My son is very small also (3%). He is however doing well after we recently started the gluten free diet. We became very mindful that every bite that goes into his mouth is calorie rich! I hadn't noticed a tar smell, but it was so super stinky, it could easily clear a room! Poop was a big deal with him, because it was uncomfortable for him to poop, even though he was going 4-6 times a day. We are down to twice a day, normal smelling, and no uncomfortableness with it! Whole foods carries Vanilla coconut milk from SO Delicious, which my son drinks a gallon a week of. They also carry SO Delicious dairy, soy free, coconut yogurt. The dr told me we have to do a biopsy to confirm, so the nurse called me to schedule it and told me the dr is going out of the country and we can't get the biopsy done for a month!
