    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

  2. Thanks for the advice guys, Looking at IBS that way makes it a little clearer that I need to make myself the pushy girlfriend this one time, just in case. I know he hasn't really gotten worse but has definitely not gotten any better. A few little blood tests couldn't be that bad. It could also be some other food intolerance (lactose/fructose...
  3. Haha! My wonderfully supportive boyfriend had brought me a box of Gluten-free, dairy-free cookies (that actually didn't taste like sugared paste) from the health food store after going out of town. I like to heat one up in the microwave when I am having a rough day. I was munching on one last week when my roommate can home and stopped in her tracks, looked...
  4. Magdalena, I know the string of topics is going somewhere else, but I wanted to comment on the B-vitamin thing. I've just recently been diagnosed, but my doctor is a celiac disease specialist and actually has the disease himself. One of my worst symptoms was the brainfog. I am an artist/writer, and I couldn't concentrate to read more than a page...

    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

Oh, that irks me too!! I had a co-worker actually say to me that she wished she could get celiac disease for a little while just to slim down. I felt like screaming at her that you can see my ribs only because my body is not absorbing nutrients thanks to the evil grain. Then adding, oh, by the way, have you noticed how much work I miss, that's not vacation...
  6. Sheila, I know how you feel. I was diagnosed with celiac disease about a month or so ago. It was easy at first because I felt that finally I had a chance to feel better. Now, I'm still feeling the same, so it's harder to keep the resolve to be gluten-free strong. For me, I feel like I crave things that I never even liked before I got diagnosed, like...
  7. I have a question about this IBS vs. celiac disease debate. I was daignosed a month or so ago with celiac disease. I was definitely on the C side. My boyfriend was diagnosed years ago with IBS and is D all the time. We joke about being Jack Sprat and Ms. Sprat even though it's gross and we're both really thin. I don't really think he's really ever gotten...
  8. Louie, Your story sounds familiar...I've had kidney problems (mainly just a lot of infections) too, so when I was a teenager I really got into super healthy eating and cut out almost all salt, sugar, processed foods etc. Then I was getting really light-headed after that, and my doctor told me to start salting my food. It's funny how sometimes we...
  9. Michelle~ I think we were both diagnosed about the same time with celiac disease judging from your other posts, so I don't really have any words of wisdom. However, I have sort of been going through the same thing. When I first got diagnosed, I felt like jumping up and saying "Whee...I'm not just a hypochondriac!" Then I got bummed after reading a lot...
  10. yeah...I figured it was a dumb question when I asked it. I knew the answer, and yes, it was rice dream. I think I might just stick with almond milk for a while anyway (I pretty much just use it in cereal). Beverly- I'm not sure if everyone should stay off milk for that long. That's just what my doctor advised me. It really probably depends on your...
  11. Kaiti~ I'm not really sure what's too low, but mine has always hung around your mom's about 95/62 last time it was checked, and I usually get some response from the nurse about. I think if the first number is in the 80's they start to medicate you. I must make a disclaimer though that this is just what I *think* I remember being told. I went to...
  12. Hi all, Thanks for all the great advice. I am going back to the doctor tomorrow for a follow-up on the diagnosis and diet, etc. I think I'll ask him to try to get to the bottom of all this. I haven't written in a few days because on top of all of this I caught bronchitis (which hasn't made the dizziness any better). I had to get an IV with anibiotics...
  13. I just had a bunch of bloodwork done right before getting tested for celiac disease. I'm pretty sure that they checked for that, but I go back to the doctor this week and I'll ask him. It seems to be getting worse though. I've been falling down a lot, and the nausea/dizziness doesn't seem to change regaurdless of whether or not I've eaten (gluten-free...
  14. Thanks for the advice guys, I know it will take a long while before I start feeling better. I guess I just feel a little different since starting the gluten-free diet not necessarily better par se (and now I'm super vigilant about my body). I was hoping maybe someone would know some herbal secret or something (how we wish...). I'll try the papaya...
  15. Michelle~ Being newly diagnosed too, I'm waging the same war but with my roommates. Depending on how big your kitchen is, maybe you can negotiate a "gluten-free zone". It probably sounds a little ridiculous, but maybe you can get your familty to understand that you're really worried about contamination. Maybe bread-involving activities can be done on...
  16. Hi all, I was just diagnosed about a week or two ago. While my stomach cramps I think are already getting a little better, my nausea is getting worse! I am also getting really shaky. I keep dropping things and falling, etc. About a year ago the doctors kept treating me for vertigo (I hadn't thought to connect the frequent bathroom trips and the falling...
  17. Laurie, I was just daignosed a few days ago, too. It is a really crazy new world to figure out. I was a vegetarian before all of this, and my doctor has told me to remain off meats until my digestive track heals up. I understand being in a tight spot as far as food choices go. My doctor also told me to stay away from soy and cow dairy. too. I sort...
  18. Hi all, I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease. I am happy that the doctors finally know what is wrong with me, and there is a future ahead of me free of listlesslness and an upset digestive system. However, I start grad school in the fall. I have been trying to save up for it, but all the doctors' visits have zapped my resources. I have school...
  19. Hi, I was just diagnosed too, on the same day you posted. I'm feeling just as lost as you are in a world where everything seems to be laden with something that will make me sick. However, I did read a good book that not only helped me feel better about my new lifestyle but also had tons of good suggestions and even lists of good products, companies and...
