Here is a copy of the email I received from ConAgra recently regarding their labeling for food allergies, specifically for gluten. It also lists their gluten-free products. Thought it might be some useful info for the forum. We understand how important it is for people who have been medically diagnosed with gluten sensitivity to obtain accurate...

ARCHIVED Help -- Dh In My 8 Year Old Is Flaring Up Again

Thank you for the extra tips, squirming itch. I'll look at the lesions tonight and see if we can try the band aid method on any of them. -

Pricklypear, You don't come off as someone screaming, I appreciate your candor. I didn't mean to come off as sounding casual about my approach. I feel like I am living and breathing this now that I have 3 of my 6 kiddos diagnosed with celiac/gluten issues. Only my 8 year old has the skin issues. Thank you for being an advocate for her who knows... -
ARCHIVED Help -- Dh In My 8 Year Old Is Flaring Up Again

Thank you everyone for the tips and points of view! I will try low iodine, although it sounds a bit complicated. I'll start by just switching out the salt -- that I can do. And I'll keep an eye out for the canned foods. I will stick to tylenol now that I know ibuprofen is off the list. Caladryl I have, I will try her with that. Thankfully, her rash... -
ARCHIVED Help -- Dh In My 8 Year Old Is Flaring Up Again

My 8 year old has been on a gluten-free diet since January. After 2 months of gluten-free diet, we had to put her back on gluten for a month to perform the endoscopy. During those first two months, her DH almost fully cleared, then did fully clear two weeks into the gluten month. After endoscopy, went back on gluten-free diet immediately, and of course... -
Janet, Thanks for the great party suggestions! Love the stealth gluten-free snack ideas. I end up overcompensating when something unexpected comes up, too. Like the time the restaurant brought out a birthday churro for my newly diagnosed birthday girl. I was so caught up in the events I didn't even think about it, and my husband realized she shouldn...

ARCHIVED End Of Year Party At School
Polly replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One More Update to this story: When we had our other children checked for Celiac because of this daughter's case, we found that we had two more kiddos with Celiac. My one daughter, the original one I wrote about here, told her newly diagnosed brother and sister that the best thing about being gluten free was the end of the year party when they get... -
Thanks for the quick replies Jillian, Cara, and Stephanie! I hadn't thought to broaden my search out to other food allergies, that's a great idea. And, I totally agree with you about undiagnosed students (and staff, probably, too!) Last May for Celiac Disease Awareness Month, I asked the nurse if I could send out an article to the teachers and staff...

Now that we have 3 kiddos in the family diagnosed with Celiac/gluten issues, I'm trying to find local buddies for them. We are the only ones in the school at this point. The school nurse is going to send a letter around to the other local elementary schools in the area to see if there are any other students in the same situation who would like some friends...

ARCHIVED Which Dr. Did You Get To Test Your Other Children?
Polly replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Update: We heard back about the biopsies and my 9 year old girl (the one with no symptoms but a number in the 50's on the celiac screen) came back as a positive for celiac. My 10 year old son, though, (with a 28 on his celiac screen) came back as having inflammation in the gut, but not caused by lymphocytes, which is apparently the thing you need... -

ARCHIVED Which Dr. Did You Get To Test Your Other Children?
Polly replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks, Stephanie! I'll report back once the biopsies are done! I'm still trying to find out if there is a way to get insurance to pay for genetic testing. From what I've heard so far, it doesn't sound like it. And it sounds very expensive. Did you do any genetic testing, and do you think you know which side of the family it came from? If 3 of... -
ARCHIVED Which Dr. Did You Get To Test Your Other Children?
Polly replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the quick reply, Stephanie. Did they give you any reasons why your son might be asymptomatic but have high numbers? And reading your numbers, ours are lower than yours, but still out of range. My 8 year old daughter that has already been confirmed was 65 before going gluten-free. My 10 year old son was only 28 and my asymptomatic ... -
ARCHIVED Which Dr. Did You Get To Test Your Other Children?
Polly replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Quick update everyone: We just got the results back on the 4 children old enough to be tested, and two of them came back with high numbers. (That makes 3 out of our 6 children for us so far) One of them, our 10 year old, has always been underweight, although tall for our family. He has always had sensory disorder issues and I've thought about putting... -

ARCHIVED Which Dr. Did You Get To Test Your Other Children?
Polly replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Good news! I talked to the nurse practioner at the ped. office last time I was there with a sick kiddo and she did all the research to find diagnostic codes and I picked up the lab orders today. Now I can finally get the others tested. Except the baby, I understand we have to wait until he gets older, right? I heard that babies can show false positives... -
ARCHIVED Which Dr. Did You Get To Test Your Other Children?
Polly replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A big thank you for all of the timely replies, I really appreciate it! I agree, I wish the ped. would just write an order. She agrees that we need to test the other children to make sure they don't have it. (They don't have any symptoms at this time). She just doesn't know the diagnostic codes and isn't familiar with the exact test they need, so wants... -
ARCHIVED Which Dr. Did You Get To Test Your Other Children?
Polly posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've posted before about our 7 year old who was diagnosed a few months ago. The GI who did her endoscopy said that there is a 10% chance that one of the other children is positive. She said to have the pediatrician send them to the lab for testing. I talked to our pediatrician and she said she has the specialists test for things like that because it is... -
ARCHIVED End Of Year Party At School
Polly replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just wanted to follow up with everyone and let you know how the party went. I took her to the store earlier in the week and let her choose some special gluten-free foods to take. Her brothers and sisters helped her choose, so she felt really special with all of the attention. We also cooked her favorite "candy coated popcorn" with sprinkles. ... -

ARCHIVED End Of Year Party At School
Polly replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, cross contam. is always in the front of my mind, that's true. I was concerned about that just from the other kids touching things and contaminating the naturally gluten-free food. The teacher said she could go through the line first and get her food that she could eat from the table. Our school district won't allow anything that isn't packaged and... -
ARCHIVED End Of Year Party At School
Polly replied to Polly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks, Krystynycole, fruit and popcorn are both great ideas! We made a special gluten-free "birthday cake" popcorn mix for her the other day and she loved it. I'll make sure to include a bag of that. On a side note, my daughter is the first gluten-free kiddo that her teacher has ever had in her class, and she's been teaching a long time. Her teacher...
