  1. I recently posted something about distended bellies in children. I have Celiac and my twins carry the gene for it, but don't show antibodies currently. They had seriously distended bellies (looked pregnant), so I decided to eliminate gluten from their diet and voila - they have MUCH flatter bellies. Now I know when they've had gluten by the size of their...
  2. Thanks for your reply. I don't take any regular medications or supplements, and have checked the ones that I do take, as well as all my lipsticks and toothpaste. I order from gluten free menus whenever they are available and take pains to explain which ingredients might contain gluten when ordering in restaurants that don't have them (eg, soy sauce). The...
  3. Thanks for your reply. That's my understanding too - that they carry the gene and so could develop celiac disease later. Glad to hear another doctor has said that eliminating gluten won't necessarily make them more sensitive to gluten if they have it. My view is that since they carry the gene, it can't be good for them - and I've seen what it does to them...
  4. Udi's makes the best sandwich bread I've found. Against the Grain makes great Italian style bread.
  5. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease nearly 3 years ago - by biopsy and blood tests. Despite a strict gluten free diet, I have had persistently high celiac disease antibodies. Despite this, a second endoscopy showed that the damage to my intestines was nearly completely healed. After that second endoscopy my GI doctor mentioned that I was IGA deficient, but...
  6. I have Celiac Disease (diagnosed by biopsy and blood tests). I have had one of my identical twin boys tested for both the celiac disease gene and antibodies. He tested positive for the gene but not the antibodies (I realize the other boy should be tested for antibodies, but the gene test is not necessary as they have identical genes). Both boys are slim,...
  7. I read the label on Sudafed after I took it for a few days when I had a cold - I was getting severe stomach cramps at night so I realized I hadn't checked the label. It lists "starch" as an ingredient and this is one of those iffy ingredients a lot of sites warn against (such as "modified food starch"). I think because it doesn't clarify, that it may well...
