  1. And thank you for posting the thread. I love quinoa and ate a whole bunch last night, didn't get any cramps or pain, but was alarmed to awake with diarrhea and see the quinoa floating about undigested. I have always had pretty severe grass allergies, though... so I guess I'm not surprised, but darn - one more thing to avoid.
  2. Thanks for this info! I'm about to go to Ponce PR for Thanksgiving week and was wondering what to watch out for. Luckily, I have a fluent host in my boyfriend and he knows and understands my gluten-free diet and will watch out for me. I suppose I should learn the word FLOUR in Spanish just to be safe though.
  3. Forgot to say that... after the body has healed and adjusted to the new diet, many people find that they become able to eat dairy etc again. I know soy is not dairy, but the point is that all manner of things will upset your stomach and GI tract while adjusting to gluten-free. Try not to get discouraged!   4. Increasing sensitivity seems fairly common when a gluten-free diet is first adopted. ALOT of people complain about discovering new levels of sensitivity and new "intolerances" during the first few months (and up to a year and beyond). I've been gluten-free since the end of July and am now becoming more sensitive than ever before and to new and exciting things...
  5. Oh... and I've been told to carefully look at the ingredients of ice cream as they often contain emulsifiers that are wheat-based. And chances are those dang rice cakes have malodextrin. They make me sick too. Just check the labels for everything... some common things like malodextrin and caramel coloring are derived from wheat. There is also a bunch...
  6. Cornish Game Hens that are not WILD are fed wheat and barley. I've noticed that I have reactions even to the eggs of chickens that have been fed wheat and had to go to cage free/free range eggs.
