  1. Just thought I should let you know that I found a black octagon shaped wheat cookie in my bag of Gluten free Pecan shortbread cookies. I emailed Mi Del and described the cookie to them and they confirmed that it was wheat. They told me that they use the same holding bins for the wheat and gluten free cookies and there must have been some wheat cookies still in the bin when they dumped the gluten free cookies in. They told me that they would change their bin labeling practices. I didn't feel that was good enough so I don't buy them anymore.

  2. I purchased Mi Del Pecan shortbread cookies, ate almost the whole bag, and there was a black octagon shaped cookie at the bottom of the bag. I didn't get sick that time, but I had suspected getting sick from them before. I was concerned about what the cookie was since I had never seen the cookie in their gluten free line. I emailed the company about it and described the cookie to them. They confirmed that it was a wheat cookie. They told me that the regular cookies and the gluten free cookies share the same holding bins, and the same production lines. They told me they would improve their bin labeling practices, that didn't seem like a solution to me. I decided that I would never buy Midel cookies again.

  3. there have been quite a few gluten-free items that I didn't find very tasty...but my top three worst would have to be the products that claim to be gluten free but aren't! Two of the items are on your FAVORITE LIST!

1.Midel Cookies-I used to buy them, until there was a black cookie on the bottom of my bag of Midel Pecan Cookies! I emailed the company and they confirmed it was a wheat cookie. The wheat cookies and the gluten-free cookies are made in the same facility on the same equipment. The rep from Midel told me they use the same holding bins to store the wheat cookies and the gluten free cookies in and there must have been some wheat cookies still in the bin when they dumped the gluten free cookies in. She said they decided to change their labeling practices, but they have not changed their other procedures and there is still the possibility that the same bins could be used to store the cookies in.

    2. Wellshire Farms was tested and found to contain high amounts of gluten. Google it for more info.

    3. Chili's Gluten Free Menu....not gluten free, heavy cross contamination!

    My FAVORITES....

    1. Glutino Flax Seed Multi grain bread...great whole grain bread substitute!

    2. Bakery on Main Extreme Fruit & Nut Granola-There are all kinds of nuts, excluding peanuts. I love this with yogurt!

    3. Pamela's Chocolate Chip Mini Cookies YUM!

#4-Had to include Dowd & Roger's Vanilla Bean Cake Mix-Everyone loves it, even all my gluten consuming friends and family!

I always warn people about Midel cookies. If you want, you can email the company and see if they have changed their practices yet. It has been about a year and a half since that happened.

    I hope this helps someone!

There are tons of good brands of things...alot of us had to go through many yucky things to find those good things but then you can learn from our experiences  so then you can go straight for the good things.

    My top 3 worst:

    1. Ener-G rice bread(tastes like cardboard-not that I know what cardboard tastes like  )

2.Glutino chocolate bars-I like the other 2 flavors but those are just plain nasty

    3. The version of spaghetti that nini mentioned..they were BAD

Now I'll list my top 3 favorite...well maybe more then that..there are too many for me to name so I will keep it short:

    1.Wellshire kids chicken bites-fully breaded

    2.Cybros Rice Rolls

    3.Foods By George English Muffins(cinnamon)

    4. Lays Staxx-yummm

    5.Alexia fries

    6.Envirokids cereal and bars

    7.Glutano lemon wafers

    8.Ener-G Pretzels(covered with sesame seeds)

    9. Midel cookies

    10. Kinnikinnick products and especially the chocolate glazed donuts

Tons more but I'll stop there I think everyone gets the picture...I love food :P

  4. Definitely NOT a burnt cookie. It was small black and octagon shaped. It looked like the same kind of dough that is used for an oreo type cookie, however it wasn't shaped like one. It was a bite sized, hexagon shape.

I looked on the Mi Del site, and also their parent company Panos Brands. None of their products listed look like that cookie. None of the gluten free products look like that cookie in the slightest bit.

I have emailed them and am waiting a response.

  5. Hi, I am new to this forum and I wanted to find out if anyone experienced what I did. After we ate an entire bag of Midel Pecan Gluten Free Cookies I found a black octagon shaped cookie or possibly cracker (I am pretty sure it was a cookie).

Has anyone found another kind of cookie in a Midel bag?

Has anyone seen a Midel product with a black octagon shape?

I checked out their website and did not see the product. I also looked at the Panos Brands website to see what other brands they have beside Mi Del and could not find one with that black octagon shaped cookie. The cookie was small, probably bite size.

I emailed the company and I am hoping that they reply soon so I can know what it was.

The company states on their website and on the package that they are produced in a facility that processes wheat, so I am guessing that the cookie contained wheat, as none of their gluten free products look like that cookie.

We did not have any noticeable signs of getting sick or gluten exposure.

If anyone has any information about this, please reply to this post.

    Thanks!
