ARCHIVED Please, Not Dairy Too!
zeeclass6 replied to zeeclass6's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
These are all very good suggestions, thank you. I have been wondering about the "low fat" nature of the cheese. I looked at the label. It is Trader Joe's Lowfat Mexican shredded cheese. It does not seem to have any gluten ingredients in it. But a long time ago, I read that when you are lactose intolerant, it's better to stick with full-fat dairy products... -
Oh damn...I think I do have a problem of some sort with dairy, corn, or beans. But it doesn't happen all the time, so I'm confused. Tonight for dinner I made a Mexican casserole dish: chicken, sweet red peppers, onion, garlic, zucchini, corn, canned jalpeno peppers (mild), gluten-free chipotle sauce, gluten-free salsa, topped with some lowfat shredded...

ARCHIVED Hypercoagulation And Gluten Sensitivity?
zeeclass6 replied to zeeclass6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ha ha, you gave me a link to my favorite website regarding Ferritin. I love STTM and participate in their facebook group. Yes, I have low Ferritin. And the other tests, which she advises to get...well, I got them and it all points to anemia. I have high TIBC, low %Saturation, etc. They call it micro"something" anemia. I need to do more research on it. On... -
ARCHIVED 3 Weeks gluten-free - Have Lost Appetite, Food Not Appealing
zeeclass6 replied to zeeclass6's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I've lost a bit of my enjoyment of cooking as well. I have purposely spent a lot of time at Whole Foods seeking out sauces, marinades, and spices to help me cook well again. I feel like the wind has been taken out of my sales regarding cooking, to some extent. I used to love to make Farro with greens, Bulgar with caramelized onions, stuff like that... -
Has anyone had good luck with a doctor in the following counties: San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Francisco, or Contra Costa? I live near San Mateo and would be willing to travel a little to a good doctor somewhere on the SF Peninsula. I have read about the clinic at Stanford, but I tested negative for Celiac. However, I have very low IGA. So I need a...

The owner of a local health food store recently told me about this doctor who is in my area. She is a naturopath who had her training mainly in France. She is not licensed as an ND in the US. I have been looking at her website and I am intrigued. She has a lot of information on her website, including this article on Celiac/gluten intolerance. Can you...

ARCHIVED Hypercoagulation And Gluten Sensitivity?
zeeclass6 replied to zeeclass6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for your encouraging reply! There were other inflammation markers on the blood tests which came back with problematic high results, too. I remember looking at all of this (the Holtorf doctor did a TON of tests) and thinking: "What the hell is going on in my body??!!" Because my body felt stiff and I was miserable. I had very painful adhesive capsulitis... -
ARCHIVED Eating Out, And Eating Abroad Or In Other Countries
zeeclass6 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I may be going to Europe at the end of March with my family. We will be going to southern France and Barcelona Spain for about a week. I have been gluten-free for 3 weeks. I probably don't have Celiac. My Celiac test was negative, but my IGA was low. As I understand it, this might mean that either I'm just gluten sensitive, or the Celiac test did not pick... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Know If I Am Lactose Intolerant?
zeeclass6 replied to wilbragirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For years I could eat yogurt just fine without a lactaid pill. Then a few years ago I started to notice symptoms afterward, so I started taking a lactaid pill with the yogurt. Then even that didn't help. I was actually surprised that the lactose-free yogurt I found at Whole Foods didn't bother me at all. What really sent my digestive system into a tailspin... -
ARCHIVED My Dr. Said "i Don't Know What Is Wrong With You"
zeeclass6 replied to chippersmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you had tests for thyroid disease and auto-immune thyroid problems? Some of the problems you describe are thyroid symptoms. Get the following tests done: TSH Total T4 Free T3 Free T4 Reverse T3 BOTH sets of Thyroid antibodies (very important) An ANA test for other auto-immune conditions would also not be a bad idea. You should also... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Negative, Low Iga, What Next?
zeeclass6 replied to zeeclass6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, you asked what symptoms led me to get the blood tests. Well, I had read in various places that if you have thyroid problems you should get tested for Celiac. I got tested 10 years ago and it was negative. I was told not to worry about it. Then last year I began to notice that my lactose intolerance seemed to be getting worse. Even if I took 2 Lactaid... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Negative, Low Iga, What Next?
zeeclass6 replied to zeeclass6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I totally agree that my first foray back into gluten should NOT be on vacation! I need to safely test it at home first, at least a few weeks before going to Europe. I would really like to get those IGG tests done, but have to figure out WHO would do them for me. Maybe I should send a fax to my GI doctor, because up to now I have been communicating... -
ARCHIVED 3 Weeks gluten-free - Have Lost Appetite, Food Not Appealing
zeeclass6 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been gluten-free for 3 weeks. About 2 weeks in, I started to notice a sharp decline in my appetite and cravings. I used to crave carbs, but I don't anymore (which is a plus, IMO). But I also seem to have totally lost my appetite, too. I eat because I'm hungry, not because some food sounds good to me or smells good or even tastes good. In fact, nothing... -
ARCHIVED Hashimotos- "normal" Levels But Major Symptoms?
zeeclass6 replied to bbdailey's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you read the book Stop The Thyroid Madness you will have a better understanding of what you need to do. They also have an excellent website and facebook group. You can also read the books by Dr. Shames or Dr. Langer. If you have antibodies, you have Hashimoto's. Your TSH needs to be around 1.0 to better supress the antibodies. Are you on Synthroid... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's And Celiac?
zeeclass6 replied to salexander421's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've had Hashimoto's for 15 years and have been gluten free for 3 weeks now on the advice of a new doctor. All the women in my family have thyroid problems and/or auto-immune problems of some sort. My 90-year-old mother was first diagnosed with Hashi 5 years ago! Her sister had Hashi and then it flipped and became Graves. None of us ever suspected... -
You can safely take 5,000 mcg of B-12 every day. Neuropathy is a symptom of B-12 deficiency. Your B-12 should be as high as possible....1,000 or more. If it is under 500 you are developing a problem. And if it is 250 or less, it is very bad. As the previous person said, take sublingual Methyl B-12. Jarrow and NOW are good brands. Put it in your mouth and...

ARCHIVED How Do I Know If I Am Lactose Intolerant?
zeeclass6 replied to wilbragirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've had lactose intolerance for 15 years. It started after my second child was born, which was also when my Hashimoto's began. When you are lactose intolerant, you will react worse to dairy products that are more milky and lower in fat. For instance, if you have a fat-free milkshake and are a huge gurgling gasbag for the next 12 hours, that's a big sign... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Negative, Low Iga, What Next?
zeeclass6 replied to zeeclass6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
OK, here is the story in a nutshell. For 15 years, I have been seeing Endocrinolgist Dr. F. She is the one who ran the Celiac panel that showed negative result and low IGA. She didn't properly understand what it meant and did not advise me to get any further testing. There are various reasons why I have decided to stop seeing Dr. F. She has missed... -
ARCHIVED Not Sure If I Have Celiac Or Gluten Sensitivity
zeeclass6 replied to Meggielynn13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you been tested for thyroid problems? And I don't just mean TSH. TSH is actually quite meaningless. You need to get: TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and BOTH sets of Thyroid antibodies. Some of the symptoms you describe are thyroid symptoms or auto-immune thyroid symptoms. Here are two great books you may want to read that will inform you about... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Negative, Low Iga, What Next?
zeeclass6 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have been gluten-free for 3 weeks at the suggestion of a new Endocrinologist I am seeing. I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I am a 51-year-old woman. My Celiac blood test came back negative, but I have very low IGA. Apparently this makes it difficult to get an accurate test result. I have been told that I need to have tests for IGG. I don't totally... -
ARCHIVED Hypercoagulation And Gluten Sensitivity?
zeeclass6 replied to zeeclass6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you for your reply. I made an appointment with a Hematologist. He will probably be able to shed light on this for me. I had read that this condition can increase risk of stokes or TIA's. Well, my elderly mother has had some TIA's and has been on blood thinners for about 5 years. Which makes me wonder if perhaps there is a genetic component to this or... -
ARCHIVED Got My Endoscopy Results And Thyroid Results
zeeclass6 replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also want to add that Armour was re-formulated in 2009 and some people find that it does not work as well for them. Those people have switched to Naturthroid or a newer generic made by Acella called NP-Thyroid. People on the Stop The Thyroid Madness Facebook group have reported that they do very well in NP-Thyroid -- as well as they used to on the "old... -

You guys need to read the following book and/or visit the website: Stop The Thyroid Madness. It will explain ALL of this to you very well!! I have had Hashimoto's for 15 years. NO DOCTOR ever told me to stop eating gluten because I had an auto-immune disease until just recently!!! I have been on Synthroid for 15 years and have recently found out that... -
ARCHIVED Hypercoagulation And Gluten Sensitivity?
zeeclass6 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am a 51 year old woman. I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an auto-immune thyroid condition. Recently I started seeing a new doctor (I'll call him Dr. M), who told me to stop eating gluten because it is making my auto-immune condition worse. I have been gluten-free for 3 weeks now. He is the first doctor who ever told me that gluten might be a problem. I have...
