I applied for an apartment so that I can cook my own food... but it'd be great to room with another gluten-free person... are there any Celiacs at Santa Cruz?

Ask for Chef Chris. I went last year and he spent over an hour on the phone w/ me. The chefs there were totally cool and cooked me custom made stuff. Call, and demand once you're there!

Yes, Celiac Disease is an "invisible disability" that people are insensitive to. I was just honored at a luncheon, and I emailed them before to ask if they knew the menu... I got some half-ass response, so I ate watermelon at my own luncheon. They basically made comments on how skinny I am. I'm sure they thought I was anorexic. Gah, I agree. This stinks!...

Yes, I'm on a steroid medicine as well, which I don't really like. I'm really confused because a lot of the symptoms I've been having are both Celiac and Crohn's-esk, but neither fit either disease perfectly. I'm mostly fatigued (EXTREMELY) and have a lot of stomach pain. Thanks

Hey! I'm from Central California, Dixon near Sacramento. And, yes, we can eat Mexican food. Thank God for corn tortillas. The only real Celiac store is in Davis, CA and it's called the Natural Food Works. Lots of gluten-free stuff. Let me know where exactly you are! Camila

I was just diagnosed with Crohn's Disease on top of Celiac. My GI Doc said it was rare to have both, but I was just wonddering if any one out there does have both. If so, how are you handling it? I can't tell what symptoms are coming from what. I am mostly fatigued, and have chronic stomach pain... Thanks!

I was talking to my cousin, and she (who is big on Chinese medicine) said that she's talked to many Celiacs who can handle bits of gluten. She was suprised to hear that I would "never ever eat gluten". Has anyone done this? Gone off gluten and had an okay response?
