  1. My son's celiac panel came back negative, too, but his GI specialist said that false negatives are common for children. My son actually didn't have any GI symptoms. We had issues with growth (he is so skinny he wasn't even on the charts), fatigue, pallor and for the last few months before diagnosis, attention problems in preschool. He also had enamel loss...
  2. Red Robin has a gluten free menu which has some appealing options for kids. I know how fast food may be the only option when you are traveling, so along with Wendy's, In and Out Burger (don't know if you have them out there) are also good. Order the burger "protein style" and they will wrap it in lettuce, and their fries are safe. When we are on the road...
  3. The ingredients looked fine, but that's the only product I can figure that would have glutened me. My husband is fine, and my two kids, who are Celiac, didn't eat it. Otherwise, the kids and I have eaten the same foods for the last two days. Has anyone else had a problem with them?
  4. Oh, thank you for posting! I've been on the diet for four and a half weeks now, and the first week was terrible, the next ones better, but the last few days have been really rough. I feel so much better reading the others posts, and knowing that others have gone through the ups and downs, too!
  5. Danna Korn cites in her book that 10 to 30 percent of Celiacs have a first degree relative with Celiac, so the chances are good, especially considering her symptoms. I only discovered I was after going on the gluten free diet for my son. The blood work, according to our pediatric GI specialist, is notorious for false negatives (including my son's), so you...
  6. We've been gluten-free for three weeks now, and for the last week my son has been going back and forth between being hot and cold. He used to always run a little warm, but now he'll complain he's cold on 80 degree July mornings, then complain of being hot in a very well air conditioned movie theater. He's constantly wiping his face with cool washcloths during...
  7. I feel for you. My little guy is 5, 40 inches and only 32 pounds. We've been on the diet for only a week, so I can't offer any experience, but my husband keeps expecting to see changes already when Max and I are still just going through withdrawals. Mine starts kindergarten in August as well, and it is hard to see the other boys so much bigger, but at least...
  8. We have just gone gluten free, and I realize that my huge collection of plastic cookie cutters must go, but what about the metal ones. Are they okay if they go through the dish washer? It seems like every day I find something we have to get rid of!
  9. I was advised to go 4 to 6 weeks, and some say two months. I've heard that some people see improvement right away, others take longer. As swalker said, you may want to consider other allergens as well. Between myself and my kids there are allergies intolerences to eggs, walnuts, soy and dairy as well as wheat.
  10. My 5 yo son just tested positive for a wheat allergy, and I suspect celiac is the real problem. Although he hasn't complained of GI issues (but had them when he was younger), he has many other symptoms, and I suspect his low weight (he's 32 lbs), which started our medical journey, is part of it. He was scheduled for an endoscopy in a few weeks, but I decided...
