  1. Saccharomyces Boulardii is a probiotic yeast that is supposedly helpful for IBS, especially travelers diarrhea. I have a IBS with a sensitivity to gluten and casein. Being on the road a lot, there are often times when I dont pack a gluten free lunch and all I can find is a sandwich or something else with gluten. I know I will pay for it with an upset stomach and on the odd occasion diarrhea exactly 24 hours after ingestion. I bought some Saccharomyces Boulardii today, hoping it will help. Thanks for your thoughts!
  2. Help! I can't lose weight!

    Hi Keto. I certainly share you frustration. Even with low calories and exercise my weight continues to creep up. I have tried low carb, but I am not a big meat eater. And I cant eat dairy because of the casein. Most of my weight is on my belly-the rest is normal. Wish I could find the answer too! Good luck!
  3. I have been able to maintain fairly good digestion and a manageable belly until two weeks ago. I was staying at a hotel and we were snowed in. All their was to eat was muffins. I figured I could deal with the future discomfort as a trade off for not starving. Two weeks later my belly is still distended. People are even commenting on it. In the past, a reaction only lasted a couple day. I am in my sixties now, is this what I have to look forward too? Thanks!
  4. Having this is so frustrating, my knickers are twisted up in knots. It is comforting to know that I am not the only one with multiple symptoms, most of which can be traced to gluten/casein. I have also spent a small fortune on digestive/weight loss supplements. Whats working now to improve my weight and digestion are being gluten/casein free of course, and cutting way back on red meat and alcohol. These two are also the worst for IBS, and really mess with the gluten compromised digestive system of an older person. I have found a store that carries Glutenberg beer, which is not bad but way too expensive. Guess I will stick to Coors Light for now. The hard stuff really messes up my stomach.   5. No Victoria1234 this is NOT just a celiac board. This is a 'celiac and gluten free diet support board'. I am attempting to get some support. If you are not interested in giving me any, please keep your comments to yourself. You dont know me or anything about me, and if you think I am a sinner, than obviously you have more issues than celiac disease.
  6. Don't get your knickers in a twist everybody. I am not flaunting anything. Just looking for advice from those who have been through this. I am almost 100% gluten free, but that doesn't mean I cant try to understand how different foods effect(ed)me. A couple cold ones on a hot day after yard work aint no sin when you cant buy gluten free or even alcohol free where you live, brothers and sisters. I am willing to put up with the consequences. Also, colorectal cancer runs in my family, and I think the fact my Dad and uncles were big meat eaters had an effect. My brother went from gluten free to a no carb diet, following the extreme end of the William Davis wheat belly diet. He has lost weight, but I cant help but think it is not healthy in the long run. I am aware of the We get paranoid about food in our family!
  7. Serious question! I am not celiac just intolerant. Probably high on the spectrum. Not to disrespect true celiacs at all, just looking for knowledge.
  8. I get how the reaction can depend on the amount of gluten consumed, but has anyone noticed that different foods give different reactions? I like to have a couple beers after I mow the lawn. I have noticed that when I dont have any beer, my knees are great, but when I do, they flare up. I have mild arthritis in both knees. Since joint pain is a side effect, I wonder if the fact the 'liquid' gluten hits my joints harder. Other than the pops, I am gluten free. Still waiting for a gluten free beer that is drinkable.
  9. I am sure this has been asked before, sorry but I thought I would try again. I am on vacay next week and will have a few beers at the lake. There are no gluten free beers available where I live. I would think that some of the mass produced ones-Bud, Miller, Coors, would have more or less gluten than others. I cant find that info online. I am gluten intolerant not full blown celiac (yet), so a few pops a couple times a year won't kill me. But my brother in law's BBQ might! Any advice appreciated!
  10. Mental issues like anxiety, depression, and ADHD are a big part of this. I had all three, especially as a kid. Nobody talked about celiac, much less gluten sensitivity back then. Always toast for breakfast, a sandwhich for lunch. Mom-why does my stomach always ache? Why dont the other kids like me? Wish I knew now what I know then! I am currently taking Wellbutrin for adult ADD that was diagnosed 15 years ago, before the gluten thing. I have gone off in the past while eating gluten, had to go back on orders of my wife. I can probably safely go off now, but it sure helps me focus, and in my job I need that, at least until I retire.
  11. This disease brings out the best and the worst in people. There are still a lot of people that don't even believe gluten sensitivity exists. I look at my poop too, but colo-rectal cancer runs in my family and got my Dad and uncle, so I am obsessed about digestion. This is a great place though, I first came here in 2012, bounced in and out, trying to figure out what was wrong with me. So glad I finally put the puzzle together, but much frustration along the way. Lately, with friends passing, and the state of the world, I feel lucky to be alive and fairly healthy living where I do. Summer is here, the birds are singing, its great to be alive.

Being gluten casein free really made me feel so much better over all (I had almost all the side effects) but it didnt do much for weight loss, and my digestive issues did improve but not a whole lot. I have always been cursed with a very slow metabolism. Being a senior now, with a sedentary lifestyle, has just made it worse. For the last couple months I have been really cutting back on the calories and exercising, and finally seeing some results as my waist is noticeably smaller. However, I am wondering if the fact I have less central obesity/visceral fat is also a factor in my digestion improving and the fact I have less stomach pain and IBS like symptoms? Or even if I didnt lose the weight would this long(er) period of gluten/casein free be the reason? My body really confuses me. Of course I will stay gluten/casein free for life, but would sure like to know if anybody else felt that losing weight, especially on the midsection, also improved digestion and digestive issues?   13. I certainly feel your pain. It is so meddening to figure out what the hell is going on, but gluten can effect everything! Took me about five years, but a gluten/casein free diet works for me and it is fairly easy to follow. Take care.
  14. Could it be the cheese? I have found that since I have been gluten free, cheese (casein) hits me a lot harder, so I have cut that out as well.
