ARCHIVED Interesting Observation - Coffee
troykm posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This may be TMI for some so be warned LOL I love coffee! But have always had a problem with it. It always made me gooooooooooooo! With in 5 min of a cup i would be running to the loo and while not having diarrhoea, it would certainly be classed as an emergency evacuation. Also if i had more than 2 cups a day (sometimes just 2 was enough) i would get symptoms... -

i only just noticed that my antibody test did not include total IgA levels either, which would have seen if i was IgA deficient and thus producing the negative result. -

The antibody test is NOT diagnostic of but suggestive of celiac disease!!!! 30% of all celiacs will test negative on the blood test. 5% of celiacs don't have the genes. But 100% of celiacs will have intestinal damage, even if its missed in the biopsy! All a negative blood test means is your body is either compensating or fighting the disease in other ways... -

What's with you? Are you trying to make me think my diagnosis was wrong? The damage my biopsy picked up is only caused by very few things. As all other causes have been ruled out, that leaves celiac. What else would you have me do? Wait until I get cancer or something? Would that be convincing enough? The antibody test when positive is 99% right. But... -

Thats true. My specialist told me 5% of celiacs don't have the genes and there is also a 25%ish false negative with the blood test. In her eyes if your positive to two out of 3 (biopsy, blood and genetic test) then you have it. I was positive in biopsy and genetic. Remember too all three ttests will yield different results depending on what stage of the... -

As per my post above, the genetic test was positive. The specialist is now convinced that its celiac. Nothing in my blood work was out of the ordinary although a few things were towards the low end but not under. She thinks my body was finding ways to compensate over the years. I also always took multivitamins so that could play a part too. My two sisters... -
Thanks it's all good now :-) diagnosis is 100% celiac. No other health issues. Onwards and upwards from here

Well I had an hiv test and it's negative. So it really is celiac :-) And I'm going to have words with DR GI for terrifying me so casually. Lol So I'm a member :-) odd that I should be so happy but I am. -

I should add that I'm questioning all this because my GI Dr has suggested that (as I am gay) that I may have hiv as that can cause celiac like things. Now unless hiv has become air born in the last few years it's not possible but she has made me panic now. What if! -

Yes I want gluten free after this biopsy result as the Gi Dr said it was most likely celiac. But after that my blood work came back negative for antibodies so now she is not sure and is freaking me out. She just keeps saying hmmm not sure let's catch up again in two weeks bla bla bla. I stI'll don't have the genetic test results yet but hopefully they come... -

This is what was found in my biopsy. "Sections consist of a single fragments of heavily denuded duodenal mucosa with an abnormal architexture comprising mild to moderate villous atrophy associated with crypt hyperplasia. There is a significant generalized increase in intraepithelial lymphocytes associated with degenerative changes with in the remaining... -
ARCHIVED Relapse Or Normal?
troykm posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey guys I'm at the end of my third week gluten free. the first week and a half was grea t and I had good symptom relief. But in the last few days I started becoming very lethargic and tired. I'm also starting to become irritable again. Is this a normal part of recovery? I'm also becoming quite nauseas in the bowel area. Not like I'm going to vomit... -
I really want this to be celiac. But when the Dr says "this list of diseases can also cause villious atrophy" you start to wonder when the tests don't all point to yes.
-
Yes I know it sounds silly but after being misdiagnosed for so many years has made me question everything. I would love for this to be celiac because it would be easy to treat. But I just can't help thinking what if it's wrong and I'm missing something more serious. It's not a silly thought but i agree not helpful. I'm staying gluten free. Thanks everyone...

Thanks tom, but that question is not good enough. Yes I feel better but that does not mean I have celiac. I may just have gluten intolerance which is fine, but then what's causing the intestinal damage? That's my dilemma. I'm not happy to take a chance.

Ok I am a person that needs yes or no. Either I have celilac or I don't. Lol Today I went back to my specialist. My genetic test is still not back until tomorrow so still waiting for that one. My other blood work is great. Normal antibody test and all vitamin and mineral levels are great. So Dr Gi is still hesitant to say yes 100% to celiac. As I have...

I'm so glad to hear these replies because I thought it was just me. :-) I've noticed now that I'm 2 weeks gluten free I'm starting to get ear ache. Not like an infection, it's a muscle spasm. It happens once an hour or so just a quick twitch and then it's gone. Has anyone else had that?
-
thanks guys, ill post my results on here when i get them. all i know is the antibody test were in the 'normal range'. as for the numbers I'm not sure yet, will find out when i see the specialist in a week. As a side note, after my biopsy showed possible celiac, both my sisters (who have similar symptom profiles to me) went and got the antibody test. One...

OK so two weeks ago i had a biopsy done and it showed that i have celiac. The atrophy was there and so was the high levels of those cells (i forget the name) so my specialist said yep but she wanted all the blood work done as well. So i had the antibody test and a few others as well as the genetic test. The antibody test is negative!!! How can this be?...

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and new to the idea of celiac disease. I must say at this stage i have not been tested for the disease but next week am having a gastroscopy for diagnosis. However i have been reading a lot about this disease and think it may just be what i have. Let me give you all a run down on myself and see what your thoughts are. I...
