  1. Imagine my dismay when I read that Beano apparently contains wheat. This is just great. Beano was going to be my saving grace, because I have gas after every meal and it would have been really handy to use when I am going to be around people who I DON'T want to have gas around. Have any of you ever reacted to Beano? Can you suggest a better enzyme to take...
  2. Thank you, mushroom! I haven't noticed any effects from potatoes but I will keep my eye out. ciamarie-Thanks very much, that is good advice. My probiotic is indeed gluten and dairy-free, fortunately. I will stay away from tomatoes for a while and see how things work out.
  3. I'm sorry for all my questions. I am just so tired of not knowing what I need to do to heal. Feel free to skip the next two paragraphs of detailed explanation because my questions don't really need the background, I just wanted to provide it if it's helpful at all. I started my gluten-free diet three weeks ago and at first things were going okay, but...
  4. OH MY GOSH, I MEANT A WEEK NOT A YEAR Sorry!
  5. Thanks, guys! It occurred to me that it could have been a totally normal reaction to the tomato half that I cut up over a year ago and had stored in the fridge.. it is possible bacteria was being harbored in that? Incidentally I have been eating Smithfield ham every day... are they are really cured in casein? I'm definitely not allergic to xantham gum...
  6. I am almost three weeks into my gluten-free (and casein-free) diet (in an effort to self-diagnose) and things have been going a little better, but then today I had a salad doused in Kraft Tuscan House Italian dressing, and 30 minutes later I had diarrhea. Now, I read that Kraft always explcitly states their gluten-containing ingredients on the package so...
  7. Thank you guys very much! The nuts that I eat regularly are simple, raw almonds. Now I know I should go ahead and contain using them as a snack. And thank you for the soaking instructions!
  8. Thank you, mushroom! domesticactivist- Interesting idea. Soak them in what, exactly? Just water?
  9. Hahaha... I have been doing this as well... not out loud, just inside my head.
  10. I went gluten-free (self-testing to see if it solves my chronic, unexplained stomach problems) only about a week ago and I am surviving just fine with the wonderful help of... nuts. If I need a snack, that's what I go for now. But I've seen a few people suggest that eating nuts might not be the smartest move right after going gluten-free... is that true?...
  11. mushroom - Thank you, I will take a look at that! Metoo - Thanks very much I was thinking about trying oats but I will avoid them at least until I can figure out what I am or am not sensititve. Mom-of-two -That's extremely helpful as well, thank you! I will definitely be looking into taking probiotics reguarly now.
  12. maximoo- My discomfort definitely has something to do with the antibiotics, I think, but I've consulted a nurse (the parent of a friend) who says that six months should have been long enough for my gut to recover from a loss of bacteria, so now I am seeking a different source. mushroom- Thank you so much for your extensive response. I will indeed stick...
  13. Thank you both very much! That is quite helpful and somewhat reassuring.
  14. I am a young adult who's been struggling with substantial gas/discomfort after every meal and somewhat frequent stomach upsets for about a year and a half now (I was taking the antibiotic doxycycline for the first year, and I thought my stomach problems would go away after I quit it, but it's been six months since I quit and they haven't gotten any better...
