The first few weeks were the worst for me. Then, things got a little better and then another wave of what I found to be detox symptoms popped up. I feel like my body is detoxing in stages and waves. Water has been huge for me as are my vitamins. I do a lot of yoga and when I do, I feel like it helps with the joint pain. If there is an exercise you enjoy...

Thank you everyone! I really needed to hear all this. I think you are right. I've been gluten free almost two months and I'm still healing and learning. I'm still pretty tired and wiped out some days. The folks I work with have been super supportive and even look up things online before offering my things so they know I can have them. I was hoping to...

Hi everyone...I just need to vent. I've been seeing someone for a while now. We met last year, before my whole illness adventure began. He likes to go out on Saturday nights and usually wants to eat some where. I've told him, in depth, that I can't have gluten or dairy and why. I've offered him plenty of reading material on gluten. A friend gave me...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Mourning The Loss Of Diet!
Jetamio replied to Cujy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Angela, I'm still fairly new to this myself. I don't have kidney issues but I would suggest pushing your doctor to look into it more or perhaps finding another doctor. Don't let them dictate your health. Lots of things will get better as you heal but kidneys are important. I ended up with permanent nerve damage in one eye that resulted for non... -
ARCHIVED I Thought I Should Introduce Myself
Jetamio replied to jessimarie3's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Welcome! I too am dairy and gluten free. I'm still in the diagnosis phase (positive blood, no biopsy) and not sure if I'm going to gluten up for a biopsy yet. I am just enjoying feeling better right now. -
ARCHIVED Need On-The-Go Breakfast Ideas
Jetamio replied to BeFree's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My big thing since going gluten-free is smoothies. They seem to really agree with my body right now. Banana, frozen berries or other fruit, unsweetened almond milk, blend in a Magic Bullet, pour in a travel cup and go. Sometimes I add a little nut butter for extra protein or some safe protein powder. There are lots of recipes out there to play with too... -
I recently called Starbucks and the rep read me the ingredients on the caramel - lots of sugar, butter and milk but I didn't hear anything that indicated gluten. I may be way off - I'm still learning. I love the caramel macchiatos but alas, can't have them right now because of the dairy in the caramel.

You could be very right about the withdrawal. I'm beginning to suspect cold "sweats" from earlier are related to a virus. I'm feeling worse and worse as the day goes on - I may have picked up the stomach virus that is in our office. I would love to some good sleep though!

Hi everyone. I have been gluten free for 2 1/2 weeks now; casein free for much longer. I had a positive blood test but have not had a biopsy yet. I'm meeting with an allergist to do some more blood work and I have an appointment with a GI but I don't know if I will gluten up for the biopsy or not yet. Anyway... Since going gluten free, I feel better...

ARCHIVED Other Food Intolerances
Jetamio replied to BabsV's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I discovered my MSG allergy a long time ago and then I discovered my casein about two years before anyone thought to look at gluten because my symptoms weren't classic. Now that I've been gluten free a couple of weeks, I am writing down everything I eat and noticing some sensitivity to soy. Go figure. I'm just trying to eat as clean as I can and let my... -
ARCHIVED 4 Months Gluten-Free - No Improvement - Need Help!
Jetamio replied to Tarantula44's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am still really new to this but I've been eating the same thing pretty much every day after a weird oral reaction to gluten free sauce. I think that has helped my body a lot the last week. I have salad, rice and beans coming out of my ears but I'm starting to feel pretty good. -
These tips are all so good. I've done much better in my second week after bringing in a few things I know are "safe" to keep in my desk in case I can't get to lunch and my blood sugar drops. A few small pieces of dark chocolate have been heaven this week when I started craving something sweet. Hang in there, one day at a time right?

ARCHIVED Day 6 Of gluten-free Diet
Jetamio replied to ncteacher's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You sound a lot like me. By day three I felt pretty good (a little grouchy) but then about a week in I felt sort of terrible for a couple of days. I started itching non-stop, my tummy was "off", I was starving all the time, craving odd things and just angry feeling. I had some soy in there too and I think that added to my discomfort. Yesterday, that started... -
Thanks Mushroom - I will check that out. I have always tried to limit soy, even before all this happened but have some in "treats" since most places don't use almond milk. I might be noticing symptoms more now that I am feeling a bit better. I think I'll have to watch it more carefully now.

Hi everyone. I've been gluten free for a little over a week and being super careful. In the past, I've used soy milk from time to time as I can't have dairy. I usually opt for almond milk. Anyway, yesterday afternoon I went to an Asian restraurant with a friend and had a veggie steam bowl with rice and some gluten free sauce on the side. The inside of...

This is really interesting! I was a red head when I was little and it darkened to a dark auburn brown. I'm half Irish (mom) and half Native American (Dad).

I'm noticed the blood sugar too! It's like I'm burning through stuff really quick and getting over the top cranky if I don't eat. I actually woke up hungry this morning and that never happens. Today is day seven. I'm feeling ok - my sinus stuff is almost gone now and today, the last thing in the world I wanted was my morning coffee. Coming from someone...

ARCHIVED Cutting Out Refined Sugars
Jetamio replied to Buffheart's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Kruch - I'm working on decreasing sugar myself. I just feel like I have too much of it and for a while, I was really craving sweet stuff all the time. What I did, starting last fall, was keep a food diary for a week or so. I wrote down everything and then looked at all the sugar. My big things were flavored coffees with soy and almond milk and desserts... -
Hi everyone. I posted last week about being grouchy as I came off gluten. That is mostly gone but the last couple of days I can't seem to get full! I'm eating really clean, whole foods and I am eating enough but I'm not satisfied. It's like I'm a bottomless pit. Any tips on getting through this? The really weird thing is I'm craving meat (I'm vegan...

The irritability has started to get better. I noticed the oddest thing last night. I'm a yoga teacher and I also go to a lot of classes. Last night I was so tight and my endurance was terrible! My joints felt sore - not the achey thing they do that I think is from gluten - just really tight and sore. I made it through and have been trying to drink a...

Thanks everyone. It makes sense when I think about it as a withdrawal. I felt cranky on and off this weekend and noticed that my blood sugar was a little more sensitive but my sinus congestion has been so much better already! Before, I would spend half the day not being able to breathe and the other half being able to breathe from one side or the other...

Thanks for the response. I am glad to know that it will pass. I ate breakfast after I posted and felt better - not as emotional. I feel a little itchy today too and sort of keyed up.

I'm new here and just started eliminating gluten the last few days. I did notice my sinus congestion was better this morning but my stomach and head hurts and I feel really grouchy and emotional today. Has anyone noticed anything similar when you first removed gluten from your diet? I'm focusing on simple, whole foods right now. Thanks! Jetamio

Hi everyone. My first post and excited to have found this forum. I've been fighting with allergies of all sorts for a while now and hoping I'm on the right path. I have allergies to food dyes and a lot of additives; MSG being the worst (migraine and rashes). I also have odd reactions to dairy - not the typical lactose intolerant - mainly bloating and...
