  1. the only test that isn't messed up by going gluten free is the genetic test- however 30% of people will test positive for this adn only 1-4% will actually have or develop celiac. Unfortunately the test captures even the people who are gluten sensitve (like people with lupus and MS). However, if it comes back negative, it is 99.9 % sure you won't have a gluten...
  2. Thanks..I just read that same number/stat on the genetic testing as well...think it would make me more confused to do it actaully the more I read. Thanks for the input! I would think after 14 weeks fo this that more change would be happening...so I may reintroduce gluten and see what happens. thanks, Jennifer
  3. I also had major constipation issues when I went gluten free...I couldn't understand especially since i was eating more veggies than ever. I switched to a gluten free multi-seed bread, and also started drinking a cup of prune juice every other day and it worked! Also, the magnesium supplements help a lot too.
  4. thanks for your feedback Tiffany- Are genetic tests not accuate? I just figured if both of the genetic tests for it came out negative it would at least exclude it more... maybe I'm wrong... As far as elimination diets, I don't use soy..I guess the only thing would be dairy, but I dont' think that would cause the symptoms I am having such as the weight...
  5. Iamgf: I have had my thyroid checked a million times, and they did a spinal tap to check for MS- they put me through the ringer! My GI told me he did not think I needed to continue because I had not gained any weight but I still kept on a little longer cause I wanted to give it a good trial. My rheumatologist said it can often take longer- but when he did...
  6. Hi Tiffany, I have been super strict- following it to a T and no eating out- no lotions, no new cutting boards etc. No sauces ever- I am eating chicken and white rice and steamed veggies, and potatoes and gluten free pasta- and more veggies- I never add any sauces to anything- no soy sauce- no msg- no anything... I have not cheated even once. I follow the...
  7. I have done this diet strickt for 14 weeks now and notice little if any change. I am wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences. Most people I have heard of have some change in a couple of weeks, even if minor... My biopsies for the last 5 years or so have always been negative for celiac but my GI wanted me to try Gluten Free becuase of my...
  8. Hi- I had never heard of the Genetic testing before this site. I may ask my dr as well. I had a positive Anti gliadin test several years ago (about 4 or 5) and have had negative biopsies 4 different times- 1 each year because I also have chrons- diagnosed by biopsy. . . Doctor recently wanted me to go gluten free because I have nearly every symptom of celiac...
  9. Allison, you can only deduct if you are officially diagnosed by a doctor as having celiac- that is my understanding...so I would save your receipts and if you are officially diagnosed by the GI doc then you can deduct. Jennifer
  10. I have been gluten-free for nearly 13, going on 14 weeks, and feel very little difference if any, and i like you am getting very discouraged!! My blood test was positive a few years ago but all the biopsies the last 3 years were negative but the doc still wanted me to try. I think Im giving it another 2 weeks and calling it quits. 4 months seems like plenty...
  11. I had the same issue- at first I was going better and then I was more constipated. ..figured out that i was not getting enough fiber and bought a multigrain gluten-free bread instead and started drinking prune juice and adding lots more fluids and salads. Things are much better now in that regard. Also, I think I have noticed that i have an intolerance to...
  12. Hi- I have been doing gluten-free for 14 weeks and notice no change. My GI doc feels I would have gained weight by now and that its probably not a gluten issue and feels this is long enough of a trial, however my rheumatologist (i was diagnosed with lupus origionally) said sometimes it can take quite a while before one feels a difference. My symptoms are...
