Thanks for the suggestion. At this point, I don't think I can eat dairy without it making me worse, so don't know if yogurt would help. I've tried it before, religiously, and it never made any difference. Once I get over the diarrhea, I'm fine with dairy. I drink tons of water, because I'm high risk for getting kidney infections due to my disability...

ARCHIVED Is This Gluten?
drewsant replied to drewsant's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks! -
After about a month of having very severe diarrhea--I mean eating or drinking anything would set me off, and Immodium wouldn't help, I went to the Dr, and he had me tested for different things, because I had recently been on about 3 different antibiotics for a kidney infection until they found one tht worked. He thought maybe it caused another secondary infection...

ARCHIVED Is This Gluten?
drewsant posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought some lotion from Bath and Body works, and was going thru the list of ingredients, and wasn't sure about this one--Humulus Lupulus Hops. Is this gluten? I really hope not because I love the smell of this lotion! -
I've been doing really well this last month, and staying away from gluten to the best of my knowlege. I've been eating garden salads, and gluten-free dressing, with a plain grilled chicken breast. I've been eating dark chocolate for snacks. I even checked my hand soap and shampoo, even though I thought it was going a little overboard with paranoia since I...

ARCHIVED My Dad Has Cd, But Won't Go Gluten Free
drewsant replied to Amanda76's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, as has been stated on this board, if it isn't labeled as corn, then you have to assume it's wheat, and 90% of labels don't specify what the food starch is derived from. So, I assume most of it is wheat, and stay away from it. It's easier for me that way. That's great that it's so easy for you. I've been on it a little over 2 Months. I still... -
I've been doing really well the last few weeks. I have been eating basically just salads, and gluten-free chocolate, and homemade gluten-free salsa/chips the last few weeks, and today, about 1/2 way thru eating lunch, started to feel like I needed to go--really bad. Got diarrhea again, and had to leave work. Didn't even make it home before getting sick again...

ARCHIVED My Dad Has Cd, But Won't Go Gluten Free
drewsant replied to Amanda76's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm going to play devil's advocate here for a few minutes. Well, have YOU gone totally gluten free? I'm disabled and have had almost every procedure, test done under the sun. I can tell you, yes doing those tests IS easier than totally changing your lifestyle. It's not that easy. You have to read every single label on every single box you... -
ARCHIVED More Ranting About This Horrible Disease..
drewsant replied to SandyShoes's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have basically had "D" all my life. I just had accepted that it was part of my disability, and was diagnosed with IBS. It was finally suggested in June that maybe I have Celiac, so I tried the diet, and lo and behold, a month later, I was diarrhea free. I never had the other symptoms, just the stomach cramps, severe diarrhea which would cause me to miss... -
When my doc did my blood work for Celiac, it came back that I was low in Folic acid. He put me on prenatal vitamins, and about 3 days later, I suddenly felt more awake, and less depressed. I didn't think it could work that fast, but maybe it did, and maybe that is what the problem was. He said I wasn't even that low, I was on the low end of normal. But since...

ARCHIVED Independent Review Of Records By Another Dr.
drewsant replied to redheadheather's topic in Doctors
What I would do is just request that the doctor send the test results/records to you, then you take them to whatever doctor you want to read them. You usually just have to sign a consent form for the doctor to give you a copy of the records you want. They have to give you the documents you ask for, but I know from a nurse friend of mine, that the original... -
Went to the doctor and got antibiotics for the kidney infection and I'm feeling like a new person. I also got my prenatal vitamins filled when I got the antibiotics, and started taking them at the same time. I don't know if that had anything to do with the fact that I'm feeling so much better. But I've got a lot more energy, and less sleepy than I am, even...

ARCHIVED How Sensitive Are You To Gluten?
drewsant replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have only gotten sick when I've obviously eaten gluten, when I tried to eat a hamburger with the bun, I got sick the next day. About a month or 2 later, I ate a burrito that had a flour shell, and got sick next day. I seem to get over it w/in about 4 days if I immediately go back to gluten-free diet, then I'm fine. I don't pay attention to shampoos , soaps... -
I feel like I've been hit by a truck today. I was up all night last night with kidney spasms. I think I got maybe 2 hours of sleep. I get these spasms usually every few months, and usually coincides with a kidney infection. I've been having them sporadically the last week or so, but nothing I couldn't deal with, until last night. I wanted to die. It felt...

Hi Lori. I'm pretty new to this too--2 months into it, and I can tell you I've been overweight since I was about 13 years old, even having diarrhea all the time. Since going gluten-free I've lost a lot of weight. I don't know how much, but I've gone down a pants size, and lost about 15 inches so far. I still have a long way to go, but I'm seeing a difference...

I was just wondering if anyone has had to be hospitalized, not necessarily for celiac disease, but for anything, and how the diet went in the hospital. I ask because of my disability and kidney problems, I've ended up in the hospital many many times, and it's inevitable that it will happen again. I don't want to have to worry about whether I'm going to get...

Yeah, I'm not quite 2 months into this, so I still haven't gotten into the mind set that I need to carry my food with me all the time. But I'm thinking ahead to Labor Day and not going to our family cabin for the weekend. That would be too stressful, and I probably would have to take most of my own food, because I heard what the menu will be. Easier to stay...
What did you eat that had gluten in it?
I babysat my nephews all day Saturday, and my sister had NOTHING in her house that was gluten-free. I figured she would have tuna, or fruit, or something. Everything is frozen food--fish sticks, corndogs, etc, etc. Anyway, I wasn't going to eat anything...

Tried to go into work again today, and only made it 45 minutes this time. Got REALLY sick. Guess I need to stop eating for a day or two until my system calms down. It is nice to know though that it is Celiac, and I can for the most part control this. And it is better than it was 2 months ago. Not one week could pass without missing at least a few hours...

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And The Workplace
drewsant replied to Jen H's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This topic is interesting to me because I miss a lot of work because of the diarrhea. In the last 10 years probably, I have not been able to get through much more than a 2 week stretch without missing work. But I've never had a problem with my employer because I have FMLA , or Family Medical Leave Act. I have several things under this--kidney/bladder infections... -
I was a huge BK eater before I found out I had celiac disease. Now I usually only order fries and diet coke-less calories anyway. They also have garden salads with grilled chicken breast that I've eaten and not gotten sick from. The dressing is gluten-free also, if you get the ranch dressing.

Well, the first time in almost a month that I had to leave work because I was sick. I got glutened on Saturday, and managed to get through yesterday, but it was a bad sign when I was in the bathroom 3 times within the first 1 1/2 hrs of work, so I just went home. At least now I know when I get sick, if I just be extra vigilant, it won't last very long. I...

Thanks for the feedback--it might have something to do with it. The depression has not been so bad until just recently, about the time I got diagnosed with Celiac. I thought maybe it was just because I was so stressed about my job, my personal life, and now this. but reading the boards it sounds like maybe going off gluten can cause depression too. I guess...

On to part 4--and probably the worst part of my life. After 6th grade, our school district condemned the jr high school building, so they sent us to the high school in my home town in 7th and 8th grade. The school bought a chair lift for me, since the building was 3 stories, and they couldn't keep moving classes around for me anymore. Depression really kicked...
