ARCHIVED Feeling Faithless
lushgreen replied to lushgreen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi megsylvan, Yes, exactly, if one cannot be put through the correct diagnostic procedures at the CDC, which they theymselves promote, then who can one then turn to? I feel like I have flailing around, looking for a doctor that I can put my trust into - I felt like I had found one when I first met the doctor. It was funny, I walked into center, feeling... -

No, I haven't tried T3 yet, though it has been part of my plan. I have had lousy control since getting diagnosed - hugely frustrating besides the fact that I feel crappy as hell. I have been euthyroid for just a few weeks I think since starting treatment. I've been hypo, then hyper, then hypo again. I've feared the worst - that my thyroid is flailing... -

Sorry, I missed your post - yeah, this whole experience has made for quite a complicated relationship with my family, who have totally old school ideas about celiac - it's a wasting disease, diagnosed in childhood, found only in those of European descent, malabsorption entails weight loss, etc. etc. etc...and therefore I'm crazy to think I could have it!... -

Hi Karen, Thanks for the response. I know from all your stories that ultimately the proof is going to be in my response to the diet. But I also realize that a response may not be immediate, that it may take months for me to feel a significant difference. And so I guess I really wanted an official diagnosis to keep me going through the giving up of... -

Hello All, I wanted to share my story, which is still unfolding. I'm only sort of new - I was on last summer when I started having a number of varied symptoms and felt that celiac was a strong possibility (you all were incredibly helpful and supportive then). I got tested (through Quest - a mistake, should have done Prometheus) and all numbers were... -
hi sammystar - i ended up not going to columbia. i needed to see an internist for other problems anyway and could not afford to see both her as well as a gastro so she ended up running the celiac blood tests for me (which turned out to be negative). but what i found out was that dr. green, the head of the center, charges around $400 and dr. suzie lee with...

Also in Manhattan - I've heard very good things about Mary Beth Augustine at the Center for Health and Healing - extremely well-informed and up to date with all the latest research in nutrition. However, I don't know how knowledgeable she is about celiac per se. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Could This Be Cd?

hi matilda, thanks for responding. i am now getting tested for vitamin A deficiency to see if that is present in addition to the vit D deficiency. if both are, it could point to a fat malabsorption syndrome. once that is taken care, i will think about enterolab. thanks so much for your wishes and your expressions of support and concern through the... -
chana, really, 50,000? i need to call my doctor and ask her about the 1000 IU she has recommended for me. it seems like too little to correct such a deficiency when there is a lot going on right now in the medical field to change the vit D RDA to 1000 anyway. it seems it should take a lot more to correct a severe deficiency. i read elsewhere too after...

sarah, thanks for the reco for a GI - he sounds good! i've tested negative for celiac on bloodwork but maybe he can help me figure out what then is going on with all my GI symptoms. and irish, that's good information to have about Lee's follow-up charges - she may actually be affordable. do you know if she sees only celiac patients? i think i may have...

Hi Jen, I am definitely seeing another doctor - as soon as this round of testing is over. The doctor left out testing for vitamin A so I go in for that today. It made me so mad that I had to point it out to her - she hadn't even noticed. And a vitamin A deficiency may not only explain my dry eyes but it could point to a fat malabsorption syndrome and...

ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism ?
lushgreen replied to Nanjee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Armetta, Nice to see you on this thread too! I got my Synthroid prescription and just had it filled. Let's see how it goes till I find some natural supplements. I also see that people have had concerns about the fillers in Synthroid and have chosen to use a compounding pharmacy. That also sounds like a good route to go if Synthroid doesn't do... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism ?
lushgreen replied to Nanjee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Nanjee and Taneil, I was just diagnosed with hyothyroidism (TSH=6.25) after years of suspecting it and being told that my TSH was "normal". My doctor has mailed me a prescription for Synthroid but I would rather try natural supplements if possible. I have not been able to find anything about Thyrophin PMG and was wondering if could tell me more about... -
Hi All, Thought I'd follow-up and tell you what I heard from my doctor - mild hypothyroidism (TSH is 6.25) and severe vitamin D deficiency (value was 8; normal is 30). No celiac according to her (she tested IgA and tTg, I think - I haven't seen the results). Am wondering whether to pursue gluten intolerance/sensitivity testing as I now have answers for...

Hi, I thought I would also add that my doctor had me tested through Quest which I know some people here have found unreliable as far as celiac testing goes. I was wondering if it made any sense to 1) get tested through another lab 2) take my results to a celiac disease specialist and see what she has to say 3) get an endoscopy done 4) or just... -

Hi Matilda, I appreciated your post - it is not so academic now because I did end up with negative results, as I learnt from my doctor in a rushed phone conversation (I am getting a new doctor!). I have no idea what the values are and I think she only ordered IgA and tTG. She had done a whole bunch of tests and I am positive for hypthyroidism and a severe... -
LauraJ - So you know exactly what I'm talking about - being in grad school. I got papers to write, stuff to read, meetings to attend - and no energy to do any of them! I am really struggling with letting some things slide for the time being so that I can take care of myself and clearing some head space so that I can read about celiac disease and know what...

Matlida - another question: How do you understand the negative blood test results you received? You so obviously have celiac disease and not just a sensitivity - could being gluten-free for just 7 days have resulted in a false negative for you? I'm curious what leads to the failure of blood tests to detect celiac disease when EMA is supposed to be highly... -

lushgreen replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Carriefaith, I'm a little confused about celiac induced IBS - if you already have a diagnosis of celiac why would your GI symptoms not be attributed to it and rather to IBS when there is so much overlap of symptoms? Maybe there's something I'm just not understanding? -
You guys are awesome!! I am grateful...and a little overwhelmed. Thanks so much for all the great tips. The last couple of days have been marginally better - the gloomy, gray weather has lifted and we've had some sunshine here in NYC. (Does anyone else find that their fatigue/brain fog reacts to weather like this?) Armetta, It so irks me to...

Hi Matilda, Thanks for such a truly informative post. It is particularly helpful knowing about negative blood test results. But it also sucks knowing that all these procedures run the risk of being inconclusive, including a biopsy since I am on a small budget with limited insurance and since it also means having to be my own advocate with ill-informed... -
I am looking for one that specializes in vaginal infections. I have had something going on for about 9 months now which no one can figure out. Everything has been ruled out including a yeast infection and has left 3 ob/gyns stumped already. I suspect this has something to do with gluten but of course can't be sure. I need someone who can think outside...

Thanks for all the replies and the suggestions. kmmolina I appreciate your thought about speaking to my boss, but in my case, I can't quite do it, for one, because I don't know yet if I have celiac (or anything at all but chronic fatigue syndrome and IBS - those wastepaper basked diagnoses) and secondly because I'm responsible to too many people...
