sure about Synthroid, but you have to be very, very careful about coming off of Zoloft. I've tapered off the drug 3 times, and it took me awhile to realize how slowly I needed to go. The last time, when I was on a gluten free diet, was the easiest, but it still took me 2 months. (No relapses yet, and its been 5 months yay!) You have to taper down...
  3. I haven't had a drink of alcohol of any sort in 20 years - another story! But I remember getting terrible headaches from red wine, and I've had allergic reactions to sulfa drugs. I'm not sure they are exaclty the same thing, but I broke out in terrible hives from taking a sulfa drug once.
  4. I also have had an itchy scalp on and off for many years. didn't know that it was related to gluten but it makes sense. Not shampooing too much seems to help when I get flakes. I've been assuming its dandruff mostly and using Head and Shoulders. Had some stress-related hair loss years ago. I think Omega 3 oils help too.
  5. Okay, thanks everybody! I guess its worth calling and telling the doc then. Maybe I can find the new guidelines on the web to back myself up. I am having a lot of the symptoms, and my mother and my aunt have it too. Oh well.
  6. Does anyone have a handle on the latest ideas about what a person's tsh levels should be? Last I heard they were saying that the old lab standards .5 to 5.0 were too broad. My tsh levels are 4.31, and up from last year, but are considered normal because the lab my GP uses has a range from like .5 to 5.40 or something. I do have some mild symptoms, but don...
  7. I have had constipation for 4 years. I started going gluten-free in March of this year and it hasn't worked yet, although I had dramatic improvement with other symptoms. Even though I eat lots of fruit and vegetables, and bake with fiber rich alternative grains like quinoa, amaranth and teff, I am still dependant on Miralax. Nothing else ever worked. I...
  8. I have been trying to be gluten-free since March 2009. I've been glutened several times accidentally that I am sure about (got symptoms), there may have been other times that I didn't detect any symptoms. No serious problems. I have said "what the hell" to foods I thought might be contaminated, out of pure hunger and little option, but not to obvious gluten...
  9. Thanks! Its kind of a "glutened" belly ache. However I'm not usually too sensitive to cross contamination, maybe I'm getting more sensitive as I go along. I wish the labelling standards were consistent.
  10. I just ate Amy's vegetarian lasagne and I have the worst stomachache. Supposedly it has rice pasta and "no gluten ingredients". I've eaten it once before with no problems. Anybody know anything about this product and what "no gluten ingredients" means? Thanks!
  11. I so hope the doctors are coming around! I'm not sure if my doctor has improved because I'm avoiding my yearly check-up. I went gluten free in March and I'm dreading being looked at with amusement when I tell him. I live in Boston which is supposedly the center for medical resources and progress, and yet about celiac I have always encountered paternalistic...
  12. I lost about 10lbs off of my small frame, but I don't feel bad and I think its mostly a good thing. I've developed a liking for baking gluten-free - muffins, cookies, quick breads, pancakes, which I think stabilizes my weight now and is very fun and satisfying. You can try looking up what your weight should be based on your height, and just make sure you...

Hi and welcome! Constipation is one my symptoms too, and truthfully, I still have it even though I started the gluten free diet a few months ago. But the bloating and gas are gone, and my waist size is actually smaller! I've actually lost about 8 or so pounds on this diet, mostly because you can't binge on baked goods and other things that happen to be around...
  14. I just tried HOL - Grain brand, and they were practically inedible. Really hard and no taste. I'm lucky I didn't crack (another) tooth! Thanks for any suggestions!
