  1. Hi! Hope you had a good holiday! I saw in another thread about testing for eosinophils - is that automatically done during an endoscopy or is it something you have to request? I have definitely learned things about myself even after only being on this diet for about a week and not all have made sense. For example, I've figured out that I cannot eat...
  2. It's a possibility, although I have had reactions (horrible ones) from eating pretzels when no dairy was present. I do plan to cut out dairy after tonight though. Though, this may be a stupid question - what are caseins?
  3. Actually I was thinking lactose might have been what caused it. Tonight I had chicken with polenta and corn and green beans and I had a reaction...then my SIL told me the sauce the chicken was in had sour cream. Thus, I have determined, I may need to cut out lactose as well. Sigh...
  4. Well, I talked to the nurse again of my GI and felt as if I was running around in circles with her. I said some people are gluten sensitive while not testing positive for celiac..,to which she says, you aren't celiac. I told her that I knew that...but why then do I have the C, D, low grade fevers and headaches when I eat a lot of gluten? She tried to tell...
  5. Well, it has been an interesting couple of days. I accidentally had food that had gluten (eggplant parm), but was lucky not to have a reaction ...that's what makes this so confusing because one day, any type of gluten under the sun, even a tiny amount will cause me a lot of discomfort, to say the least...the next, I will inexplicably be fine. Does this make...
  6. I will check them out just in case - thank you! For me, the problem is (and I suspect for your daughter as well, maybe ) is even when I don't get the C+D, I am still getting a lot of abdominal discomfort due to the heartburn and reflux. I would prefer that to the C+ D any day, but it's still unpleasant. It's going to be a bit until I am able to get the aciphex...
  7. I could definitely see it becoming an issue...the nutrition and the calories. How do you find the amino acid formulas? Well , today was a good day...I went gluten free and had no reactions for the first time in two or three days. However, nutrition and calories were an issue...too little protein I fear. I really appreciate all the help and support...
  8. I admit I was pretty suspicious that something like that may have happened when I noticed a piece of lettuce on the burger when there was not supposed to be. At least made me suspect there was some error occurring there.
  9. Thanks for the help and the links, mommida. I asked my stepfather (a doctor) and he said basically the same thing - to do an elimination diet and get some differential diagnoses from my doctor regarding my presenting problems (C and D). Bottom line, I need more information and I'm not getting it. I do think regardless that sometimes you just need to do your...
  10. Hi Karen- Yes that was me...I probably won't get them until the new year, but hopefully will talk to the doctor on Wednesday. The problem is exactly that - I know there is inflammation - but I don't know the extent of it. And yes , all diagnosis, but no instruction save, take this pill for the reflux...no word about everything else, which was my presenting...
  11. I really don't do any of those things though. I don't eat large meals, almost never eat fatty foods and haven't eaten spicy foods in some times. And honestly, reflux is a side issue for me...the bigger issue is still C and D. Plus, there was inflammation in my intestines...
  12. I was afraid of that, mushroom...that was the only thing I could think of short of CC..,only thing I am wondering is what type of gluten they might put in there...my mom makes it all the time and just adds lemon and garlic...well live and learn! I think I will avoid guacamole unless I or my mother makes it!!
  13. Not celiac, recently diagnosed with EE, but suspect I am sensitive to gluten so am trying a gluten free diet to see if it eliminates my problems. Went to a restaurant and asked for their gluten free menu...if said they could do any of their burgers without a bun, so I figured I'd be safe as I'm not sure how sensitive I am to CC yet. Anyway, so I got a turkey...
  14. Just saw this thread - I was recently diagnosed with EE but clearly have leaky gut issues (and on the endoscopy my intestines were inflamed. No evidence of celiac so my doctor just stuck me on meds for the EE and never even touched on the issues that brought me in to see her! So I've been doing my own research on the subject but still feel very confused,...
  15. I hope she would have!! I really dislike waiting until after the new year to see the report, but at the very least, I am going to call my doctor next Wednesday to see if she can say anymore than the nurse did on the phone. Beyond that, I have heard that EE can be connected to allergies and that sort of thing, so I am going to go gluten free for a while...
  16. My doctor (well her nurse) called yesterday afternoon and left this very convoluted message saying I had esophagitis but there was no evidence of celiac. You would think I would be relieved, but instead I am more frustrated and concerned than before. First of all, there was inflammation of my intestines - was that all caused by the esophagitis? I doubt...
  17. I definitely do not plan to do anything until the reports come back...a bit like putting the cart before the horse and in the end, whatever it may be, I just want the peace of mind that will come from knowing for sure! The reason why I suspect the reflux is tied into the possible celiac is that I never had that until the other symptoms came along. ...
  18. Thanks for the quick response, mushroom (hee! Love the handle!). I figured that celiac probably wasn't the only thing it might be. What are some other causes of inflammation? She named one rather benign sounding cause but then said she doubted it was that because my inflammation was more diffuse. She definitely did not say, "Hey, idiot, this is celiac...
  19. Had my endoscopy today, my GI doctor got 6-8 samples to biopsy so hopefully when the results come back it will be pretty thorough. She told me she would let me know on Wednesday what she found, but she did tell me there was significant, diffuse inflammation on my intestine (she did not specify about large or small though), found no evidence of an ulcer...
  20. Yup, this morning. It was not bad...a little better than I expected I think. I made the mistake of eating after it and paid for it all day long! Doctor said my intestines showed inflammation and seemed to indicate that she thought it was celiac, though was careful to say of course that nothing was certain until the biopsy came back. Good luck to...
  21. I know...that really wasn't what I was trying to say either...sorry for the misunderstanding - I got 3 hours of sleep last night worrying about my blood sugar and the endoscopy - so my comprehension skills today are not top notch
  22. I don't think anyone used the word causation, although I could be wrong. I am very much a newbie here and all I know are things I have read in different places. Let me be clear, I never read that a symptom of celiac was hypoglycemia merely that some Type 1 Diabetics may experience hypoglycemia more than others due to the lack of absorption of gluten. I do...
  23. Well, despite all my best efforts, at 2 am last night I had a low blood sugar (54)- that thank goodness I was able to bring up just by removing my pump for a little while!! Although I was so worried about the whole thing, I got little sleep. I still love my GI - when I saw her this morning prior to the endoscopy I remembered everyone 's advice and asked...
  24. Is Celiac considered to be genetic as well? Not sure what kind of family medical history tends to point to Celiac? Yes, the link between Celiac and hypoglycemic episodes made sense to me as well.
  25. Hello Adalaide - Thanks for the response and the advice as per what your husband did- I appreciate it. The milk is especially a good idea - thanks for the tip! Yes, I can correct with the pump but I am a little afraid of over -correcting - even with the pump, with my sensitivity to insulin especially in the AM, I am a little worried I might end up hypoglycemic...
