  2. Hello people, rookie Celiac here with two questions: 1. Having bought a brand new toaster (as per recommendation), do I need to buy a new bread maker? We have an old break maker that was used pre diagnosis (i.e. to make bread WITH gluten) a few times....can I use that one? 2. Do I need a break maker with a "gluten-free" setting on it?   3. Yeah I'm coming to the end of a loaf of Genius white bread now. It is indeed the best one I've tasted in my limited time of trying gluten-free breads. I've also tried a brown one called 'Yes You Can' from Roberts Bakeries. That one wasn't as tasty. Another thing I've noticed is I'm more mindful of getting fibre now I'm not eating normal wholemeal bread and...

When I had my first blood test which confirmed celiac disease the markers that came back positive were 'Endomysial antibody GgA level' and 'Anti tissue transglutaminose level' (phew!)....but if I then get subsequent blood tests done (after having gone gluten-free for a few months) will such markers or any others indicate less prominence or be negative AS...
  5. As long as 2-3 hours? Another complication as far as I can see is it's been suggested on here that Celiacs need to drink plenty of water but again that drowns digestive enzymes, so what I am doing (rightly or wongly) is to not have water maybe 1 hour either side of a meal, particularly if it's nutritious, less worried if it's relative junk with fewer nutrients...

In order to maximise nutrient absorption from those of us who have damaged our intestines through celiac disease, what sort of time gap should we leave between eating something nutritious and consuming something that might reduce absorption such as tea/coffee and refined sugar.   8. Yes the former. Thanks for the response - it has helped clarify in my own mind my original question. It depends on lots of factors - ability to recover/repair, starting point of going gluten free, ingestion levels of gluten (however small), level of inflammatory response etc etc.
  9. Same here. In the last 12-18months I started getting intermittent very slight stomach aches and also 6 months prior to this DH eczema started. I had eczema as a child at times and just put it down to cheap soaps and detergents and managed the condition by being mindful of this and using aqueous cream. In the back of my mind though I knew something was not...

  11. Ok thanks for the link. I did read it. This does not answer my question really. I KNOW obviously the 'solution' to celiac disease is to stop gluten ingestion but what I am asking is related to the RATE at which damage occurs versus the RATE at which healing occurs.

Until now I've been relying on a) "free from" sections of supermarkets, which are usually (but not always) a little pricey b ) basic knowledge of simple foodstuffs that won't contain gluten because they are pure c) the coeliac (spelling?) society food directory list. What is quite curious is that I seem to get pain every other day or so but not always...
  13. Thanks to the above for taking the time to reply. I've just started taking a probiotic tablet twice a day and try to have probiotic yoghurt several times a week too. Also taking some iron to get my store levels up a bit but obviously that's not directly related to the healing. Let me know what else I can do....thanks, Paul.

Hi there, only just joined but have noticed a mainly USA biased emphasis, so..... it's a long shot but just wanted to know if anyone in the Bristol (UK) area knows of any gluten-free bakeries OR decent gluten-free bread? I've tried a few supermarket sliced bread options and they're not great. Perhaps my only option is to make my own??? Thanks....

Was only diagnosed less than 2 weeks ago so this might be a rookie question :-) If the intestines gradually heal themselves, is there a rate/amount at which gluten could IN THEORY be ingested and the NET effect is that the intestines do actually gradually heal? Although obviously if you were gluten free 100% then that healing process would be quicker.

OK, first post here and was diagnosed Celiac 2 weeks ago :-( Can you still get pain (in the small intestine area) even though you've gone gluten free i.e. does the inflammation/damage you've built up IN THE PAST keep giving pain sometimes? Or is it more likely I'm not being vigilant enough and it really is to do with CURRENT gluten ingestion?
