  1. So, the first thing I ever identified as a problem was soda. Starting about four months ago, every time I drank it I would get an upset stomach. After this happened twice, I just cut it out. Then I cut out dairy. Then, two months ago, I went gluten-free. I have gotten somewhat better since going gluten free and improving my diet all-around, but not completely...
  2. I've searched everywhere--I want to have some Van Camp's Baked Beans (Hickory and Bacon) with my lunch, but I cannot figure out if they're gluten free. I can't find any gluten-containing products on the label, but I'm still not at a point where I fully trust labels. Do any of you know? Thank you for your time! Edit: Shoot, is this in the wrong forum...
  3. That makes sense, thanks. If the bloodwork is positive, why do people still have to get the endoscopy?
  4. Thank you! Do you think I need to wait a few more months before being able to tell if gluten was affecting me if I reintroduced it?
  5. About a month and a half ago I decided I was fed up with my stomach problems and did enough research to suspect gluten intolerance/celiac's, so I decided to go gluten free. My stomach is happier (although it might just be because I eat healthier now), but I've decided I'd like to get tested so that I can know for sure. I'm worried about people thinking my...
  6. Mushroom and GottaSki, that's really interesting, thank you for letting me know. Any kind of information on the matter is helpful.
  7. Sister-in-denial... nice. I definitely have a dad in denial. I will be so happy once I just figure this all out. I can do with a restricted diet--I can even have fun with it. But NOT KNOWING is terrible. I'll survive once I just KNOW what to do to get better. Thank you guys so much for all your help and support! You are indispensable.
  8. Haha, Switchfoot is a great rock band! I didn't get to see the oscars.. too busy with a stupid biology experiment BUT I JUST FOUND OUT MY COUSIN IS GLUTEN-SENSITIVE! I am very excited about this because I have high suspicions that my dad's entire side of the family has gluten issues and that would mean that gluten is probably my problem too (I have not...
  9. That's interesting, thank you for letting me know. I can definitely see how it would work out that way. And yes, they are absolutely fantastic.
  10. Aww! I can empathize. Every single one of my problems began two years ago when I started taking antibiotics for my acne. I will never stop regretting that--it screwed up my gut so bad. I remember back when I thought my stomach would get better on its own after quitting them...
  11. If I may ask, GottaSki--what did your problem end up being? Oh, nevermind, I just read your signature. Did your gas actually get worse after going gluten-free? At first, I mean. By the way, love the Switchfoot reference, I am actually listening to them right now.
  12. That makes perfect sense. I will try to test things more thoroughly in isolation in the future. I have to admit that I am terrified to think I might have to avoid nightshades/something else though. I have somehow been able to bear life without wheat and dairy, but potatoes and tomatoes too? Or corn?! Gahh. I can't imagine what I would eat besides rice. ...
  13. Yes, they are. Thank you for the advice, it's encouraging to know that I still have a chance of gluten/dairy being my only problem...
  14. Thank you for the reply! I agree--isolating very specific ingredients is important. I used to drink a lot of straight milk and have problems so I am pretty solid on that. Mostly my problem is gas, so it's harder to gauge in terms of reactions. It's like, if you have D after eating something specific then you have a pretty good idea that it is a problem...
  15. After being gluten and dairy free (and eating almost only unprocessed whole foods, AND taking a probiotic every day) for a month but still experiencing some stomach issues, I am trying to investigate whether I am possibly sensitive to nightshades or something else. I have tested for corn somewhat and I don't think that is it. I have a question--is it possible...
  16. IrishHeart - Thank you. I really appreciate your advice and encouragement. Mom-of-Two - Ahh, yes, honestly that's almost an encouragement to me (the fact that it takes up to three months) because I was getting worried that I should have been getting better by now. That's very interesting, I hope everything goes okay with your gallbladder. I am as careful...
  17. I do indeed! I haven't really noticed a different yet but it hasn't been very long.
  18. Thanks, guys! That is super helpful. I have heard the same on caraway and ginger--I will plan on trying those.
  19. Thank you both very much. I have actually been dairy free longer than I've been gluten free because I could tell it was affecting me. I do stick to home cooked meals almost completely and keep a food journal. Thank you very much for reinforcing the fact that I am doing the right thing. I've tried to identify any other intolerance but haven't really...
  20. Thank you! I have been off gluten for a month... I am not sure if that's "new" or not. Isn't Solid Gold for pets..?
  21. Well, I've been a month off gluten and I am still experiencing excessive gas and occasional stomach upsets (although I can trace those back to potential specific causes usually), so I have been researching for possible remedies that may help with those lingering symptoms. I have read in several places that cinnamon (often along with honey) can be a natural...
  22. Wow, thank you so much, Skylark! I really appreciate it. ravenwoodglass- I have already eliminated dairy (at the same time I went gluten free) and I stopped drinking soda a long time ago (my stomach hates it). I will be careful about rice and see if I can still tolerate it. AVR1962- I thought Gas X really only treats gas in the stomach, not the intestines...
  23. Thanks, I am definitely sensitive to dairy, but I haven't tried those other foods. Honestly at this point I just want to cry. But I will try that. Is rice a grain that I would need to evaluate? I've read that it's the only starch that doesn't cause gas.
