  1. As I stated in the last blog, my elementary years were pretty uneventful for health issues. I did pretty good until about 5th grade. I had a best friend who was 2 1/2 years older than me--we were inseperable. I remember one summer, I think I was in 3rd grade, and she was in 6th, we wrote, directed, and produced a show we put on for the neighborhood. We actually...
  2. I guess I'll tell a little about myself. The celiac disease is just the tip of the ice berg for me. And I seem to be doing pretty well with it, so I'll have a boring blog if I just talk about my Celiac disease. So I'm going to tell you about myself. I'm going to post this in several installments, otherwise I'll get carpal tunnel typing it! I was born November...
  3. I figured out I had Celiac Disease almost 2 months ago now. The ARNP at my Dr's office had suggested I look up Celiac Disease on the internet, because I had been having such a horrible bout of diarrhea that I missed a week of work. He also said to try the gluten-free diet for a month and see how I do. I had heard about Celiac actually from research I had...
  4. My Dr ordered blood tests to check for any deficiencies when he ordered the blood tests for Celiac. He knew that one of the indicators for Celiac is being deficient in vitamins/minerals. I am low in folic acid, so he put me on prenatal vitamins--which I haven't filled yet because I can't afford to until I get paid next week--hopefully they'll help to make...

    ARCHIVED Appetite

I noticed after about a month gluten-free, my appetite dropped off considerably. I could go almost all day and not be hungry, which is strange for me.
  6. I've had my depression worsen since going gluten-free. I just chalked it up to stress at work which has gotten much worse the last few months (I walk out of there feeling like I've been beat up--I get verbally abused every day over the phone working in the repair department of a phone company) and to the fact that I've had to change my whole diet, and that...
  7. I went to one, about a week after the Dr told me to try the gluten-free diet, because I was so confused about what to look for in foods, like modified food starch, and malt extract, etc. She was helpful in that way, she could help me decipher the labels. She didn't really know a whole lot about it. She actually found this website, and told me to go here for...
  8. I've been gluten-free for about a month now, and so much better. My primary problem was diarrhea, which is all but gone now, after having it for years, practically non-stop. I had blood tests that came back on Wednesday, so I went to the Dr, and he said they came back negative, but he said he still thinks I have it because of the drastic improvement of symptoms...

    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

I really haven't had any stupid comments yet. But there are a lot of people who have no clue what "gluten" is. I have a friend who is a nurse, and I eat at their house a lot, probably once a week. She is really good about asking me if I can have something or not. I've explained to her that I can't eat anything with wheat, barley, rye, or oats. So one night...

    ARCHIVED Rebelling

I did kinda the same thing this weekend, only just once, not the whole weekend. I have been pretty much gluten-free for almost 4 weeks now. Diarrhea gone for the first time in literally years, for more than just a week at a time. I haven't gotten a positive diagnosis yet, (I go in for the results of the blood tests tomorrow). Anyway, I spoke to a dietitian...
  11. I have a question about these tests. It's been stated that if you have been gluten-free, then the blood tests will come back negative. I've been on the gluten-free diet for about 3 weeks, and had blood work done last Monday. I know I've screwed up along the way, but I would say about 95% gluten-free. I guess my question is, with the maybe 5% I've eaten with...

    ARCHIVED Migraines

The thing is, I've never had a migrane until a month ago, when I started the diet, so it's a new symptom. Very rarely have had headaches at all. I hope that the drastic change in diet hasn't triggered this, and hope they will stop soon, because the last thing I need is migraines. I'm physically disabled with Spina Bifida, have chronic kidney/bladder infections...

    ARCHIVED Migraines

I'm new to Celiac Disease and have been lurking for about 3 weeks now. Strange thing is, I've had at least 3 migranes with the "flashing lights" before the headaches , since I started my gluten-free diet. I was trying to find out if maybe going on the gluten-free diet triggered them. I've never had them before. I've probably had about 12 headaches my whole...
