  1. I found that if I do any soy (even soybean oil) - it will give me gas and make me sick. That includes soy oil in mayo, margarine, potatoe chips, etc. You said you ate a baked potatoe - did you use their margarine? My sister has noticed the same thing. I have to keep reminding myself that I spent the first 50 years eating gluten - it's going to take time...

  3. I used to be a big soy eater - including tvp and veggie burgers. I started getting sick a few months ago and now gluten-free for 4 weeks. I find that I can't do any soy at all without getting sick. Even mayo and potatoe chips that are cooked in soy oil. The gas is extremely bad and I get constipation. My sister is the same way - we have both noticed...
  4. The book I found at the library is: The PH Miracle - Balance Your Diet, Reclaim Your Health. It's by Robert O. Young, Ph.D. It helped me a lot to control the acid reflux. I didn't follow the diet completely for very long, but it really did help me find the foods I could eat. I got some better because it was no bread, but he says to eat veggie burgers...
  5. Hi, Just wanted to say that I also know how you feel. I was sick for 4 months not knowing what to eat. I went to baby food for a little while. I had so much pain when I ate, that I just stopped eating for a week. Doctors didn't help much. I lost 20 lbs. in that time. Every time I added wheat back to my diet, I would get worse again. I can't eat potatoes...

    Thanks, Medaka. At least it explains why I am having trouble with sugar and potatoes. Starch turns to sugar. I have really bad acid reflux and burning when I do any sugar. It gives me hope that when I stick to this very difficult thing of no gluten, that the villi will heal and maybe I can start eating some good things again. I am a vegetarian, so no...
  7. I've noticed a reaction to potatoe chips and all potatoes. I haven't been able to eat potatoes for months. So is it potatoes, or some cross contamination with the potatoe chips? I just know that I am staying away from potatoe chips after having stomach trouble shortly after eating them (tried it several times, too). And the stomach pains/bloating lasted...
  8. I am new to Celiac Disease (just a couple of weeks) so I'm learning about all of this. My question is - Do I need to stop handling the wheat straw I use in the garden and in the barn for horse bedding? Does anyone know if it can cause a problem just handling it?
