ARCHIVED Puffy Eyes, Fatigue, Mental Problems
Foxfire62 replied to JohnDory's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Check your iron/vitamin levels. The typical vitamins that celiacs become deficient in are iron, B12, folic acid, and vitamin D, just to name some of the main ones. But there could be others. As for your biopsy, going gluten-free could guarantee a negative results when they biopsy your duodenum. Recommend you go back on a gluten diet at least 2-4 weeks... -
ARCHIVED Follow Up Treatment/testing
Foxfire62 replied to sharkmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After dx, begin a gluten-free lifestyle. Depending on severity of damage, intolerance to other allergens and protein/fats may occur. I would recommend you have dr. run blood panels a couple times a year until healed, and at least annually after that. I would recommend another biopsy to confirm healing at least 1 year after dx. -
ARCHIVED When I'm Suppose To Feel Better
Foxfire62 replied to blancasagro's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have been on a gluten-free diet since August 2008, and I'm still not 100%. Although I am now able to tolerate yogurts, I still have some problems with lactose. I am also having problems digesting protein right now, which is causing me constipation. My intestinal damage went to severe blunting to mild blunting. I'm improving, but I'm not there yet. It... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Question
Foxfire62 replied to Raynee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do NOT go on a gluten-free diet until after your biopsy!!! Should you have celiac disease, depending on severity of damage, going on a gluten-free diet can produce inaccurate results. Stay on a gluten diet until after the procedure. -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Question
Foxfire62 replied to Raynee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know for a fact that doctors don't always take random biopsies of your intestines as a normal procedure. About 2 years before I was diagnosed, I was scoped, but he didn't even think to look for celiac disease and just checked my stomach. The only reason it was discovered I had celiac disease was because last year I mentioned that I was going to get tested... -
ARCHIVED Boyfriend Is Having Reactions...
Foxfire62 replied to leadmeastray88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He can get gene-tested, if he's that paranoid. Otherwise, remind him of the implications of having the disease and not doing anything about it. I was 45 when diagnosed, and lately, my recovery has been extremely difficult. In fact, I am hypoglycemic and need protein to cope, but I can't properly digest protein at this time because my intestines are not yet... -
ARCHIVED Kettle Chips - Labelled Gluten Free
Foxfire62 replied to NorthernElf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think I had reaction. I'm not sure. But ever since eating them, I've had health issues with my intestines. I'm staying away. Better safe than sorry. -
ARCHIVED Who Is Right?
Foxfire62 replied to talula2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Only way to know for sure is a biopsy. Only way biopsy will prove you're celiac is if you've ingested gluten. Difficult to say either way without ingesting gluten and getting tested. -
ARCHIVED Could I Have Celiac?
Foxfire62 replied to bacon pants's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Only biopsy can determine 100%. Go on a gluten diet and get a biopsy. I think you'll need to be on gluten for at least 2 weeks. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED I Have A Question About Celiac Diease....
Foxfire62 replied to Trina7020's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are so many different symptoms for celiac disease...don't just believe the typical ones. Have you had your iron levels tested? That could explain exhaustion. But the constipation could possibly do that too, because this can potentially make the intestines and heart work harder making you more tired. Get a full celiac blood panel immediately. In... -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
Foxfire62 replied to DenverJohn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're never negative with celiac disease until you've had a biopsy of your small intestine. You appear to have classic symptoms for celiac disease. That doesn't mean it is celiac disease, but you have to be biopsied to rule it out. I would recommend scheduling an appointment for this, and don't let the GI doctor tell you no! If she/he does, find one... -
ARCHIVED Mis-diagnosed Or Incomplete Diagnoses?
Foxfire62 replied to blistovmhz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow! I went through a lot too, recently, so I feel for you, especially when you're thinking you might be dying! I am suffering from constipation. Used to, my bowels moved on a regular basis. However, since becoming a celiac, they no longer do. Since celiac disease can suddenly be brought on by surgery, injury or stress, I have a feeling mine was brought... -
ARCHIVED I Need Some Advice Please!
Foxfire62 replied to Tiff's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Get checked for celiac disease as well. You might not have it, but it's worth testing for it. Be sure to have tTg and IgA levels checked as well as small intestines biopsied. Do not go gluten free until you've been tested. You could also be suffering from hormonal imbalance. You might want to go to an endocronologist if you haven't already. Also, if you... -

ARCHIVED Should I Be Here?
Foxfire62 replied to Melusine's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The most difficult thing to do is stay on a gluten diet for at least two weeks and get a blood test and then biopsied after the results of your blood test. If you are not on a gluten diet for a longer period of time, test results will be negative. If you're a celiac, having a full celiac blood panel and an intestinal biopsy are the only ways to confirm... -
ARCHIVED Cycles Of Symptoms?
Foxfire62 replied to Pivo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you're gluten-intolerant or a celiac, then it's essential to stay away from gluten. If you're occasionally still enjoying it, then it shouldn't be a wonder that you're having episodes. Depending on your sensitivty to gluten, even a crumb might affect you. If you're a woman and in her late 40s/early 50s, it could also be hormonal, or you could be hypoglycemic... -

Foxfire62 replied to Gluteneater's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't want to appear unsympathetic to you, but I kind of am. Can you imagine how your partner must feel? I can. Do you know how hard it sometimes is that you cannot enjoy the same foods everyone else can? Do you understand how different life becomes after finding out you have to follow a gluten-free diet and have to be so extremely careful, because if you... -
ARCHIVED Sort Of Confused And My Story..and Question.
Foxfire62 replied to Matt007b's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did they do a full blood panel to test for celiac disease? Did they biopsy the small intestines to look for villi atrophy? If yes, and nothing was conclusive, you could have Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, MS, or an intolerance. Probably the best thing to do is stay away from all things gluten, including anything made from wheat, barley... -
ARCHIVED Constipation/back-up
Foxfire62 replied to Foxfire62's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been to soooo many doctors, and no one can find anything. The one good thing is, since going on veggie/fruit/salad diet yesterday, I had an un-assisted BM. Not only that, but I'm feeling pretty good today. I can only hope it stays. We'll see. I'll keep it up the next few days and see what happens. Maybe my intestines just aren't healed enough yet to... -

Foxfire62 replied to Foxfire62's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Good idea to check, but when I was going through the worst of my symptoms, they checked for that. Everything came back ok. I went on my salad/veggie/fruit diet yesterday. I had an un-assisted BM this a.m. Very encouraging. Not only that, but I feel fantastic today. Could I be too happy too soon? I don't know. However, if I continue to feel better, then... -
ARCHIVED Constipation/back-up
Foxfire62 replied to Foxfire62's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
About 15 years ago, I was a vegetarian. I never felt better! Unfortunately, I began eating too one-sided and became anemic. But before I did, I felt so good. Only problem was that I was constantly having thin stools. Fast forward to now. I am trying to drink a lot of water, but when I'm backed up like this, it makes symptoms worse and puts acid or air... -
ARCHIVED Undiagnosed...my Symptoms....please Input
Foxfire62 replied to mindyandy420's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like you could potentially have celiac disease. Did a doctor adminster bloodwork that would look at your tTG IgA levels? If not, it would be recommended. Even if that comes back negative, it would behoove you to get scoped and a biopsy of your small intestines. Only this can rule out celiac disease. Should you have the biopsy done, please do not go... -
ARCHIVED Constipation/back-up
Foxfire62 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was dx w/celiac disease 8-8-08. I went on a gluten-free diet immediately and began to slowly feel better. The beginning of this year, I started feeling full. In April and May I went through various bodily reactions to being backed up/constipated until I discovered most of my problems were back-up and hormonally related. Tried different things to rid myself... -
ARCHIVED Just Tested, Been Suffering Almost A Year
Foxfire62 replied to Ms.B's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Would recommend not going on gluten-free diet quite yet. Unless your biopsy was of the duodenum and showed that your villi had no blunting, I would remain on gluten diet and get biopsy of your duodenum to rule out celiac disease. You noted that you have had CT scans as well. Did you have a CT scan of your gallbladder? If not, I would recommend. You might...
