  1. I do not go sugarless, Opa. My endocrinologist has always preached not to avoid foods because by avoiding foods, you will naturally be more drawn to those foods and may be prone to overindulge. That being said, I am not a sugar-a-holic, never have been. What I am trying to do lately is go low-carb...and that has led to good results for me. I am trying to...
  2. Those are very good blood sugars! I will tell you, if that was an average day for me, I would be ecstatic...but I also suspect that that is why I'm diabetic, haha! For example, my waking blood sugar was 207...then 185...then 224...,then 145 before lunch. I will say this is a higher day than most...I have an insulin pump and I need to change the site soon...
  3. Well, remember this was probably almost four years ago, but I had the classic symptoms- I was thirsty all the time - could never get enough to drink (my sister, a nurse, told me it was be because I drank too much caffeine), I was always hungry but was down to about 90 pounds at time of DX...and at that point, I had the beginnings of neuropathy in my feet...
  4. Wow, you are way up there! I hear you on ignoring symptoms! That is the story of my life! I was telling people for 8 months I thought I had diabetes and no one listened to me until a routine blood test showed I had a blood sugar of 420 and an A1C of 14.3. Now, they are not listening to me for other reasons...if you find a good doctor, hold on to them...
  5. Well part of my problem food intolerance wise is that I don't always know whether a reaction is related to gluten intolerance or if its related to my food intolerance due to my absent gall bladder. It's why I don't eat any fried foods or fast foods if I can avoid it...because certain oils irritate my stomach. Which may be a culprit here too...defatted peanut...
  6. Well, I have been eating gluten free for about three weeks now, give or take, but you are right. I just figured after a week or so of no reactions I was doing pretty well. I am only trying to be careful with peanut butter specifically after reading that store brand peanuts are processed in places that contain wheat, while Planters are fine...so I figured...
  7. Has anyone tried this brand? Just got it at my local Wegmans - was labeled gluten free. I made a sandwich (with gluten-free bread) and had peanuts and glutino pretzels...all of these things I've had before with no reaction...but right after eating, I had a reaction...my first in a week or so So now I'm confused, is it really gluten free or is it the...
  8. Hi! What are of Northern NJ are you in? Good luck with the doctor! Hope you get a much better answer than I did!
  9. Out of curiosity, which ship did you go on? I have heard some are certainly not as good as others. Like I said, I had good luck with the Dream and had read on Cruise Critic that others had as well, but have definitely heard other Carnival ships were not as good in terms of that.
  10. Forgot to add, even in the buffet, if you ask, some foods can be made gluten free. For example, there was a pizza bar of sorts on our cruise and they can make a gluten free pizza if you ask. My husband said the regular pizza was not very good, so I'm hesitant to say the gluten free pizza would be, but opinions may vary
  11. Hi! I just came back from a Carnival Cruise and I had a great experience. I told the hostess at the dining room right away about my food issues and they took care of me for the rest of the cruise. My husband and I even went out to eat at one of the restaurants on the cruise you have to pay to get into and they knew about my food issues before I came in and...
  12. I understand...and will definitely make sure to ask for the pathologist report...what I am a little skeptical about is her admittedly unsure statement about the inflamed duodenum. She even admits in her report that it could be from the acid reflux but also might not be. Why not wait until she gets the pathologists report back to say something? Also, why...
  13. I am not sure whether this is the right forum for this because I know these are obviously NOT gluten free, but I was wondering whether anyone knew what kind of oil they use when cooking them?
  14. Well, that kind of confirms that she sent the procedure report before the pathologists report because I know she sent it on Friday the 21st...for some reason I truly doubt the pathologist had completed 6-8 biopsies by that point. I guess it's possible, but it seems a little hard to believe. This whole thing has really soured me on some of the medical profession...
  15. Wow! That's pretty shameful! My GI claimed she got 8 samples...but really with the quick turn around on the report and the tidy little "explanation"-- and based on what you are saying, no I'm doubting a biopsy was actually done. So are you saying that the pathologist report will confirm whether or not a biopsy was actually done? Does that mean if there...
  16. Is that easy to get a hold of? Also, does that often happen that the pathologist sees celiac but the doctor does not/and/or reports something else?
  17. Finally back from a long extended vacation...back to reality. To give a short history, had a biopsy done back on Dec 19- got results back on Dec 21st. Nurse (not doctor) phoned and told me I did not have any evidence of celiac but to start taking aciphex for the acid reflux (never mind that that was not my presenting problem). I called them after Xmas and...
  18. I tried one of the chicken sandwiches at Wendy's that was supposed to be gluten free (sans bun of course) and got a most unpleasant reaction, so looks like the only food that is edible for me there now are the Frosty's (which is fine with me)
  19. Actually I had a similar reaction myself yesterday. I drank a coconut latte thinking that I usually do okay with little occasional cups of coffee...but boom, right afterwards and for hours after that, I had C, D and some pretty horrible abdominal pain. At first I blamed it on the caffeine, but since then, I am thinking it was either the milk or the syrup...
  20. Thank you for this - I agree the chance for CC was likely high. That is interesting regarding the melted butter...I will remember that and avoid it in the future!
  21. Yes, I know that MSG doesn't contain gluten...and I know soy doesn't...I was talking about other food intolerances which I am trying to figure out now and wondering whether it might be another ingredient in it (since gluten is not in this) that might have bothered me.
  22. So, if you want a doctor to test for eosinophils, you have to request them to? Is it usually done during the endoscopy?
  23. Ahh yes, after doing a little research it seems as though hydrolized soy protein is connected to MSG...so that may be the issue..
  24. No, I would guess it wasn't the maltodextrin either, but I must say I am confused as to what it was...and this is the worst I have felt stomach wise since going gluten free a week ago. I am thinking it has to be the soy protein or the butter (although I'm not entirely sure if that's pure butter or not).
  25. Ugh...I ordered it too and had a mild reaction...I don't know if it was the maltodextrin or the soy...knowing me, it was probably the soy...
