  1. Are these killer T cells or helper T cells? Do these T cells produce the antibodies that eventually show up in the blood? I still don't understand why one can get so sick soon after eating a small amount of gluten and why it takes two months of eating gluten again to get enough antibodies for a positive blood test.
  2. So the freshly activated T cells are in the gut and it takes two months of eating gluten again for the antibodies to show up in the blood and cause a positive tTg test?
  3. I am also left handed. My teacher tried to make me do things right handed, but she gave up after a while.
  4. Just curious about how many left handed people there are here with celiac disease. There is evidence that there are more autoimmune disorders, especially bowel disorders, in left handed people. I'm not sure how to do a poll.
  5. I decided to put this in as a new topic as I am afraid it is going to get lost where it was and I would like to know if anyone here knows the answer to my question. I need this response to small amounts of gluten to make sense scientifically. I have been doing some research to see if I can understand why just a little bit of gluten could cause such a huge...
  6. I need this to make sense scientifically. I have been doing some research to see if I can understand why just a little bit of gluten could cause such a huge reaction after going gluten free when I was eating much larger amounts of gluten before. From what I have read it has to do with the immune response. The cells that produce the antibodies to gliadin...
  7. So the challenge is different from going back to my old way of eating. I loved pasta, pizza, and whole wheat bread. Do I do the challenge for just long enough to bring back the horrible diarrhea?
  8. I was eating those small amounts of gluten in the two months that I felt better because I did not think that a little bit of soy sauce or beef broth could cause problems. Now I am not sure what caused my diarrhea to come back. The GI said this is typical of post-infective IBS.
  9. Thanks everyone for the help and advice. I thought about it overnight and decided to ask my GP to order a ttgIgA and a total IgA now and not wait until doing gluten again for two weeks. It should be negative, but if it is even slightly positive that means I have celiac disease. If it is negative then I will decide whether or not to do gluten and do the...
  10. I am just totally confused right now. It seems like these doctors do not even believe there is such a thing as gluten intolerance/celiac disease. They treated me like I was a nutcase who should not have the nerve to try and diagnose herself.
  11. I had my appointment with the GI clinic today. If I had not been warned by the people on this website, I would have been shocked. You would not believe what he said or maybe you would. He is a specialist in gastroenterology and he told me I am too old to have celiac disease. I am 69. He also said that watery bowel movements are not typical of celiac...
  12. Kinnikinnick makes great pizza crusts. It is easy to add your own toppings. You have to cook it for longer and at a higher temperature than they recommend on the box. I tried the Pizza Pizza and I did not like it.
  13. What about the beef stock? The tinned ones contain gluten.
  14. I had difficulty believing that small amounts of gluten could be a problem so I would have the sauce with the concentrated beef broth and the soy sauce. I did recently buy some wheat free soy sauce and we are supposed to be using that but my husband forgot. I ate lots of gluten before - pasta, bread (I used to make my own), pizza so it did not make sense...
  15. Funny you should mention sleep. I haven't had a good night's sleep for a long time. One morning after being in the bathroom 8 times between midnight and 6 A.M I was so out of it that I think I forgot to rinse the conditioner out of my hair as it was all sticky after I dried it. I even used someone else's toothbrush. You've heard of the midnight ride of...
  16. Thanks. That's what I am waiting for, but I don't understand why it is taking so long.
  17. Thanks for the article. Someone else already recommended it. I think it was Nora. I have not been able to give it to my doctor as I have not seen him since then.
  18. I have not been able to get an appointment with a gastro. I was referred by my GP on April 30th, but I have not had a call with an appointment. My GP would not test me for celiac. He said I was too old to have it. Anyway the tests would probably be negative as I have been gluten free for six months.
  19. Why would it get better on a gluten free diet? I was great for about a month or more two months after going gluten free. No midnight diarrhea at all except it was usually still watery.
  20. So after midnight is typical of microscopic colitis and not celiac? Do you know why it happens at that time and not in the daytime?
  21. I would like to know if anyone else has a similar pattern to their diarrhea. Mine is usually at night after going to sleep. I call it a triple whammy. At midnight, or soon after, it starts and I get watery diarrhea three times within about 20 minutes. Sometimes the triple whammy is an hour or so after eating but more often around midnight. It feels like...
  22. I cannot get a new doctor. It is the Canadian health care system.
  23. I am 69. I am pretty sure it is not dairy as the only dairy I have is aged cheddar and probiotic yogurt. I probably had symptoms for years before I tried the gluten-free diet, but I did not realize what it was. I would have diarrhea after eating something but thought it was too much cheese or was too spicy. I did have a bad episode recently and I found...
  24. I posted before under the topic "wrong test for celiac?" I have had diarrhea daily for about eight months. On December 30th I started a gluten-free diet - my idea, I did not consult a doctor. There was some improvement after two weeks, real improvement after two months which lasted for a month. Then it got worse again and I saw the doctor on April 30th...
  25. Thanks for the book recommendation. I will try to find it.
