ARCHIVED What To Do About Breakfast On Vacations
Bonnie replied to Aprildncr's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Sandra, I have just bought polenta and have NO clue how to make it. Please tell me - especially the microwave way!! -
I'm exactly the same Sandra! I have absolutely no imagination when it comes to cooking. Probably why most of this healthy stuff tastes like cardboard - it's the way I'm cooking it!
-
Thanks Sandra, I will definitely try that. Breakfast is always a problem. Its always good to have a nice filling breakfast. This is one thing I enjoy about this diet of ours, trying all the new things!

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone else just knows while they are eating something thats it contains gluten. Before you have any symptoms I mean. I went shopping on Sunday and was starving. I have to eat or I start feeling really weak. Went to a restaurant and could not find one thing on the menu I could have. After about 20 minutes of searching...

Hi guys, Apart from having celiac disease (4 months dx) just had it confirmed I am intolerant to rice (white, brown, wild, basmati), seeds, nuts, chocolate, alcohol and sucrose. I had more or less gotten a handle on avoiding gluten, now this. In trying to find a substitute for rice, I have tried millet. Its a bit bland but I'm sure I can do more...

Hi Kathy, My mother developed lupus about 15 years ago. They managed to diagnose that quite quickly but couldn't diagnose her chronic diarrhoea, weightloss, etc. etc. She is 55 years old and weighs 38 kgs (83 pounds). She has been tested for everything under the sun EXCEPT Celiac Disease. She has now lost her hearing, her organs are failing, she is...

Hi Evonneda, I am SCOTTISH too although I am living in South Africa at the moment! Got all excited to see another Scottish person with my problems. I also don't know a single person with celiac disease. It must be really difficult for you over there as the eating habits in Scotland are incredibly unhealthy. I struggled to eat healthily at all...

Hi Melhopkins, I have been gluten-free for 3 months. I believe I had 'withdrawal symptoms' at the beginning. I also got cramps, then muscle pain in my arms and legs, swelling of the glands in my throat - all sorts of strange things. BUT it all clears up after a while. I too lost weight the first few weeks but then I started picking up again ...

Thanks for taking the time to reply everyone. I will just try and avoid processed sugar and rice for the time being. Probably a really good thing as I am eating too much rubbish to make up for missing out on bread etc.! Never had a sweet tooth till I found out about my gluten problem not I'm like a cookie monster!! Have a great day and weekend!

Hi guys, I have been reading another current thread about sugar but I have a few questions. I have been gluten-free for 3 months and am feeling soooo much better, however, I am having problems with rice - bad bloating. Also I have noticed whenever I eat chocolate, sweets or potato chips/crisps I get really bad bloating. I assume its the sugar affecting...

Hi Sue, I am convinced I have it but haven't bothered to get tested. I developed very dry eyes about 3 years ago - so much so that I can't wear contact lenses anymore. I also have a lump in my salivary gland which I can feel - developed around the same time as the dry eyes. My nutritionist also thinks I have it, and this may be a factor in my chronic...

Sue, so glad you asked that! I have been wondering the same thing. Also been gluten-free 11 weeks. Still chronically constipated and when I do go (with help) - still floaters! Does this ever change?

ARCHIVED Could This Be Why
Bonnie replied to anerissara's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Anerissara, I too feel bloated, crampy and so irritable I feel like I'm going to KILL someone today! Been gluten-free for 9 weeks. Overall feeling a bit better but this bloating is really getting me down. But I too have the alcohol thing. One glass of wine and I'm really tipsy, start having a hangover while I'm drinking. But my irritability goes... -
ARCHIVED Hvp & Make-up
Bonnie replied to Bonnie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ha ha - I never knew that and been using Almay for years. I will search further. Thanks so much for trying for me anyway! Appreciate it. Have a great day. -
Hi Shirley, I can get Glutano products but its a bit of a mission and so expensive. The crackerbread and biscuits are easily available though. Oh and I found some Envirokidz flakes - divine! I just read the forum and drool over the donuts and stuff you guys can get! Yvonne

Thanks a lot Donna! I think I keep needing confirmation right now that I DEFINITELY do have a problem with gluten! Silly I know, but it's taking a while to sink in. Thanks again.

Is there NOBODY from my neck of the woods? I live in Durban, South Africa. Needless to say I can't get any of the products you guys discuss!

I am very curious to know if someone has been off gluten for a while and then ingests - if this person is NOT gluten intolerant - would they still react? Does anyone know?

ARCHIVED Left Sided Pain, Low Back Ache?
Bonnie replied to mjbonsais's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My pains are always on the left side, feels like just under my ribs - sharp pains like a poking stick. Usually after being glutened! No back pain though, pain in legs and arms. -

ARCHIVED Hvp & Make-up
Bonnie replied to Bonnie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks a lot everyone for the replies. Kaiti, I haven't seen CoverGirl anywhere here. I think Maybelline is my best bet. I will try and find a way to contact them for info. We also have Este Lauder but it's a bit pricey. Jenvan thanks a lot for finding out from the companies, really appreciate it. In the meantime I'll check out that link on chapstick... -
Hi Kirsti, Your symptoms are exactly the same as mine! I live in South Africa so although language is not a problem - gluten is a word no-one here has ever heard of. I have been gluten-free for 7 weeks now and am very slowly starting to feel a bit better. The bloating has calmed down a bit but not completely. I have good days and really bad days...

Hi guys, Is Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein safe for us or not? Confused about this one! Also, I live in South Africa, and am having a real problem sourcing gluten-free make-up. Most of our products here are imported so there is no way for me to check in this country. I feel like I need to change my lipstick urgently - noticed I lick it a lot!! Also...

Hi guys, Well this thread is quite depressing for me, being a Newbie. I thought I was going to eventually feel almost normal. I'm not expecting overnight success but a lot of you guys who have been gluten-free a long time still seem to have more bad days that I expected! Aaagh! Feeling a definite 1 now after about 7 weeks gluten-free. Yvonne

ARCHIVED Do You Feel Worse Before You Get Better?
Bonnie replied to MySonElliot's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I have been gluten-free for about 6 weeks. The first week I thought I was feeling a lot better but have gone downhill since then. Past two weeks been feeling rotten. My bloating has also improved quite a lot. Still get a bit bloated at night but nothing like it was. Other than that though I am really tired, still having headaches, really bad...
