  1. Thanks for all the replies (and a few new recipies) 15 more minutes and I'm outta here. I survived. :-) It's more just the "can't live on autopilot" anymore that will take a little getting used to. Just grabbing wahtever is in the break room, finishing my kids snacks or sandwhiches....eating whatever is out in social situations just because its there...

    ARCHIVED Children Tested?

My children's dr told me the same thing this week since I "only have 1 of the genes -DQ2- its unlikely that they would be predisposed too"? HUH????? that is totally incorrect information. I was caught off guard when I talked with her. She says if they aren't having symptoms, no need to get tested. I have a 4 yr old and a 1 yr old. Everytime they want...
  3. Fortunately I only work 1 or 2 days a week. The past few days I've been recreating my environment at home to be safe with lots of gluten free options. I arrived at work today - my first day back since learning I have celiac disease. I got here at lunch time. First person I see is eating a huge piece of pizza...then I walk into the break room and it...
  4. Flour was floating around like free samples at costco. .... No one hardly noticed that I was eating differently thanks to their alcohol consumption All the above advice should make my next BBQ less "oh my gosh this place is a gluten bananza" shocking I'm laughing so hard....thank you!! Much needed giggles and I can totally picture it! I'm taking...
  5. I'm new here and was just diagnosed this week with Celiac. It's been 10 full months of painful symptoms. 2 visits to the ER in the middle of the night because I thought something inside me was rupturing...and 1 time I was passing out and had a temporary parylisis in my hands and feet. The paraylis went away but the peripheral neuropathy still remains ...
  6. All of these tips are sooooooooo helpful and encouraging! Too bad gluten doesn't show up on one of those black lights....you know like on 20/20 when they show you how quickly and easily you can contiminate yourself, your kitchen and your kids with salmonella when preparing bad chicken. I will definitley be on the lookout this weekend. Bday party with...
  7. So it's only been about a day that I've "offically" know it is celiac that is causing all of my painful symptoms. I am so ready to start feeling better, going gluten free will be a relief and relatively "easy" to do at home. However, it feels like we have a social situation every weekend for the next month or two. Kids bday parties, 2 family reunions...
  8. Thanks for the replies - and the good link. I just told my mom. She is thrilled I finally have an answer...but she just confessed to me she let her medical insurance lapse! ahhhhh!! So getting tested won't be as easy for her as I thought. She thinks she probably has celiac disease as well (she has a bunch of GI issues over the years) She is willing to...
  9. I was just diagnosed after about 10 months of severe symptoms and testing. (I'm actually learning that less than a year is actually considered "quick" since so many people go undiagnosed for so long). I had negative blood work but positive biopsy and positive DQ2. Since there are gentic links, my GI dr thinks family should be encouraged to be tested...
  10. I'm new here, first post....please bear with me as I learn the ropes in the forum. Not sure if I'm posting this question in the right place, but hope someone checks it out :-) Reader's Digest Version: I have not been feeling "right" since about 8 weeks after the birth of my baby (uncomplicated pregnancy and childbirth). GI issues, severe abdom. issues...
