  1. Hi and welcome. I'm sorry your doc doesn't seem to understand. You've come to the right place--people here definitely do! I agree with Nini and the others--if cutting out gluten makes you feel better, what does it matter what a test says? I agree with her also that gluten is probably toxic in general. I don't have a test but know that my sinus problems...
  2. Beer definitely hurt me the last couple of times I drank it--the pain! So I haven't really missed it. Glad you're feeling better and welcome!
  3. Yes, it sounds right! celiac disease can most definitely slow growth and cause failure to thrive in children. You're wise to get him tested, since immediate relatives are at risk of having this genetic thing we share. You've come to the right place for support and information. Welcome!
  4. I'm with Kaiti, after only a few weeks gluten-free, most of that stuff doesn't appeal to me anymore. So far pizza is the only thing I miss, but I know how dearly I'll pay if I eat it. I already had lost some joy in starchy junk food anyhow as I've developed a tendency to put on weight in the last few years (I'm almost 41 and not the typical skinny celiac...
  5. The mom's BF sounds like a real charmer . . . Sorry you had to go through that and that the restaurant personnel (you're a paying customer--HELLO!) was a jerk to you.
  6. Hi, sorry everyone is being dense and thick-headed about this. Whatever happened to hospitality? I live in the South, and if you knowingly invite someone to dinner that has a condition or food allergy or whatever, you are obliged to accommodate them. My FIL is celiac, and the in-laws went with DH and I to visit my mother and her husband. I told them beforehand...
  7. Hi and welcome! I didn't test either, just figured it out by process of elimination. I can't go back now, and even if I did, I might only have gluten sensitivity or intolerance rather than full-blown celiac disease. Hopefully the genetic testing will be more accurate eventually.
  8. I agree with Kaiti. If the diet works, that's the real proof. Since your daughter has it, chances are he has it since your bloodwork was normal (there's a genetic component). Staying gluten-free agrees with him, and it's good for your daughter to have a gluten-free buddy
  9. St. Ives Collagen & Elastin lotion has wheat germ oil I'm in the process of going through my makeup. Kaiti mentioned that not Clinique products are gluten-free and recommended Bare Escentuals. They're a bit pricey--anyone know of a cheaper foundation that's gluten-free?
  10. Hi and welcome. Even your results come back negative, you can try a dietary challenge. If you feel better, then you know at least you have a sensitivity. Good luck on your results!
  11. Sounds like you already have your answer. Unless you need an official diagnosis for insurance reasons or something like that, you have gluten issues and therefore need to avoid it. I never was diagnosed either, but I know I have issues with it because I don't have nearly as many headaches or stomach problems as I did before. It doesn't matter to me whether...
  12. Oops, I'd better change makeup brands then.
  13. Thanks for giving me some perspective. I did change my lotion (St. Ives) because it contains wheat germ oil. I think the face makeup is OK (Clinique), but who knows. I don't use much lipstick, mainly just Carmex. I'll have to pick up some enzymes and L-glutamine.
  14. Thanks for the thoughts on this. I've tried to be strict, but you're right, the restaurant-ordered dishes might be cross-contaminated. And the raw veggies and such might be hard to digest. Time, as Kaiti pointed out, is also something to consider, and I shouldn't expect improvement so fast. It was just weird to be doing so well, then have this happen...
  15. I started the gluten-free diet a week and a half ago and did really well for a week. Now, my stomach is bloated after every meal, I have gas from hell, and I had a headache again today. What gives? I've been strict with the diet. Is it possible this isn't my problem? The first week went so well, but then things went downhill. Help!
