  1. I just wanted to say thanks.. WE've been almost 2 weeks gluten free (STRICTLY INFORCED) and she seems to be doing well. Lot of trial and error as some of the snacks that I got as replacements (like granola bars) she doesn't like, only the junk food and I'm trying to keep her healthy and give her more fiber since whole wheat bread/cereal is out now and she...
  2. My 6 year old daughter has been gluten free for almost 2 weeks now since confirming diagnosis of celiac, even though she was asymptomatic. I have been STRICTLY inforcing the gluten free diet. My daughter has told me she doesn't eat anything at school that I don't give her and her teachers/supervisors are very careful too (she sits at the allergy table at...
  3. We started the gluten-free diet a week ago after my 6 year old was diagnosed with celiac thru bloodtest, we skipped the endoscopy and just went to the gluten-free diet which was Ok with dr. She was asymptomatic, just didn't gain any weight past 6 months. Anyway, now that we're a week into gluten-free diet, I'm finding my daughter is bouncing off the walls...
  4. I have the list of places that have gluten-free menu's - like Uno's, Outback, etc.. But I'm visiting my parents in NJ who live in cow country (it's very pretty) and their are no chains around. I checked the gluten-free websites that listed a few NICE (meaning expensive seafood/steakhouse) restaurants in the area that have gluten-free food, but nothing a ...
  5. UPDATE - the 2nd set of blood test confirm that my daughter does have celiac. I know the only TRUE way to confirm is by biopsy with the endoscopy, but our gastro dr feels it would be extremly unlikely to find nothing with her #'s being what they are. And he said even if he didn't find anything, we would have to re-do the endoscopy almost every year to constantly...
  6. First I want to say thank you to everyone who posts answers on these forums...I've been researching celiac and gluten-free diets for the past few weeks while we got things sorted out with my daughter and I've found so much helpful information - so thankyou. My6 yr old was diagnosed with Celiac via blood test (part of routine with her thyroid test -she...
  7. I'm new to celiac as my 6 yr old was just diagnosed with no symptoms too (happened to be checked by her endocrinologist). But when you mentioned she is purposely holds in her stool, it rang some bells. I had the same issue when I was a child (started around age 4 up until I was about 10). At first it was because a large/hard poop hurt to come out. My parents...
  8. Hi - I'm new to this and doing TONS of research for my 6 yr old daughter who was just diagnosed with Celiac (no symptoms though) and we are going on the gluten-free diet (I'm doing it with her for support). I had read that some medicine's contain gluten, but I'm not sure exactly what to look for/ask for, especially when it comes to prescription meds. ...
  9. Thank you for posting this this. I'm new to the gluten-free diet for my 6 year old and was dreading halloween coming because of the caramel coloring thing that I'm still not clear on, and the dusting of candy with flour...its all so overwhelming, but this board helps a lot. I'm glad she'll still get to enjoy lots of halloween, but not too much candy as...
  10. My daughter see's an endocrinologist since she was born without a thyroid, on synthroid since 1 week old. I know thyroid issues and celiac are very common together, so maybe the dr was looking out for it. My daughter complains of tummy aches everytime she has to poop, but feels better right after she goes (which is twice a day). So I guess just in case, the...
  11. I need help making a decision: I have a 6 year old daughter who just tested positive for celiac (blood work), however has NO SYMPTOMS. Her growth, development, vitamen levels, everything is fine (perfect in fact). We are re-doing the blood work just in case their was a lab error. The doctor wants to do an endoscopy to be sure, but feels based on the...

  13. My 6 year old daughter was just diagnosed with celiac based on blood tests (her endocrinologist suggested it as she has a thyroid disorder). She is symptom free - her growth has been on target since birth (she's 50% height/weight), no problems eating/digesting/pooping, no behavior problems, no development problems (she's extremly smart and outgoing). So...
  14. I'm new to this, but I hope this helps. You should have your pediatrician check your daughter's thyroid levels - TSH, T4 and T3, plus a whole thyroid panel (thyroid antibodies). I'm new to this as my daughter just was diagnosed with celiac at age 6, but has been treated for hypothryoid since birth...the symptoms you describe - constipated, weight loss...
  15. Hi..this is my first time here and I'm hoping to find as much info as the gastro dr didn't help at all, just threw papers at me, told me to read them and come back in a month with all my questions. I'll try to keep it short but give you as much info as possible. My daughter is hypothyroid and has been treated since birth, when switching to a new BETTER...
