ARCHIVED Recovery Time For 15 Month Old
shorebird replied to shorebird's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you all so much! I found a pediatric GI in our area but before I make an appointment, I'm going to have him do the gluten challenge. I don't really want to do it, but if that's the only way to get him properly diagnosed then so be it. -

I do want to get the genetic test done on the off chance he doesn't have the gene for it then we can investigate other possibilities rather than going on and doing other celiac related testing. About how long do children usually need to do the gluten challenge? -
ARCHIVED Recovery Time For 15 Month Old

Thank you!! My only question is, wouldn't he be too young right now for something like a biopsy? I remember reading something about getting the blood tests done first in children before deciding on an endoscopy. -
ARCHIVED Recovery Time For 15 Month Old

I know there can be variations in recovery times, but thank you for answering my question! His little arms and legs are like sticks and like I said, he's just so tiny! I hope he catches up soon. The good thing is, we have a better chance of getting him diagnosed early so it won't affect his growth in the long run like it did mine. -

He's been gluten free for just a few months. I've kept him on a gluten free diet because the few times we slipped up (sneaking bites of his brother's gluten containing food), he went back to having painful stools with rectal bleeding. Honestly, it was so horrible seeing him in so much pain that I just decided to stick with the gluten free diet. I know he... -
ARCHIVED Recovery Time For 15 Month Old

I posted this in another section but got no responses despite many views so I'm posting it here. I suspect my 15 month old has Celiac like I do. After months of barely growing, falling off the chart in weight, sandy stools, frequent BM, and rectal bleeding, I decided to put him on a trial gluten free diet. I saw an improvement in his symptoms in just... -
ARCHIVED How Long For Recovery In Toddler?

I suspect my 15 month old has Celiac like I do. After months of barely growing, falling off the chart in weight, sandy stools, frequent BM, and rectal bleeding, I decided to put him on a trial gluten free diet. I saw an improvement in his symptoms in just a few days and over time, he started putting on a little weight so I've kept him gluten free (he's been... -
I really don't think it was a glutening incident. I almost always make my own food and when I don't I'm very careful about what I eat. I'm still not entirely sure if it's a dh rash or not. I may go to the derm if it doesn't go away. I'll look into the low iodine diet. Thanks.
-
I've been gluten free for over 5 years. Recently I've been getting what I think is a DH rash on my elbows. I used to get the same thing before going gluten-free but it cleared up...until now. My elbows have these tiny little red, terribly itchy bumps on them. I've had it for a couple of weeks. Could this be dh? Why would I be getting the rash now if I've...

ARCHIVED Corn Free/gluten Free Prenatal Vitamins?
shorebird posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I recently discovered corn is making me sick :/ I'm currently breastfeeding and trying for baby #2 and have noticed my prenatal vitamins contain corn starch (women's one a day). I've tried looking online for ones without any corn or corn derivatives and that are gluten-free. No luck other than these ones called Garden of Life Raw BUT they contain onion juice... -
Thanks. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who has experienced this. I used to not be sensitive until recently. I had some shredded cheese last week and ended up with the worst mood swings. Turns out it contained corn starch. Why they would put that in cheese I just don't understand. I definitely have to stay away from popcorn, corn starch, whole...

Thank you. I hate the thought of never eating corn again because I LOVE tortilla chips and tacos. Sometimes I feel like one day I'm going to wake up and find that I can't eat anything at all because everything makes me sick! Going corn free will be tough. I wonder what it is about gluten that can cause mood swings? It seems like gluten can wreak havoc on...

Well I know that my celiac is the source of my mood swings (and nothing else) because as soon as I eat any gluten or corn, my emotions go haywire. It just sucks that it happens, especially when I accidentally get "glutened" then I know I'm going to have a rough time.

I've been gluten-free for 5 years (dx'd celiac disease 2008) and around four or five months ago I noticed my digestive symptoms and other issues coming back. I have difficulty absorbing Vitamin B and there have been times when I had irritability related to it if I didn't take my vitamin each day. Well lately I've been having the worst mood swings. I can go...

ARCHIVED Hla-Dq Testing
shorebird replied to shorebird's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been thinking it might be the gluten-free oats since I started eating them for breakfast. It's been almost a week since I've had any but my symptoms haven't gone away yet. Yesterday I ate some corn tortilla chips (same ones I've always eaten) and I felt awful afterward. I had bad pain under my ribs in my back and stomach cramps. I'm thinking I could... -
ARCHIVED Hla-Dq Testing
shorebird replied to shorebird's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you. I don't feel as bad now asking. I've been trying to figure out what testing I should get done through Entero Labs since my symptoms are returning after years of being gluten-free. Anyone used them before? When I was dx'd with celiac disease, I only had an endoscopy/biopsies that showed patches of flattened villi in my small intestine. The GI... -

Ok, lol thanks that's what I figured. I felt stupid for asking but just wanted to make sure. #brainfart -

This may seem like a silly question, but I was wondering if I had genetic testing done for DQ2 and DQ8 if it would be affected by being gluten-free for 5 years? -
ARCHIVED How Do Pregnant Women Stick To This Diet?
shorebird replied to ValyntineM's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I know how you feel. When I was pregnant with my son, I got the worst cravings for Taco Bell burritos (how cruel is that?!). Luckily eating beans on a corn tortilla did the trick, but I did often crave foods that were definitely not gluten free. During the first trimester, everything made me sick or made me throw up so I pretty much lived off of banana smoothies... -
Are the Women's One A Day Prenatal Vitamins gluten free? The ingredients looked okay to me, but these days you can never really be sure!

ARCHIVED celiac disease Symptoms Coming Back
shorebird replied to shorebird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My baby is eating solids, but only fruits/veggies and just recently I started giving him gluten free rice cereal puffs so he can practice his pincer grasp. I've been careful to not give him any gluten since I don't want to increase his risk of developing celiac. He's 9.5 months now and I don't think I'll be giving him gluten until he's two or three so he...- 13 replies

ARCHIVED celiac disease Symptoms Coming Back
shorebird replied to shorebird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Today I ate some oatmeal (Bob's Red Mill) and my symptoms worsened. I noticed in my food diary the last time I ate oats I had a similar reaction. I'm wondering if that could be the culprit. I don't think I'll know for sure until I do some more sleuthing and cut oats out of my diet. Fingers crossed it's just the oats causing me problems.- 13 replies

ARCHIVED celiac disease Symptoms Coming Back
shorebird replied to shorebird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know I've seen on some products labeled "gluten free" that they can still contain minuscule amounts of gluten but I don't believe I've seen that on any gluten-free foods I'm currently eating. Are all certified gluten-free foods like that? Are any of them truly safe to eat? Sometimes I feel as if I should just resign myself to eating bowls of lettuce for...- 13 replies

ARCHIVED celiac disease Symptoms Coming Back
shorebird replied to shorebird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you for replying. I'd never really considered how pregnancy and birth could have triggered some kind of flare up. I always figured I was fine as long as I remained gluten-free, but the stress of pregnancy/birth does make sense in how it could cause that. The only strange thing is my symptoms didn't come back right after my baby was born. It wasn't until...- 13 replies
