  1. Thanks, everyone! I'm right outside Philly so I didn't think it would matter as much but I guess so. My doctor said he'd call either way once he heard anything.
  2. I don't want to call and harass my doctor unnecessarily, so I thought I'd ask around here first. I had my blood work done for an antigliadan panel and thyroid levels last Friday. I know lab response times vary, but mine are usually back within two or three days. Is there something about the celiac lab that takes longer? I'm so curious what it says and how...
  3. Oh, huh. I found a new medical practice about two weeks ago when I began to suspect I may be celiac, and as it's a group practice I didn't have control over who I saw, but I noticed he was a DO and not an MD and wondered what the difference was. Now I know AND I get why he was so open to the idea of celiac and was informed. (Still hoping he ordered the...
  4. In your reading you may have seen that many people receive false negatives (20%). Are you sure a full celiac panel was run? If they didn't test your total serum level the results are inconclusive. Also, if the diet ends up working for you, I wouldn't be too concerned with a strict diagnosis. You do need to stay on a gluten diet if more testing will be...
  5. I was only gluten-lite for maybe thirty-six hours or so, inadvertently. I can assure you I've been devouring gluten like crazy otherwise.
  6. Oh! Also as soon as I mentioned I'd been on prescription antacids for a year and finally stopped taking them because they weren't working, he asked if I just had heartburn or also reflux and when I said reflux he said we're probably going to want to scope to check how the lining of your stomach and throat are holding up. I was first diagnosed with GERD...
  7. And I LOVE my new doctor's office. The whole office was very nice and super professional. The doctor I met with listened and asked questions and let me go through my list, asking about correlations and if I had noticed X or anything, treating me like I had a brain. It was lovely. I mentioned wanting to be tested for celiac and he said absolutely; said...
  8. Until you are accommodated by the disabilities office, you can make do in the dining hall, really! There should always be at least one piece of meat not doused in a sauce, and plenty of veggie sides not covered in sauces, too. Round things out with crouton-less salad and you should be okay (oil and vinegar as dressing is safe). At breakfast, eggs and fruit...

    ARCHIVED Oh Boy...

Could she have been confusing gluten and glucose? Could English not have been her first language? When I became vegetarian I jumped on anything that looked remotely ignorant but I've learned not to be so uptight about it. If someone had ANSWERED her like that, okay, but just asking the question? At least she recognizes she doesn't know.
  10. From what I have read and others have said, it's entirely possible for the blood work to show negative but the biopsy to be positive, and so far as I know the biop is the "gold standard" for diagnosing celiac, regardless of the blood work-up. If I were you I would consider myself a celiac, or at least gluten intolerant. Also it could take months for you to...
  11. I don't really have anything to add - will be watching the replies for my own appt coming up, though - but I just want to say GOOD LUCK!!!! Maybe you could ask if they'd be willing to diagnose based on the results a gluten-free trial and then a gluten challenge? I could be wrong but I think others have mentioned some will do that, if the diagnosis is...
  12. I hope you can get things figured out for her! I have been reading up on IBS and many websites (medical and general info) do say that being awakened is NOT an IBS symptom and you should definitely make sure the doctor checks for other causes. I have so much trouble falling and staying asleep because I'm so uncomfortable - wake up to TRY to go to...
  13. Thanks. I got the idea when it was suggested that I'm just a really bad vegetarian and that's why I feel sick. I mean, I AM a bad vegetarian: processed food and carbs way more than fruits and veggies. But I don't think that would account for all of my symptoms like dizziness and constipation, just the gas and lethargy, maybe. (And I can't help being suspicious...
  14. I have been paying attention to the way I feel after I eat for the past week and I've noticed a definite difference when I eat gluten-heavy meals. I'll be tired, over-full, my heartburn is worse. Sometimes it's not very noticeable but sometimes it is - like I had a sandwich and a giant brownie Saturday for dinner and was miserable all night. Today I had two...
  15. I haven't had my tests done yet, and this is probably going to sound ridiculous, but at this point I really hope I have celiac. The more I read (especially here) the more I see myself. Everything I read I'm jumping in my chair going YES! YES! That's me! Sad, isn't it? I was looking up quinoa because I had it for the first time last night - felt crummy...
