  3. Sounds like u need to ask doctor for a celiac test, it may be more serious than a intolerance. I can relate to some of what you've described w/ my kids. Gluten-Free may be the answer. You have enough symptom for doctor to suspect, but too often celiac is overlooked.
  4. 7/8 is not too young to understand. My 6&7 yr old r gluten-free & completely understand what food is safe & what food is dangerous for them and that different people have different problems with food. May I suggest u arrive with your own snacks to share... maybe something they can relate to as "normal" like tortilla chips & salsa, ice cream...
  5. heartbroken over #bostonmarathon tragedy. News coverage once again overplaying the horror & underplaying the heroics.

  6. unthinkable. sending prayers to all in Boston. #prayforboston

  7. So many of us have heard doctors label our/our childrens celiac pre-diagnosis as a virus. Get him tested, demand it...if it is celiac, a gluten-free diet will improve his health but it may take some time and may require additional supplements for deficiencies. My advice, don't accept doctors dx if as a mom your gut tells you they are wrong. My 1yr old would...
  8. Rubio's response would be better if he had listened and responded to Obama's speech, not just GOP talking points.

  9. medical opinion may differ from mine, but i have no love for the doctors who screwed up my 22 month olds diagnosi,, if i followed their direction...he would have died. do not make your baby eat gluten if he is suffering. Why torture your little one with food that is,hurting him. Find a doc who will give u a diagnosis based on symptoms/bloodwork.
  10. Great questions. When grocery shopping...a lot of manufacturers are starting to label gluten-free. I alsood google products as I shop, many of their websites provide gluten info im faq or allergy section, if u cant find it, dont buy it! Someone else mentioned FIND ME GLUTEN FREE. its a must have app to learn what restaurants offer gluten-free menus &...
  11. you are not alone, it is very hard at first but i promise it gets easier. The one lesson I learned quickly...we were eating to much wheat/gluten-containing ingredients...bread, pizza, pasta was too much the center of our meal instead of a "side-item". Do yourself & your family a favor & focus on serving foods that are "normal" and naturally gluten...
  12. dairy is really hard for a damaged intestine to digest (google it for explanation why) so thats a easy, place to start. Trying it for a few days, cant hurt & usually the little ones show improved reaction quite rapidly so you'll know if its the cause. Apparently the same issue with soy, often dairy & soy reactions go hand in hand.
  13. My little guy was diagnosed with celiac at 22months & was also reacting to dairy & soy. I was told that this is very common and may be outgrown as the intestine repairs itself. I've been slowly reintroducing dairy and he seems to be tolerating it well in small amounts (yogurt w/ added probiotic, cheese, butter) - if he has too much (such as sneaking...
  14. it can take some time before you feel great, but i suspect you'll start feeling better a little at a time. You mentioned taking vitamins, one thing we learned is that deficiency of B vitamins is common & can be related to some of your symptoms, but can be really hard for the intestines to absorb..we found that B vitamins in disolvable tablet forms work...
  15. Oh April, what an ordeal. Doctors are not perfect & celiac diagnosis is for some reason a mystery. In Aug, my 22 month old had been sick for 2 months, in & out of the hospital...gas, bloating, vomitting, diarrhea, constipation, dehydration & was failing to thrive (out of nowhere). Peds GI specialist said did VIRUS not celiac, went dairy &...
  16. I'm no expert on test results, that part is complicated & best left to the doctors. However, what I can tell you is that I had no idea that I had issues until my 1 yr old was diagnosed. Our first assumption was that it stemmed from my husbands genetics (partially true) because he had years of undiagnosed problems. For me, I never would have guessed celiac...
  17. Sounds like you've figured out your own problem, like a huge number of people with gluten issues. Your reactions scream gluten intolerance or likely celiac. It is no secret that the medical community is far behind in diagnosis of celiac. It can be important to know if you are gluten-intolerant or have celiac disease...however you need to have gluten in your...
  18. completely understand, my husband has had this issue for years..it is frightening! He's been hospitalized, seem many gi docs, colonoscopies, etc. 5 yrs ago at 35yrs,old a GI doc said "you have the colon of a healthy 90 yr old man, come for another colonoscopy in 5 years". Ridiculous. His hemroid situation got worse & then he developed rectal prolapse...
