  1. Thanks for the article. It was very informative. It looks like celiac disease will not kill me. It might even make me healthier since my diet is much healthier now that I cannot eat foods containing gluten.
  2. Thank you. You just saved me the rest of my $369.00 as I was thinking of getting the genetic testing done without doing the celiac panel. There probably is no point in doing either if the gluten free diet works.
  3. I am in Ontario in an area where no one is taking new patients. They especially will not accept anyone who already has a doctor.
  4. I thought he was probably wrong, but I wanted to see what people here had to say. I cannot change doctors. This is Canada, after all.
  5. has not set their status

  6. My doctor told me this problem does not show up for the first time at my age and it occurs in much younger people. I am not sure if he meant celiac disease or gluten intolerance. I am 69 years old. I am wondering if any of you developed this problem at my age or if you were all much younger than I am when you started having problems.
  7. It's our own spice blend and it is gluten free. I wrote about going gluten free on another post - "wrong test for celiac". I would never go back to eating gluten as my diarrhea was much worse then, if you can imagine that. I am not going to have an endoscopy with a biopsy as it would probably be negative after being gluten free for so long. I have been...
  8. The halibut was made at home and it was cooked properly. In my food diary I see that I reacted to it before, but I did not clue in. I grow and dry my own thai dragon hot peppers and I use them in spaghetti sauce, pizza, etc. Lately I have had problems after eating spaghetti and pizza (gluten free of course). The common ingredient is hot peppers. My question...
  9. I have been on a gluten free diet for 4.5 months. I think I have gluten intolerance or celiac and am waiting to see the GI people. My diarrhea got better for one month but now it is back. Recently I have been keeping a record of what I eat and when the diarrhea is worse. It looks like whenever I have something with cayenne pepper in it, the diarrhea is...
  10. I am thinking that also - that there is no point in having the tests. As for other food intolerances, I don't think so. This is all so weird for me as I have never been really sick before. I never go to the doctor, I am not on any medications, and I am 69 years old. I have read that gluten intolerance can appear even at my age. I would think that all...
  11. Thanks for the advice. I went to the Enterolab website and they recommend the Gluten Sensitivity and Gene Panel Complete. The cost is $349.00 U.S. I don't think I can get the genetic testing done here as probably the health service will not do the tests, not even if I want to pay for them. I am beginning to wonder if there is any point in getting a definitive...
  12. I did the home test but I was not able to get the blood to come out of the cannula into the solution so it did not work. They did not say anything about eating gluten before the test. Essentially I am up the creek because I have been gluten free for more than four months so none of the tests are of any use. I could not go back to eating gluten again for...
  13. I have read that bacterial enzymes in yogurt partially digest the casein making it more easily absorbed. Also the lactose is broken down by the bacteria. I think I will stay with the yogurt for now because of the good bacteria and because it is quite high in protein and low in carbohydrates and fat. Anyway I originally posted to the wrong topic as I thought...
  14. I started having diarrhea mainly at night - watery, 6 or 7x a night - in October or November. At the end of December I thought it was likely that it was gluten intolerance so I started a gluten free diet then. After two weeks there were signs of improvement. After two months (end of February) there was noticable improvement and the diarrhea stopped. This...
  15. What's wrong with gluten free bread and English muffins? I thought they were made for people with celiac disease. What bread can I eat if I cannot eat gluten free bread?
  16. I eat gluten free toast with aged cheddar or gluten-free English muffins or eggs for breakfast, not much for lunch and a normal dinner - no processed foods, everything cooked from scratch - chicken, halibut, beef, rice, some vegetables, no gluten that I am aware of.
  17. I haven't added anything new to my diet. I don't eat soy or dairy except for probiotic yogurt. I don't eat oats. My diet is very limited right now as I am afraid to eat things like raw vegetables, salads, nuts, etc., as they may make the diarrhea worse. I have read that this is typical of refractory celiac disese - getting better on a gluten free diet...
  18. I'm new to this also. The same thing happened to me. I had diarrhea for about three months and then went on a gluten free diet. After two months I was great, but it only lasted for a month. Now I am still on the diet and the diarrhea has been back for over a month. I just went to the doctor and am waiting for tests.
