  1. I will admit that I am a bit biased on this, but it truly makes sense. I used to be a senior executive at the nation's second largest All Natural/Organic frozen foods company. With that said, make sure that you choose FROZEN organic fruits and vegetables in addition to fresh. They have a tendency to be more affordable than fresh, and you just open as needed.

I'm not recommending that you replace your fresh with frozen, it's just an option that will make your organic shopping more affordable.

PS - I have been 100% organic for more than 5 years. It's worth every cent... especially when you're savvy about how you find the deals in the store.

    Interesting......

I am doing as much organic as possible. I will buy the chicken when it goes half price due to the "Eat BY" date.

Same with the meat. I guess all fish is organic.

Another fact is just going with WHOLE FOODS. Organic if possible.

I think you guys are right on about the organic diet. Cooking is so easy and I love cooking anyway so going gluten-free if not hard for me. The fact remains that we all should eat heathy foods. Yes the cost is worth it.

Let me drop this link I found to be my wake up call.

Is frozen as good as whole foods. I mean the processing ruins the nutrients, yes no, so why eat organic frozen?

I think this woman's thoughts are unforgettable. She has changed my thinking of food.

  2. When I started getting super strict with gluten and dairy avoidance I started using a whey protein supplement from a company called Xocai. I'm not sure where you buy the stuff if you don't know someone who sells it, and I just happened to have a coworker who was always pushing these "healthy cacao" products on everyone. I was always super skeptical and hated the pyramid-like structure of the company. However, I tried the protein because I felt the usual tubs I was getting from sport nutrition stores weren't sitting well. I LOVE the product but unfortunately can't afford to keep purchasing it (I think it was about $160 for 2.5 lb). It tastes amazing, and tastes so much more natural than anything else I've tried, and I swear it helped me feel better. Just my 2 cents.

  3. Before perscribing Fosamax Drs are advised to rule out Celiac Disease. Studies have shown that it is ineffective for gluten related osteoporosis and many celiacs have reactions when they take it. Yet many Drs are still perscribing Fosamax and related meds. My Dr wanted me to take this so I told her it was not indicated, well she didn't believe me but finally she looked it up and by golly I was right.

Amazing. I was just getting back checking in and the fact that Fosamax is not indicated is hard to believe, yet I believe. LOL.

  4. Tomorrow I'll celebrate my one year gluten-free anniversary. I had eczema for years and was tiring of having bumps, splotches, blisters etc. The dermatologist would put me on pred and then Rx creams but I knew there had to be some underlying cause. Even he said "something" is causing it.

I started searching the net and discovered DH looked a lot like what I had. The puzzle pieces started coming together when I remembered the mysterious bouts of D and how my father would go days without leaving his home because of it. I also had a lot of discomfort that seemed to come and go without warning.

I decided to try going gluten-free and three days later, my husband happened to mention that the red welts on my neck were gone. Those red welts had been there for at least two years. The creams kept them under control but they never went away. I was amazed and decided to stay on the diet.

About two weeks later, we went on vacation down to the Keys and one night I decided a plate of pasta would be worth a little itchy skin. I was up all night and sick for the next two days. That seemed like proof enough for me.

Over the last year, there were times I started to think perhaps this is all in my head. This is the part of being self-diagnosed that's difficult. A firm diagnosis would eliminate these feelings. Anyway, one night I was depressed and ate a Green Giant frozen vegetable package that contained soy sauce. I also ate one spoonful of my husband's mashed potatoes and gravy. I figured it was such a small amount of gluten, I'd be fine. Oh how wrong I was! My stomach hurt all night and I felt like I had the flu for the next two days. That little indiscretion proved I'm either celiac or very gluten intolerant.

My doctor wrote on my chart that I'm gluten intolerant when I told her about my diet. She didn't seem to think testing would prove anything more than I had figured out. I was quite relieved that she didn't want to pursue it with a myriad of tests which at this point wouldn't show anything anyway.

I'm sorry this is so long. I've been lurking for almost a year and this board has been the greatest source of information and support. You'll never know just how much it has helped. There were times when I felt like a leper but when I came here, I felt at home among friends.

Cool Story. I had to tell the dr to test me. it is amazing that they are clueless.

  5. Good info Gemini. Thanks. I going to pick up some of this stuff. LOL. You saved me some research time.

Metagenics Cal Matrix, which are calcium supplements. I take the recommended dose of 1500 mg. per day. I also use their Vitamin D3 called D3 1000 and I take 2000 mg per day. I also include magnesium glycinate chelate tabs and usually take 1 per day at 300 mg. I follow the recommended amounts for optimal results but some people may have to take differing

doses. I got these from my doctor.

  6. I saw this link on Facebook. I really wonder if anyone else has seen it? This Dr Osborne has some revelations I have never read or heard in relation to Gluten.

He states that all grain has gluten and is harmful. Is he right? Here is the link...

Does anyone have an idea if he is on the something?

    Boyd

  7. Gemini,

Thank you very much for the input. You mentioned that you take a big dose of supplements. May I ask which? I am 59 about 155#. I have read everywhere that weights and exercise is helpful. I am under motivated with working out. Just lazy maybe. I used to rollerblade every day, this was before I was nailed with an onslaught of celiac disease symptoms. Now it is winter. I plan on getting back into form this spring. This whole celiac disease experience has been life changing for me, in every sense of the word.

Soon i am heading to Utah for Snowboarding soon.

I was wondering how bad my osteopenia is, all I have is the fact that I have it. I wonder how bad it is? I am now very heathy. I see many great new foods to eat, Whole Foods!

    Organic everything, lol.

    Good luck to you too.

    Gemini.

Let's all pray for Gabrielle Giffords, and all the injured In Az. How terrible! Somehow she seems to be recovering.

  8. I tried to take this for my osteopenia but I felt flu like, and generally bad. When I started to read about the drug there are all kinds of serious side effects so I stopped taking it.

    Any opinions?

I am taking Jarrow Formula Bone Up instead and have no SE's with this. It lists as such

    Contains soy.

No wheat, no gluten, no dairy, no egg, no fish/shellfish, no peanuts/tree nuts.

All of these seem like everything I have read here that a person with celiac should supplement their diet with.

    What do you think?

  9. Osteopaenia. I have that, too (in mid 50s). No doubt due to my long undiagnosed celiac disease and resultant inability to absorb calcium.

My doc also prescribed Vit D, along with higher dosages of Calcium. Fortunately, 10 months down the road, I saw an endocrinologist at the advice of a friend and the first thing she did was check my Vitamin D levels. They were SO below normal, in spite of the fact that I was taking supplements. I'd recommend your doc run blood test to check your D levels. They are crucial in the body's ability to absorb Vit C.

Just FYI, worth checking. (I now take prescription Vit D 50,000 i.u. once weekly- took 3 months of that level to get me into normal range.)

I have Osteopaenia. Same reasons as you. My dr gave me Fosamax which I took for a month and stopped as I thought I four pills were enough. The Dr never said I should continue after that, lol.

I restarted and had side effects. I felt flu like, had the runs, my joints were sore, and I felt tired out. Needlss to say I called them and they said to try it again since I the first time I didn't notice any SE's. Jerks. Well I now read some of the posts here and you all just confirmed my thinking that Fosamax is not a safe drug.

What is a endocrinologist. The nurse there did say I would be better seeing one for better answers.

    Thanks Boyd

  10. Yes I am constantly eating at work. All I do is want to eat. I do however feel full after eating lunch at work.

I eat so much for lunch..

One recipe that I will share that is guaranteed to fill you up is Frank and beans.

I use the gluten feed bratwurst.I used six of them.

You have to really cook it down much more than she says. Also gluten-free beer.

It is so good too, very spicy.

    ;)

  11. D war stories...

Thar reminds me of one of the delays in my DX. I had some kind of intestinal parasite confirmed with a stool check.

I took some med for it and the D just got worse and then never went away.

OMG... what is wrong with doctors blindness to celiac disease. I told them that I always have D for years.

I had some organic Champagne on Sat night, It is always advisable, however, to consult with the manufacture to make sure that the wine does not contain glutinous additives or if it was stored in barrels that were not shared with glutinous product. This is rare, but if uncomfortable, it better to be safe than sorry.

Yicks did I explode the next day. LOL. Wonder why now?

I think I better take Beano before some foods. I did have some spicy rice with a ........aaaaaaaaaaaaa...creamy sauce, Dairy relief where were you.

  13. You may be depressed. I have had two bouts of depression,

Feeling unmotivated, and being tired are two symptoms.

And celiac disease can cause depression and a multitude of other MI like symptoms. You may want to also check for thyroid malfunction. That can make you feel that way too.

    BBT

  14. I used to react to soy, dairy, and shellfish and I can eat all those foods now.

Good luck, and don't be too upset about the diagnosis. You may have found the root cause of a lot of your health problems.

    Hello Skylark.

It is very possible. I am usually very allergic to shellfish. I can eat a a few shrimp. Crab and lobster have always been off limits.

Usually if I eat any amount of shrimp I get a medium head ache. I had a half pound last weak and found I felt

very little discomfort. I even had Alaskan king crab, no trouble at all.

I am not sure but I was thinking the same as you.

  15. I guess you'll have to figure out if it's the alcohol or the people who are more important in your life. ?

Yes ppl are more important. I seldom drink when with company now that I know I become another personality.

You are aware of the mood swings. I can be funny, aggressive, very energetic and a very dangerous driver,or alive with mania.I tend to like the mania.

I can also get very sad and show sign of true depression.

I never know what the cat will bring home.

    Boyd

  16.

I think I am trying to be very careful with drinking. There is definitely a fine line. If I am home alone I will tend to get on the internet and write and sip a few Martinis.

Next thing I know I am sound asleep on the couch and it's 3am.

I am glad to hear it does cause anger outbursts, rather than me just being an angry person, which I am not.

Interesting point about the possibility of going med free.

It really gets me upset that docs ignore a the root cause of celiac disease. How many people suffer MI, RA, insane moods plus so much more when a simple blood test could be the DX to the cure.
