ARCHIVED These Are The Tests That Are Offered...
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah I was betting that would be the best one. I wonder would the Celiac Disease Antibody Screen also be a good one? I know that one is missing the IgG. Isn't that the antibody that some people produce only that one and not the IgA? The cost looks a little less scary on that one vs the Celiac full panel, but then again the full panel might catch something... -
ARCHIVED These Are The Tests That Are Offered...
Nen posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am trying to figure out which blood testing to get, I talked to my doc and he doesn't directly do blood testing anymore so I would be working directly with a lab (I order the test, they draw the blood then tell me results). I hope it is ok to post this here, there are different ones offered, all blood tests: It is through requestatest .com search... -
ARCHIVED Is It Easy To Make The Connection?
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Looks like it would be a direct testing through LabCorp, and the panel tests for Deamidated gliadin IgA; tissue transglutaminase IgA; serum IgA quantitation. Does this sound good? I never know what all that means. Looks like it costs about $140 to get. -

Eh well a little more road-blocks put in the way. I guess our doc no longer draws blood in his office anymore at all so we would have to get ahold of a lab company and figure it out for the cost. -

Made the call to the docs today to find out the cost of testing, and waiting for them to get back to me! -
ARCHIVED Is It Easy To Make The Connection?
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the reply. That is the thing with me too, the symptoms are such that I can attempt to "reason them away" with such thoughts like "well of course I'm tired I work all day!" and "well I can still do stuff its not like I'm totally bedridden or anything I can drag myself through ok". Still though like you say this can just lead to a continuous putting... -
ARCHIVED Is It Easy To Make The Connection?
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you for the replies. I probably should just bite the bullet and get tested. That way I can know for (at least somewhat) sure or at least have something more to go on. Are there percentages for the accuracy of the blood test? What I mean is is the percentage of false negatives high or is it low enough that the blood test can be a somewhat reliable... -
ARCHIVED Is It Easy To Make The Connection?
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah I have been a member for awhile. I do lurk here from time to time. The thing is I'm not sure if I should just go with the gluten-free diet first, or get the nerve up to try to get tested first, which means convincing my doc. The thing is sometimes my symptoms seem to lighten up so much that they are just about not there (for very brief times like a few... -
ARCHIVED Is It Easy To Make The Connection?

I would think that if one has celiac or a gluten problem, wouldn't the symptoms come soon after ingesting the offending food? I suppose what I am getting at is, after years of eating gluten does the body just become basically "inflamed" to the point where it would be difficult to pin down gluten as a problem since you pretty much feel a base-line crappyness... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Deficiency Testing Question
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good point, I just didn't know if taking a multivitamin would mess up test results somehow, but that wouldn't make sense that it would, you know like going off gluten before taking the gluten test can mess up the results. -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Deficiency Testing Question
Nen posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am wondering, do I have to stop taking all vitamins for a time before I test for vitamin deficiency, or does it not matter? I wouldn't want to give false reading due to taking a multivitamin. Or will it show if I am deficient regardless of the multivitamin I am taking? ETA: I also am taking about 1000 IU vitamin D a day too. -

Thanks for the replies. I just keep trying different things and hope something sticks. -
I don't know if this sounds possible for something like celiac, I've been keeping a journal for about the past year. I get these phases where I feel bad (Sinus problems, near constant one sided dull head pain/pressure, achy and stiff, fatigued, odd nerve problems on same side of body as dull head pain/pressure, nausea). These phases last about a couple...

ARCHIVED Exercise Problems Related To Celiac? Awaiting Biopsy Results
Nen replied to Hollybush's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Interesting you posted this. I swear exercise NEVER gets any easier for me. I feel like its always some super uphill climb that just doesn't get easier. Years back I remember me and my dad tried running 1 mile about 3x a week for a month. It actually got EASIER for him, he was in his 50s at the time!! For me it never got easier, I always felt like crap. I... -
I am thinking I should just go ahead and try to get tested. What are the most accurate tests to get done? I would be first looking at trying for a blood test. What would be the top 2 best ones to have done?

ARCHIVED Eyes Staring Off
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have been thyroid tested recently, and it came back fine. I've also had it tested 2 other times a few years apart and those times it was good too. -
I tend to call this "zoning out", and it happens to me many times a day. Its where I'll be looking at something, then my eyes keep staring at it till it goes out of focus and I kind of "zone out" for a few seconds. I have to give my head a quick shake to snap back to and make my eyes focus again. I do not lose consciousness or anything and know whats happening...

ARCHIVED Should I Get A Blood Test At All?
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you all for the replies, it is food for thought. The kicker is that I do not have insurance already, so I could be shooting myself in the foot if it was diagnosed and I am not on insurance. Sometimes I *really* hate the USA's healthcare system, its like you are punished for being a human. That though could be a whole other thread! -
ARCHIVED Should I Get A Blood Test At All?
Nen posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have not stopped eating gluten yet. I am not sure whether I should pursue getting a blood test first, or just do the diet. My feeling unsure what to do stems from hearing of others being denied health insurance due to having a "pre-existing" condition of Celiac. Then again, in a few years pre-existing conditions might not matter (depending on what all... -
ARCHIVED Teeth Issues
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Interesting to read, I have a mouth full of fillings, and that is with decent dental care (I've stepped it up over the last year including flossing and mouth rinse). -
Those of you who are celiac, have you always been more prone to getting cavities or developing lots of plaque/tartar on the teeth? I have no clue if this might be related, or not, just wondering.

ARCHIVED How Did Your Stiff/achiness Feel?
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the info! I wonder if a simple multivitamin would help, but probably not because I've taken one before and it didn't make any noticeable difference. -

Thanks for the reply, so it wasn't gluten doing it to you? -
ARCHIVED How Did Your Stiff/achiness Feel?
Nen posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I often anymore (pretty much every day) feel somewhat stiff and achy, almost like I worked out the day before and I am mildly sore the next day. It feels kind of like that feeling, not bad or anything, just there. Its more like a constant discomfort in all my limbs/back that I want to rub away except it never goes away. I can work through it and function... -
ARCHIVED Quick Gluten Free Diet Test Question
Nen replied to Nen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hmm, so maybe it would just be easier to try to get a blood test first (while on gluten) to see? The only hang ups would be trying to convince my doc to even test for it, and if say I did manage to get the test and it came out negative then I might just be completely written off and no doc would bother to try to test again, even though they often come...
